Rhonda, the hostess, could not have done more! The B & B sits along a river, the rooms have more amenities than you know what to do with, and we had a split of «bubbly» along with some chocolates waiting for us when we arrived (we were celebrating an anniversary and a birthday). The rooms and the home are beautifully furnished, and the breakfasts are truly creative and delightful. Rhonda is more than willing to assist you with your daily excursions, including a wonderful visit to the Robb Family Farm where one can taste the most fabulous maple syrup and learn a bit about the production – from the trees to the bottling/​canning.

I don’t even know where to begin! This place is just as good as it gets, if not better! It’s in a nice, cute little town (with a great farmer’s market to boot) and is surrounded by lush greenery and beautiful plants — even a lake in the back! I came here with my husband and my family as a getaway from the city, and all six of us are already planning a trip again. Rhonda is such a kind host who definitely takes care of you and genuinely cares about your stay and what’s going on in your lives as well. The homemade breakfast was out of this world (is there anything this woman can’t do?!), and my family stayed up late playing billiards, board games, and cards in the cozy living room. We even played croquet — twice! I only wish we had spent a week there instead of a few days. Rhonda even told us that she picks up her guests who travel there via train, so there isn’t even a need for a rental car. I literally have no complaints about this place — it’s perfect.
If you are looking for the cutest, coziest, well-​kept and welcoming bed and breakfast … look no further!

My wife and I were on a long and eventful vacation throughout New England, and our 2 night stop in Vermont was meant to be the time for pure and simple relaxation.
Rhonda, our Innkeeper, ensured that happened.
Let me just start with the food. You can tell from the preparation that goes into it, that Rhonda ACTUALLY cares about, and enjoys cooking for, her guests. Everything was delicious — BETTER than delicious! And of course, she had plenty of tea, coffee and juice to choose from to compliment her cooking.
The room we stayed in was immaculate. The pictures didn’t do it justice. So comfortable, so clean, so relaxing.
Rhonda was also an invaluable source of information on all things local — places to go, things to do, where to eat. She referred my wife to a day spa that was everything my wife had hoped for. She also referred us to a local restaurant — TJ Buckleys — that may have been one of the better dining experiences we’ve EVER had.
My wife and I strongly prefer staying at B&Bs as opposed to hotels, and Rhonda is a perfect example of why. She was attentive, but made sure we had our space. She was like our «vacation mom» — made sure we’d had plenty of good food to eat before we set out for the day. She was our own personal tour guide — ensuring we knew the best local places to go out to, and WHY they were the best.
Rhonda, thank you so much for making our stay as enjoyable as you did. You truly care about your guests, and it shows in the way you manage your lovely Inn.

Ronda (the inn keeper) is amazing! Not only is her property stunning but she is one of the sweetest people I’ve met in awhile. She was so attentive in helping us plan things to do as well as as set up reservations for us. HER BREAKFAST IS TOP NOTCH! This lady can cook! Her food was outstanding and she seemed to genuinely enjoy serving it.
If I can make it back to the area this would be my first choice to stay for sure.

You may notice the Select Registry sign as you enter Forty Putney, and it’s a well earned designation for this superb bed and breakfast. Rhonda and her staff work hard to to give you a completely satisfying experience. They do it with lots of energy, knowledge, enthusiasm and smiles. The rooms are spacious and quiet, the breakfasts are delicious and the location could not be better. Right behind the inn is a trail that leads down to the Hogle Wildlife Preserve. There is a hot tub, a charming gazebo, a wonderful back porch, a beautiful grand piano and a small pub. Rhonda goes out of her way to help you make good restaurant choices, and she did not miss on any of her suggestions. The rooms are comfortable and clean. There is a library of DVDs you can watch, there are cool trails you can hike on, kayak and canoe rentals are very close by. We attended the Marlboro Music Festival, and the Putney is just a 20 minute drive to there.

Stumbled on to Putney (thanks, Unilocal) as I was passing through Brattleboro. Great destination. Beautiful facilities, lovely hostess and great food. Definitely recommended.

Don’t miss breakfast! It’s yummy! Rhonda and her assistant run a great inn, with all the homey amenities you’d hope for in a bed and breakfast (and some I didn’t expect, like at least 6 – 8 flavors of loose-​leaf organic tea available in the main room at all hours… it made me feel as comfortable as if I was at home). The grounds are beautiful, and there’s a lovely building out back with a year-​round hot tub. I went snowshoeing with my travel companion right out the back door. Perfect base from which to explore downtown Brattleboro on a weekend. I highly recommend Forty Putney Road B&B!

Oh my… where to begin… Forty Putney Road Bed & Breakfast is one of the greatest places to spend time at. From the initial contact with the innkeeper, Rhonda to confirm my reservation and requests for champagne in the room and a small gift to be placed there, to check out and a follow up email everything was picture perfect.
The room was grand! The more I travel, the more I realize that I truly love the New England area of the country more than anywhere else. My room, the Garden Room was beautiful! It oozed with classic style and was well appointed. It was one of the most romantic settings that I can think of! From the fireplace to the 4 poster bed and the original fixtures in the bathroom, I was impressed all around. There were also some local complimentary local treats including maple popcorn and some local sodas; a great touch! The grounds were covered in snow and ice so I didn’t venture out too far but I did manage to go check out the hot tub and the gazebo in the back yard near the lake.
I can’t wait to visit again and when I do I hope that the weather will be warmer so that I can bring my bicycle with me and explore around some more!

Beautiful BNB with Gluten Free Breakfast available with advanced notice
I’ve been incredibly busy at work, so when a bit of free time came up, my wife and I made last minute travel plans. We love New England and had spent a day in Brattleboro 9 years ago, always meaning to go back. We booked a 3 night stay for the last weekend in April 2013 and headed up on a Friday afternoon. What should have been a 3.5 hour drive turned into a 6 hour ordeal on the highways of Connecticut — every possible route was hammered with traffic as the first nice weekend of the spring apparently invoked the same feelings in people to escape cabin fever and hit the road.
We pulled off the interstate, 3 hours into our trip, and called the innkeeper, Rhonda, to let her know we would be arriving very late. She assured us all would be well, she would leave a note for us at the door and our key in our room.
Upon finally arriving at Forty Putney Road we found that we were not the only late arrivals and Rhonda was showing another couple their room. She recognize we were tired and correctly surmised we were hungry, so she quickly showed us our room, we deposited our luggage and we headed downtown to grab dinner as it was 9pm.
The first amazing feature of the BNB is its proximity to downtown Brattleboro. We were able to leave our car at the inn and walk, day and night, to the shopping, dining and cultural district. The walk was about a mile in each direction. It’s close enough to be comfortable, yet outside the main business strip as to be quiet and peaceful. There’s a large, beautiful backyard overlooking The Meadows, a sunken field now looking more like a lake, and hiking trails lead off to the rivers and mountains right from the property.
The bedding is by Comphy Company and their comfort lives up to the name so much that we took advantage of the ability to order our own sets of sheets through the inn which we now enjoy at home.
There’s a Keurig with a variety of K-​Cups for your coffee and tea needs, along with an assortment of loose teas from Serenity Herbs and Teas, a local Brattleboro establishment. Breakfast each day was amazing — frittatas, compotes, french toast, eggs benedict — there was always a sweet course and a savory course, breakfast meats, coffee, juice. You get plenty of food but don’t feel overly stuffed.
Best of all, Rhonda caters to those with special dietary needs. We had alerted her several days prior to our arrival that my wife would need gluten free food and we were told it was not a problem. Well, it was not only not a problem, the food was amazing! Right down to the gluten free english muffin for the eggs benedict.
Finally, must mention a feature in Forty Putney Road that I’ve not seen in any other BNB — a pub! Yes, fans of craft beers will be pleased to know that on the first floor, across from the pool table, is a full pub with 4 local Vermont beers on tap, another several available by the bottle and a few different wines. The pub is open Thursdays through Sundays from 4pm to 7pm for guest to enjoy a beverage or two before heading out to dinner.
The only thing I would add to Forty Putney Rd to make it more perfect is either a hard cider or gluten free beer in the pub. Since the breakfasts will attract more guests with Celiac disease, would be nice to have some libations beyond wine in the pub.
We will definitely be back. Forty Putney Road is the best bed and breakfast at which we have ever stayed.

Our stay at 40 putney Road was arguably one of our bests B&B experiences ever. The property is absolutely gorgeous. It is nestled on a quite section of Putney road with a backyard that is only steps away from hiking trails and the lake. The landscaping is absolutely gorgeous with plenty of lounge chairs to soak up the afternoon sun. The interior of the inn is also exquisite. The common living room is lined with antique furniture and has a state of the art pool table, piano and fireplace. The room is so welcoming that you just want to kick back with a beer and read your favorite book. Speaking of Beer, the Inn has a small pub with local brews on tap (and it’s reasonably priced). They also have a very decent wine selection at the Inn. We stayed at the Rippley room which was a mixture of old school charm with modern ameneties. The bed was amazing with plenty of pillows. I don’t know what the sheets were made off but it felt very silky and pleasant to the skin. The room also had a «living room» and a fridge stocked with complimentary sodas as well as a few complimentary snacks. So basically the Inn is an amazing experience in and of itself but it’s the innkeeper that brings it all together. It felt that she really wanted to make our stay more than amazing. It really mattered to her that our expectations were surpassed at every turn. She gave us a tour of the Inn, spent at least thirty minutes discussing local restaurants with us and then made reservations for us at the restaurant of our choice. Who does that anymore? It was such a welcome surprise to have someone really take an interest in not just your stay, but in your vacation. So I am saving the best part for last: Breakfast. It was truly a breathtaking experience. I thought I have tasted everything there is too taste. I love food, I love cooking, and I love dinning. I try everything from hole in the wall places to Michelin rated joints. I thought I could not be surprised with food anymore. I was dead wrong. The breakfast was to die for. Fresh squeezed blueberry juice, crepes that are made just right, French toast with a mixture of banana and strawberry stuffing. I cannot do it justice by describing it. It has to be experienced. It is that good. I dare you to come up with a better breakfast. My only regret is that our stay was short… wish there was a bonus night included

My husband and I stayed here during one of our stops on our New England honeymoon, and out of all the hotels/B&Bs we stayed in, Forty Putney Road was our most absolute favorite.
We were greeted by the sweetest and most gracious host, Rhonda. She took us on a lovely tour of the house and property. This place has thought of everything … from a pool table and 24 hour Keurig service in the living room to popcorn in the sun room.
We went on a Tuesday night, and we were the only couple there. We were in the Ripley suite, which had a separate little sitting room, and I’d their biggest room available. The color scheme and quaint décor was tasteful and elegant. Comfy bed too. There were Vermont sodas in the fridge and a basket of snacks available for late night munchies.
We peeked in the other rooms and they were all equally as nice.
Outside was a beautifully manicured lawn, gazebo, numerous lounge chairs … everything you can think of to relax and enjoy yourself in your home away from home.
Located a 10 minute easy walk to downtown, this is the PERFECT place to stay.

My wife and I recently took a kid free weekend to get away from everything before the craziness of the holiday began.
I must first preface this by saying, that I am a self proclaimed «beer geek» and when we plan trip away I usually look for a good local craft beer scene to able to enjoy while away. For over a year I have wanted to visit the Forty Putney Bed and Breakfast. I had sometime ago stumbled onto Tim and Amy’s Beer Blog/​Vlog and fell in love with the idea of going to a bed and breakfast that has a pub and serves craft beers.
Our stay was Fantastic! When we arrived we met Amy and Rhonda (The soon to be new Inn Keeper) in the pub. While we checked in we were able to enjoy a pick of a local beer. Amy gave us a great tour of the common areas of the house and all of the amenities we would be able to enjoy while staying. (including the coffee/​tea station, were we could find extra silverware, toiletries we might have forgotten, the water cooler and microwave w popcorn for popping)
She then showed us to our room, the Garden View Room. It was just as advertised on the internet. The room and common areas were super clean (kid, dog & smoke FREE). My fear when staying in a bed and breakfast is either you feel like you are staying in someone’s home or you feel like you are staying in a sterile chain hotel. Forty Putney Rd is exactly how a B&B should feel. It felt private enough that you didn’t feel like you were interrupting someone’s life, but homey enough that you don’t feel like you are staying at «average hotel». And it’s «doily free» — didn’t feel like an old ladies house. The bed and sheet were amazingly comfortable.
The draw for us to this B&B were the fact that is was Beer centric and friendly. Just like all the reviews say, the Saturday night beer tasting is great. Doug has a professional’s knowledge of beer and brewing. It was a fun and informative event and what made it even better was that it brings you closer with the other guests in the inn. Most of us sat in the pub even after the tasting and enjoyed a few more beers and got to learn about each others lives, and played some pool in the parlor. I hope that this tradition continues at Forty Putney Road.
The breakfast was also not a let down. The two course meal with options is amazing. Amy is a great gourmet breakfasteer (if that is even a word). For us we loved the fact that the food was all local and organic. That this small business of a B&B doesn’t cut costs by getting pre-​made foods from Costco, but they source local ingredient from the local CoOp and farmers (local coffee and organic teas as well — from shops on Main St). It was a joy to be able to have Amy’s breakfast.
The Inn is just less than a 10 minute walk to downtown Brattleboro where there are some great shops and restaurants. We recommend checking out Whetstone Station for dinner, which is Amy and Tim’s next endeavor.
Some other quick tips about Forty Putney Rd B&B are: Make sure you play the Inn Bingo and turn your card in at checkout… Also check their facebook page for some great in room add on deals for your stay.
We will continue to keep our eye on this B&B as the new ownership takes over and hope that as little as possible changes and we make a return trim to Forty Putney Rd B&B soon.

This place was AMAZING! Top notch house, rooms, food and grounds. Whether your goal is to celebrate an anniversay or to find a quiet retreat, this is your place! There is a nature preserve behind this place that makes for the most amazing and romantic walk/​hike. There is a hottob area, jacuzzi tubs, cushy robes, fireplaces… I could go on and on. My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon here and hope to make it an anniversary stay each year. It was perfect!

My husband and I spent our first anniversary at Forty Putney, and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. We stayed for three nights, and every breakfast was spectacular – I don’t even like pancakes, and I loved Amy’s pancakes, with a slight orange flavor and the fluffiest consistency I have every experienced. My favorite though was the gruyère and zucchini quiche. Wow. Just, wow. I think we had the smallest room that was available (the Hummingbird), and it was just perfect. It was well lit, beautifully furnished, very clean, the bed was extremely comfortable, and there was plenty of space, even in the bathroom. We also got the «Romance package,» which involved some very silky red sheets, well placed (fake) candles, champagne, and one of the most beautiful rose bouquets I’ve ever received.
The grounds were gorgeous, with lots of quiet seating, nice ponds/​fountains, and a little gazebo overlooking the water. We took full advantage of the small pub in the inn, which has a few excellent Vermont beers on tap (and plenty of bottle and wine options), and played pool all evening. We also got to chat a little with Amy and Timberly, who are a very gracious hostesses. On another evening, we took a dip in the hot tub, which has its own cabin separate from the main building and a built-​in stereo, so you don’t have to worry about disturbing other guests. On yet another evening, we took a selection of the available board games to our room and had a quiet night in. (We had some take-​out from a great Thai restaurant, Thai Bamboo, that Amy recommended, which is just down the street and delivers certain nights – although apparently not on Tuesdays… but worth the walk anyway).
Aside from the lovely furnishings, phenomenal grounds, and great breakfasts at the inn, one of the best parts is its location. There are several good restaurants (we particularly liked the innkeepers’ new Whetstone Restaurant – we actually hit it up twice) and cute shops. We were also able to take a short walk around the water to visit Grafton Cheese one day (there’s a trail that starts from the garden behind the inn), and took advantage of the «Take a Hike package» another day to walk up the Wantastiquet State Natural Area, which is an intermediate-​ish hike (not too steep, but a lot of rocks), and has a beautiful clearing that’s great for enjoying the pre-​packed lunch and wine (in a cute backpack, that you get to keep!). We also quite enjoyed the Forty Putney bingo game that highlights some of the unique things about the area, including having a car stop for you just because you’re standing near a cross walk, and finding the hidden moose in your room! All in all, a wonderful visit – I hope to visit for another anniversary in the future!

I am writing from the comfort of the reclining love seat during trip #2 and it is all as great as it was last year. Exceptional place. Tim & Amy have also opened the Whetstone Restaurant in downtown Brattleboro, with an amazing roof deck looking out over the bridge into town and the Connecticut River – not surprisingly, also fantastic. Next year, we’ll be voting for them to be Brattleboro’s first mayor team.

My long, and difficult search for the perfect B & B in the VT, NH, ME area lead me right to Forty Putney Road. My boyfriend and I were celebrating an anniversary and decided to go all out and put our pennies together for a day and night in Brattleboro. And it was a memorable experience for the both of us.
This place is great. They have a small, quaint bar that serves local beer, as well as a pool table in their sitting room. We were ecstatic before we even reached our room. Once we got there, we were informed by Timberly and Doug (who were inn-​sitting) that there was only us and one other couple staying the night so we could pick any room we wanted. What we got was beyond our expectations. We stayed in the Ripley Suite with its spacious living room, gas fireplace, and dual reclining leather couch. It was so luxurious, clean, wonderful we barely left the room!
This place is great. The attention to detail is what sets this place apart from the rest. My favorite part of this B & B, without a doubt, was the gift basket awaiting your arrival in your room. It is full of local goodies such as Rex’s Outrageous Road Crew Crunch (our new favorite snack). Its that kind of service that makes you want to come back time and time again. Give them your business and it might just be the best romantic outing/​weekend getaway you ever have!

This place is the best, hippest place in town. I would not stay anywhere else, amazing breakfast and Amy and Tim are great to chat with. I would recommend over and over again. The room is really clean and they have really thought of everything, close to town and a wonderful yard to walk around with your coffee in the morning.

This is one of the nicest accommodations I’ve stayed in. The house is exquist in construction, and the rooms & common space are decorated in a style befitting a mansion. The rooms share no adjacent walls, and the doors are solid-​core timber, so this place has better sound isolation than most formal hotels. The food & beer experience were terrific, and the inn keepers have mastered the art of staying invisible & giving you maximum privacy & anonymity, unless you sit yourself down at Tim’s pub, order a pint, and start peppering him w/​questions, at which point he acquiesced. They maintain they own quarters in a separate wing, so you’re not walking through their living spaces as you come & go.
The rooms were clean & attractive & had everything you could ask for: wireless, fridge, TV/​DVD, radio w/​MP3 input, A/​C, closet/​hangars, iron, good window shades, complementary great snacks & sodas made locally.
There are lots of on-​site & nearby diversions: hot tub, cheese makers, bars & eateries downtown, trails, skiing.
Tim’s Saturday night beer tasting was a fun way to spend 1.5 hrs. We all know a lot about beer, right?, but Tim’s been studying it w/​a keener sense, is a great presenter, and still had lots of history to tell that I hadn’t heard before, and I learned a lot more than I’d expected. Amy clearly loves to cook, and the breakfasts were terrific & fast.

Forty Putney Road is quite probably the cutest B&B in VT and it’s run by the sweetest young innkeepers! Tim & Amy are a married 30-​something couple who quit their 9 – 5 jobs to pursue their dream of running an inn. Inspiring, right? They (and their friends Timberly and Doug, who were inn-​sitting on the first night of our arrival) were such friendly and accommodating hosts – we couldn’t have asked for better hospitality.
We stayed in the cozy Maple Room, located in the carriage house, and it had just the right touch of old school charm (gas fireplace, old school fan, leather armchair), plus luxury amenities (jacuzzi tub, mini fridge w/​complimentary snacks and drinks, plush bathrobes and flat screen TV with DVD player) that I wouldn’t have expected at a typical B&B.
As for breakfast – don’t sleep in because you won’t want to miss the 2-​course gourmet meal that Amy lovingly prepares each morning! During our stay, we enjoyed homemade granola and spiced apple yogurt parfait, spinach and goat cheese quiche, chocolate chip muffins, feta and tomato frittata, and blueberry bundt cakes… all delicious.
In addition, the inn offers a beer tasting featuring local brews every Saturday ($ 30/​couple for B&B guests). This is seriously a «must do» if you are in town or staying at the inn. It was the most fun we’ve ever had at any tasting and the local cheese & cracker selection was outstanding. There is also a gorgeous pool table in the main house, which the boyfriend took advantage of. WiFi access throughout the inn was really convenient as well. We also appreciated the fact that the inn had a library of books and DVDs available for borrowing in case guests need another source of recreation.
Last but not least, we loved being within a 10-​minute walk from downtown Brattleboro. I honestly cannot think of one thing that would’ve made our stay more enjoyable. Five stars hands down!

We got married in Brattleboro this past weekend, and stayed here for three nights. It was absolutely perfect. You couldn’t ask for better hosts than Tim and Amy, the young couple that owns the house. Tim runs the small pub downstairs and is some kind of expert on microbrewed beer. Amy makes the breakfasts each day, and they are outstanding! In just three days, we had amaretto and almond waffles, walnut cranberry muffins, blueberry and banana parfaits, asparagus wrapped in bacon with cheese sauce, and more that I can’t even remember! And they’re both willing to help you out with whatever you need.
It’s within a 5 minute walk of downtown, so it’s close, but far enough to be peaceful and quiet. In the backyard there is a flower garden and a Japanese maple tree which is in the process of being ranked as one of the largest in the northeast. We stayed in Room 4, and it was beautiful. The perfect mix of antique and modern furnishings. I really wish I could just live there.
I don’t know much about any other places to stay in Brattleboro, but I’d be willing to bet that this is the best. I really do look forward to returning one day.
