Terrible Customer service. Spoke to Glen Johnson an associate manager in consumer support and he could car less about customer satisfaction. The only call I received from my advertisement was a scammer trying to send me money via pay pal.

Do NOT waste your time or money on AutoTrader.
I paid over $ 100 for a feature ad to sell my 2012 BMW. I received ZERO genuine calls on the car. I did get texts from 4 scammers and multiple calls from dealers trying to low-​ball the price. But, not one single genuine buyer lead. (I know this because AutoTrader was the only ad where I put my phone number out there.
I sold the car from a FREE Craigslist ad.

I listed my car online yesterday for sale. The process was so easy and look up I found my value on Kelly Blue book online which offered a cash offer from dealerships but for substantially less.
My ad will run for 4 weeks and costs $ 25.00. Being the the original owner with low freeway miles I feel confident it will sell quickly.
So far I’ve received half a dozen calls and texts the first day.

Just like practically everyone else on here, my experience with Autotrader was useless. Not one person interested in my car, which was in great shape and priced extremely low by anyones standards. I called them to ask what I can do, they only offered to upgrade my ad for more $$, which I declined. When I asked if they could give me the upgraded level for a day or two for free to try, they said no. Trying
was a waste of my time and money. Will never use again!

Horrible service, no response on the ad. I listed a car simultaneously on Ebay, Craigslist, and Autotrader. Paid the $ 50 fee.
ZERO Response from autotrader. Lots of response on Ebay, Craigslist. Their support team e-​mailed me asking me how things were. Horrible I responded. Just give me a credit so I can sell another car since this one had no response.
Nothing back from their support team, they just kept e-​mailing me the same e-​mail template.
Autotrader is dead they’ll need to get shut down soon since they have zero traffic and they are poorly run…

Don’t waste your time listing on their website. I got nothing but scammers calling me and they never told me about their limited time money back guarantee. They were also very rude and didn’t provide good customer service at all. I would recommend using other sites such as Craigslist and avoid this site at all costs.

Bottom line is few, if any, legitimate buyers appear to sue this site.
I’m guessing the target demographic for
are sellers (naïve suckers like us) and scammers, since that appears to be all that will contact you.
I had multiple calls from people who barely spoke English, were located a 1,000+ miles away and wanted to pay «cash» for my car.
The catch? They all try very, very hard to get you send «more pictures» of the car.
I believe they are phising fro your private number/​email address or perhaps they have other uses fort he pictures.
Regardless, do not waste your time with this «service».

This business (ONLINE AUTOTRADER) should be shut down and never be allowed to accept another ad from anyone. This was without a doubt one of the least useful sources and websites I’ve ever used.
Tried selling my near-​new VW… Nothing but crap spam, days for new pics to be uploaded and text to be edited, didn’t get my 1^st ad up for several days after it was supposed to, did ZERO to help me sell my car. Their «service» and product just massively sucks and I would NEVER use or recommend them again.
Spam ‘buyers’, crappy service, clunky website – just terrible. Is that enough for ya or would you like to hear some more?

I’ve used AutoTrader in the past to sell vehicles, usually only springing for the basic listing (this was about 10 years ago). In general the ads did pretty well and my car sold in a reasonable amount of time. This time. I decided to try the Premium listing at a hundred bucks and didn’t have the same luck as before. I thought I was covered with the money back guarantee, but that was a complete sham. I guess my biggest mistake in securing my money back, was placing my car on craigslist. Because once on CL it sold in less than one week and created more buzz than 60 days on AutoTrader. Do yourself a favor and use CL for free. Until AutoTrader realizes that their way of posting an ad is highly outdated, it will be of little to no service to anyone. If you do have to use them for anything, I recommend the basic ad. Do not get sucked into all of the other BS they try and sell you. It just does not work!

All the money we have wasted on auto trader over the years trying to sell cars. None of the 4 vehicles we tried on autotrader had even one call from the ad. Save your money! Put signs on your car, list for free on craigslist and show vehicle at local police station for your safety.

i guess i am on the long list of many that have the same opinion of the auto trader now. i ran a 79.00 add was convinced to upgrade to a vip add for 204.00. the vip ran and the vehicle never sold so they did refund the money. the problem was i was never informed that if i did this add i would loose my regular 79.00 if the vip was refunded. their answer is its in the fine print on an email. the lady in customer service karen x 72 061 was not helpful and didnt care at all. just would say to bad. my problem is they were very quick to take my money and never once did they verbally advise that i would loose my original add.

in the last 3 months to sell 2 cars. My experience was awful.
For one ad, I paid $ 125, an extra $ 25 to include an Autocheck report. They never got it working. I called and was told they would refund the cost. They never did, and now are disputing my case with American Express. Very poor business practice.
The other ad I spent $ 100.
In both cases, I used 2 separate phone numbers to compare traffic and sales vs. a FREE Craigslist ad.
For both cars, I had far more traffic and ultimately sold to a buyer who came through Craigslist.
For the following reasons, I personally will not ever list a car for sale with them again:
— More traffic and sales for free with Craigslist
— Better formatting and more pictures with free Craigslist
— Lack of integrity to properly refund the $ 25 extra I paid for services never delivered

Buyer be aware! The car selling service advertised here is a rip off. They give you an almost fraudulent appraisal that is suppose to be sent to a dealer. The 1^st dealer stated they did not participate. The 2^nd dealer offered me $ 1800 under the so called appraisal by auto trader. The dealer said the car had more miles than was sent in. Really, the millage they had from my entry was 44,000 and by the time I drove to the dealer it was 44,008. Eight miles? $ 1800. This selling service is a rip off and only for desperate sellers.

Auto trader has become absolute garbage, i just listed my car for sale here 2 days ago & i have gotten over 20 FAKE TEXTS, Auto trader offers a privacy shield but you have to pay an extra $ 15, that is BS, i’ve listed cars on Craigslist, Ebay,
with my phone number and NEVER had this issue!
I just called their customer service & a lazy sounding good for nothing person answered and didn’t have any idea how to help or what to do, wanted to give me some stupid scripted answers.
Save your self the $ and just list your car on craigslist, the days of Auto Trader are OVER!

Terrible customer service, will not use again.
I was getting errors on the listing and contacted them several times while the ad ran. They NEVER returned messages or called. Would definitely not recommend.

They have a very restrictive policy which requires you to fill out a PHYSICAL form mail into them within 20 days of the 90 day expiration of your ad.
IF this form does not arrive at their offices within the 20 day window — you are out of luck.
I got exactly 2 email responses in 3 months! I dropped the price 4 times and was very competitive with my pricing.
AUTOTRADER is a waste of time IF you’re trying to sell your vehicle.

Most autodealers, when a customer wants to evalute their trade-​in, refer the customers to their link to Autotrader. Why? Because Autotrader gives low ball, significanly below wholesale value for the trade. So, the car dealers can buy your car at a fire sale price. Be aware of this trick and avoid Autotrader at all cost.

in general. I think they have good customer service which I would give them a 5 star, but I gave them a 2 star since I was not able to sell my car thru them. I have received 4X the calls on craiglist than I have from autotrader which charged me $ 50 for my ad. craiglist is way more effective medium of adversiting and it is free. You cannot beat that.
