My first meal in Breckenridge… unforgettable but NOT in a good way! After getting up at sunrise and climbing up Quandary Peak, eight of us made our way through town to find a place to eat with outdoor seating. We stumbled upon Horseshoe II Restaurant and it looked nice inside, with a big wooden staircase and mezzanine seating above. So we decided to give their outdoor patio a try. We wanted something light as we had been eating power bars all morning so most of us just ordered salads. Specifically, about half of us got the Greek Salad(mixed greens, olives, feta cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes and onions and a house Greek vinaigrette). I ordered mine with no cucumbers or onions and with the dressing on the side. We didn’t have to wait too long for our food as the waiter promptly brought them out. However, when he was passing them out, he referred to me as ‘the picky one’. I know I’m particular, but I’d hardly call asking for no onions/cucumbers and dressing on the side as ‘picky’ — it’s pretty typical… not to mention a bit inappropriate for a server to call a customer ‘picky’. On top of that, all the salads arrived without dressing and only I had some on the side. Hmmm… Finally, we started eating. It only took a couple bitefuls to notice this large black clump of rotten lettuce in my salad. It was so gross! It was sloppy and simply repulsive. When the waiter came around, I simply said«I’m sorry but I’m just going to have to continue to be ‘picky’. This salad is disgusting — the lettuce is rotten.» He took it back and fairly promptly brought a new one out. Although he remembered the«no onions, cucumbers and dressing on the side», the lettuce was still far from fresh. There wasn’t quite the same big clump in there but throughout it there were rotten leaves. Everyone else who ordered salads experienced the same thing — now that I think about it, I wish we refused to pay as none of us finished. The three people who ordered sandwiches said they were tasty so perhaps it’s simply not a salad place. But the rude server and the fact that they would serve rotten lettuce really put a damper on the whole meal. I just cannot believe a restaurant would be THAT cheap! In any supermarket you can buy a bag of mixed greens for 3 – 4 bucks… my salad used maybe a third of that bag’s worth of greens and they charged me $ 6.95 for it. Without considering the fact that they probably buy in bulk and pay far less than the 3 bucks I pay, they are already making at least a 400% profit per salad(I’m over-guesstimating as to how much the 2 slices tomato, 5 olives, feta cheese and dressing cost them). Some people just have NO shame…
