Mimi’s Fried Pies & Homemade Ice Cream

This was a surprising find for us, even though we’re universal lovers of comfort food — the fried pie concept is a really unique take on all the comfort favorites. You would think this food would be leaden, but the light dough and peanut oil deep fry make for a light and flaky taste.
The name implies that it’s just desserts, but it’s a great spot for lunch, too. We liked the Louisianna meat pie — OK if you like a hint of cayenne pepper, but the chicken pot pie and shepard’s pie were heavenly. For a little extra decadence (maybe to share among a few friends), order the mac & cheese pie WITH bacon.
For dessert, we skipped the ice cream because it was snowing outside, but we can recommend the cherry pie, and they’ll also make combo’s like the apple & pecan mixed filling — that was just divine.

AMAZING! These fried pies are the most delicious treats I’ve had in a long time. We happened by while strolling through Breckenridge, and we fell into paradise. Not only were the pies sublime, the owner and staff at the tiny establishment served us promptly, cheerfully, and went above and beyond. They suggested we sit out back by the river, and told us not to pay until we had eaten. That level of trust and respect is unheard of.
We had the mac-​n-​cheese pie, the coconut crème, and the cherry. All amazing. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. If you’re driving past Breck on I-​70, it’s well worth the detour to come here. Strangely, the crêpe restaurant had a line out the door, while Mimi’s, a far superior experience, was quiet. I wanted to go tell all those people in line to head up the block to Mimi’s!

Seating is fairly limited, parking on main street is hard (walk across the bridge from lot F) but seriously, you MUST go here. If you’re thinking of the little thing from McDonalds, no; this is a good-​sized half-​circle of delicious filling. You’ll want to get it a la mode, the ice cream is very good.

LOVE THIS PLACE. We are regulars to Breck but had not visited in a few years. Crepes and cookies are always high on our list but Mimi’s has replaced these cravings by a long shot. During a one-​week period, I ordered 10 pies (some for me, some for our group) and a ton of ice cream cones.
The fried pies are as good as they get. The ice cream is made in Denver and is among the best around. The staff is very, very nice and they will stay open as long as customers are waiting (they close at 9:00 pm).
Personal favorites are the peach pie and blackberry/​lemon.

My fiancé & I went to Mimi’s on a fluke. We were disenchanted but expecting resort town prices for food. Sean noticed Mimi’s Fried Pies first. We walked in and was immediately welcomed by some of the best servers. I had overheard the owner telling another customer that she couldn’t of asked for better help& that she wished the girls that worked there were her daughters. That made me happy. All too often, there’s bad service, even if the food is good.
Well — Mimi’s ROCKS! Sean & I ordered the Sloppy Joe (which was a recommendation by one of the best employees there) and a Louisiana Meat Pie. We were looking for a savory, filling meal. We got what we wanted. The pastry is made of buttermilk & it so so delicate and delicious! We also went back 2x that day for ice cream. We walked off most of the calories, & we felt like we not only got a great deal, but we made new friends in Breckenridge. We are impressed with Mimi’s & think that their business is an asset to the Breckenridge experience. The service is amazing! Each time we went, the experience was consistent — it was excellent.
I look forward to recommending Mimi’s to out-​of-​town guests and our local friends.

I am a semi-​local and this place has the best icecream in town – hands down! Line out the door tonight at 9pm. Huge portions. Add to that a friendly staff. We come here every week, at least once. I haven’t tried the fried pies, but from all the awesome reviews here, I have put it on my list to try.

LOVE this place! The ice cream is unbelievably smooth and flavorful. The sundaes are loaded with toppings and whipped cream. And then there are the pies. I haven’t had one yet that wasn’t fantastic. Don’t be discouraged by the long line as it moves pretty quickly. And if there is no indoor seating you can go out the back to a lovely patio. Unless you’re really hungry, opt for the kid’s scoop. The single scoop is more like a double at other places. I agree with others that it’s pricey, but it’s handmade ice cream and it’s Breckenridge where everything is pricey. If you’re really nice to the counter people they might even give you a coupon for a free scoop on your next visit!

This place is definitely «as good as it gets» when it comes to fried pies. WOW. The pastry melts in your mouth and the fillings… WOW, so good! We tried the Louisiana meat pie after reading previous Unilocal reviews and also decided to dive into their Bananas Foster fried pie. Both were absolutely delicious. Can’t wait to come back and grab another pie the next time we are in town!

I don’t like ice cream. The sea salt butterscotch was almost enough to make me change my mind.
Any place that serves Natchitoches meat pies is LEGIT.

Best entrée under $ 10 in Breckenridge.
So I went back for my second trip and finally had a Louisiana Meat Pie, and OMG… I immediately got homesick and filled with regret that I didn’t bring my family by Mimi’s while they were visiting.
I can officially say, the Mimi’s Louisiana Meat Pie is the best entrée under $ 10 in Breckenridge. It may be the best entrée in town regardless of price.
I picked up a meat pie to go, and hit Main St., only to get stares from people wondering WTH is that wonderful smell. I thought one guy was going to steal my meal.
If you haven’t had a meat pie, then this should be your first. If you have had a mediocre meat pie in Natchitoches, LA, then you should let Mimi’s set the record straight. The way the finely diced peppers, light onions, and spiced meat blends together is amazing, and then there is the to die for pastry shell that holds this little piece of heaven together.
OMG. I’m going back tomorrow.

So my buddy and I are walking down Main St. talking about how our clothes don’t fit us when we were 35 when out of the blue he says, «fried pies!» So we went in.
Remember the apple and cherry pies McDonald’s used to sell you for $ 1? Yeah, these are like them, except they don’t come to the restaurant pre-​frozen, you can combine fillings, they’re way bigger, and you can watch them actually roll the dough and add the fillings. They’ve got both savory and sweet options as well as breakfast pies. And, we were told «people don’t drink on Sundays, but if you get a meat pie, your first PBR is 1.99 and .99 cents after that.» Well, we didn’t drink cause we were on our way to a bar to drink, but that’s pretty damn cool in my book.
The pies and filling are truly delicious, they’re bigger than the pies you got at McD’s, and the people there are hella nice.
As others have mentioned, they also have ice creams in the joint that looked tasty, but it was 10:30 in the morning, so dessert fried pie was enough of a second breakfast.

Yay! A fix for someone who misses proper Southern cooking. Had the «Louisiana Meat Pie». I immediately recognized the flavors of sauteed steak, pork, and, of course, garlic. Tasted like the «holy trinity» of Louisiana cooking-​onions, celery, and peppers– was in there too. What a winner– the richness of the filling complemented by the fluffiness of the «pie crust». Maybe I shouldn’t say crust. Tasted more like the cousin of a good beignet.
From there, on to the desserts: blackberry and apricot pies. Both had plenty of intensely flavored, jammy fruit. The apricot is particularly rich. Wow!
In short: unique offerings, intensely flavorful, super nice people. An easy «5».
That reminds me– I took home a pecan one. Excuse me while I go try that.
…Mmm, I’m back. Not too sweet, complex flavors of pecan and caramel, wrapped in the fluffy yet flaky crust. Oh yes!

Such yummy homemade ice cream! You can try as many flavors as you would like before deciding on one! You can even mix and match flavors to equal one scoop! I would highly recommend!
