Branford Academy of Hair Cosmetology

I was a former student at Branford academy and the experience I endured there was mortifying. I wish I could give 0 stars but Unilocal won’t let me. If you’re looking for a good cosmetology school, please run screaming for the hills. The teachers when I was there were always making you feel like a nuisance for asking for help, the opposite of a good learning environment. The owner is incredibly unprofessional and was constantly gossiping about students with often false rumors (including myself). I would not have written this review if I didn’t feel that I could help future cosmetologists in their education by avoiding this school.

Great experience for color and blow dry. Students really deliver on first class services. Alexa did a great job and I would request her again. The school is neat and clean with none of the typical «salon drama». Great experience at a bargain price. I have been coming here for several years and have not been disappointed.

If you are looking to get your hair done right like a hair salon with out having to pay the prices like a hair salon. come and visit them the students will make you feel special and they do a great job always under the supervision of an instructor. And they also offer facials for a great price. Monday thru wenesday there’s a 25% off senior discount.

I never like being the person to give a negative review, but unfortunately, I’ve had more disappointing experiences here than good ones.
I’ve been coming here for about a year and a half now. I never fully know what I’m going to get. For the 1^st year, they would not follow my wishes of dying my hair blonde, which would be a conversion from me being light brown. While I can understand their worries that I might not like the outcome, it’s my hair, my decision, and they make you sign a waiver anyways, so they wouldn’t have an issue.
Most disappointing though, is you never really know what you’re going to get.
Twice not, I’ve gone there for a root retouch and last time, my hair came out multiple shades darker than the rest of my hair. This time, there is virtually no change in the color of my roots, meaning I’ll have to go back Monday to have them mess with my hair again.
Almost always, the staff are really friendly, and the students are even more so. I do realize that this is a learning environment, therefore the results may not be as great as the average salon, but to pay money for something worse than what you walked in with is never a comforting feeling.
I do hope they work out the kinks in the salon aspect of this school, because it really does have great potential.

I have always been extremely happy with the color retouches I have done here. Perfect color matching and application techniques guarantee a great job. However, the last couple of hair cuts I’ve had there have not been so great. I have medium length wavy hair cut into long layers to enhance the wave. Not too difficult, but the last cut I got was so uneven it was a joke. Now, I know these are students but why didn’t the instructor catch and correct the hacked off section on the right side of my head when she came by to check the work? It’s one thing not to hover, looking over the student’s shoulders every second, but I do think they need to pay more attention to what the student’s are up to. After I got home and really took a good look in the mirror, I was appalled. But, overall, you can get good work done for very reasonable prices. I will definitely continue to go there, but will keep an eagle eye on any haircutting going on. I’m also looking forward to getting a facial there soon, it’s cheap and looks like a divine experience.

They really do an amazing job. I’ve been coming here for 3 years now and while I don’t come every time for am cut, etc, I have never left disappointed. :)

If you have curly hair then Diana is the hairdresser to see! As owner of this salon and school, she makes every effort to listen to your wants and understand your haircare needs. She uses the most recent products and I am a fan of her bioionics! Her coloring abilities and friendly personality make her an ideal mentor to the many students she trains and customers she serves. I have been going to her salon for more than ten years where after meeting her I finally was able to grow out and style my curly locks! She doesn’t only cut curly hair, but if you were born with hair like mine you know finding a consistent stylist can be a challenge. She makes me feel and look beautiful– and my hair looks fabulous whether blown out straight or left natural. I recommend a visit with her specifically– she is one of the best!
