I had brought a pair of mirrors in on a Monday morning to get them painted to match my vehicle. Was quoted a fair price and left them to be done. The lady at the desk, who was very polite (my only real positive experience here), told me that they would be done in a day or two. By Thursday, I hadn’t heard anything, so I called to see how they were doing and to see when they’d be done. The person I spoke to on the phone then told me that they hadn’t even started yet, and that their paint guy would probably get to them «sometime next week or so». Wow, okay. I then went to go pick up the mirrors so I could get them done elsewhere. They clearly didn’t value the business I intended to give to them. I get it– it’s only a pair of mirrors, right? Maybe so, but if they weren’t even going to be done at the date they told me, a phone call would have been the appropriate thing to do in the least. It’s a shame too, as I have a lot of other little fixes and things I’d like for a local body shop to take care of, but one bad experience is all it took to make me look elsewhere.

I was originally told it would take 10 days, then later 14. i was told the car was ready and I went to pick up my Prius after hours only to find they had not put the floor of the hatchback area back together and more importantly, had not adjusted the latch. The hatch would creak loudly when opened and took 3 or 4 slams to shut it. How anyone would think this was OK is beyond me. So I was left writing a note in the pouring rain and dark and leaving my car for another day. I might add that this place was pretty much forced on me by GEICO and was way out of my way to get to. I would never go back there and would strongly recommend others avoid it.

UPDATE
Since writing this, Geico (who suggested this repair shop) suggested that I go elsewhere to have the damage evaluated. The new place was very surprised that Uptown did this work because normally they are good.
Apparently not in this case. The new shop found so many problems — they had to tear the front end of my NEW car apart to fix what Uptown had done. I’m sticking to my description of «shoddy» and adding «sh!##y» to the mix.

This was my first experience dealing with insurance and a body shop but these folks made it painless as possible. They handled it all and everyone there was always professional and courteous. This is the kind of customer service we all crave. The work was beautiful as well. I highly recommend.
