One of the registers at the self-​check line was not working. The clerk did not tell me that as I stood at the register waiting to get help. If the register was not working, the clerk should have told me not to step up to that particular register. I tried to get his attention. Maybe FoodMax needs to have out-​of-​order signs available for their clerks to use. Left as quickly as I came in.

I like going to food max when I need to get meat not found at other grocery chains. The store is always clean and well stocked! The staff is always helpful and friendly! Prices are always very good!

I like shopping at this Food Maxx store because of their good prices especially for fruits and vegetables.
A man working at the self-​check lines was not friendly. We messed up when we were trying to scan our groceries at self checkout. He was getting annoyed and said something to us. Maybe because it was busy that day.

This place is an absolute JOKE!
Sorry, but they do NOT have «the lowest prices in town,» as they claim. But as an over-​kill, the cashiers are REQUIRED to «circle in red» the amount saved compared to Safeway’s prices.
WinCo has them seriously beat on more items that I care to count… sometimes by as little as 5 — 10 cents, but most typically by SUBSTANTIALLY more, meaning a dollar or two.
The employees who work there live in fear of the dreaded «secret shoppers» who come around frequently to ensure that they’re asking everyone «if the need stamps or ice» and if they don’t ask, they could be written-​up or even FIRED. And if the cashier’s fail to CIRCLE IN RED THE AMOUNT customer saved by shopping there instead of Safeway, that’s also grounds to be written-​up or fired.
I’ve been told by a couple of employees that few, if any of the employees, like working there, but they can’t afford to lose their jobs, even though they’re low-​paying positions. They feel STUCK and with no other options.

Great prices most items. Don’t set too much confidence in what the label states as supermarket price. Its too high a majority of the time. Their pet food is too much. You can find it for less at Safeway on sale, usually every other week. I have never waited too long in line. Which is pretty good considering you bag your own groceries. A draw back of bagging your own is that when you have alot on the counter, you end up walking back and forth from the gas register back to the bagging area. Its good exercise. Although WinCo might win for lower prices, FoodMaxx wins for being a bit less ghetto. I’m not afraid to go to FoodMaxx at night like I am with WinCo. Overall, a good all around grocery store that lets you leave with some change in your pocket.

In Brentwood there’s some expensive grocery stores: Raley’s, Safeway, Target, and Fresh & Easy (which says on its website it’s cheap but in the store it is expensive). Trader Joe’s is midrange between cheap and expensive. I have never been to the WinCo foods. For the inexpensive stores there’s Walmart (out of the way and lacking on grocery items) and Foodmaxx. The Foodmaxx is cheaper than Walmart on grocery items (on non-​grocery they are higher). Foodmaxx also has better quality food items than Walmart at these lower prices, which is a plus. This store is a good Foodmaxx because they usually keep the lines short. Some Foodmaxx stores and about every Walmart store just lets the lines pile up like it’s the DMV.
I wouldn’t give 5 stars because they play irritating music in the store (most stores do). This makes my time there unpleasant. They need to turn it off.

Just came in here on Halloween, looking for cheap candy, and it was insanely overpriced. More expensive than at Safeway & CVS! Then I figured I’d pick up a couple other things while I was there. And green beans were fifty cents MORE per lb than at Safeway also. And their pineapples were more expensive too… I know SOME things are cheaper here, but definitely not everything. At least their energy drinks are cheaper here for sure. They’re selling Rockstars for 5/​$ 5.00, which Safeway has never sold for that cheap.
Beware of what you’re buying here… You can’t trust everything just because it’s a discount store.

impressive discount grocery store. 10 times better than wal mart. wide aisles, prices clearly visible. super large produce dept. meh wine dept but still, great prices for every day wine. very helpful staff. i found 99% of everything i needed for a months groceries. BYOB (bags) and bag your groceries.

If your only concern is low prices, this may be the store for you. The last time I was in the store they did have a good selection of Mexican food items. What kind of bargain is it when the expiration date is past. The quality of merchandise is questionable. The produce is ok, but I would say it is average, nothing spectacular. Customer service is poor. I have visited this store a couple of times, and won’t go back. I can find everything I want elsewhere. If you watch what you buy the prices are the same or can be beat.

Good, clean store. Best price for ice around. $ 1.50 for a small and $ 2.75 for a 20lb. Can’t beat it.

I hate this place and I hate that I have to shop here all the time because it’s around the corner from where I live and it’s reasonably cheap.
Let me state the cons first since it’s that type of review:
x Shitty customer service. Look, it’s a grocery store I know you’re not going to be super happy with a bright smile on your face for every customer you have to greet. but if they manage to do that at every other grocery store, it can’t be that hard for you to do. I’ve been there countless times where the people working there were rude, yelling to each other, yelling at each other, having conversations with each other at the register while holding the line up, talking crap about other employees, making rude comments about the people in line, make inappropriate comments to the people in line, rolling their eyes at customers who weren’t being rude, and giving really mean looks to people walking into the store.
x Selling expired products. PLEASE check your cans and check all your products because I cannot tell you the amount of times I have purchased expired products from that store. I had a major allergic reaction to expired peanut butter that was 3 months old and STILL being sold at that store. That’s inexcusable and a huge health risk.
x Not restocking all of their products with crates of that product next to it waiting to be stocked. I mean… are y’all really that lazy?
The one pro to this place are the very few employees that I hope and pray are working when I shop there. I can think of 3 employees who even when you can tell they’ve had a long day, are still friendly, helpful and accommodating. Funnily enough, they all wear glasses so they should be easy to spot! You need help, they’re there for you and that is great.

Food maxx is great but they need a deli. I don’t go there anymore cause I can’t get fresh deli meat.

The prices are good (thought I beg to differ with their claim of being the lowest in town since I think winco beats them on most items but winco is farther and yucky-​er) and their cleaner than the other low prices stores but I feel like I buy expired/​almost-​expired stuff all the time and that really bugs me. never before have I felt the need to check the dates on everything (I even got expired canned good and those have a very long shelf life) this hassle send me straight to safeway pretty often despite the big loss in savings.

A pretty decent sized FoodMaxx. Everything is usually fresh and not about to expire the next day. They don’t have as many choices as other grocery stores but you get an awesome price for what you buy.
The employees can be very helpful when you need to find something but not the most friendly.

The produce is by far the best in Brentwood. Good selection and reliably fresh.
Oh yeah, the prices are good too. But if I shop Safeway sales, Safeway brands, and coupons, I can actually do as well, or even better, overall at Safeway.
The selection is not great on grocery items at FoodMaxx. But if you use name brands, this is your place.
For me, the produce is the biggest reason I shop here. The folks are really nice and helpful also.

They’re right. They are the lowest prices in town. The produce I tried was much better than I thought it would be. Surprisingly good! The Sunnyside brand is the «store brand» here. Tried several types of food and seemed pretty good except for the block cheese. Maybe the sharp cheddar is beddar than the medium? I’ll have to swing by sometime and check that out.
Everything seems like the other chains, but for less. The wine selection is very small and they don’t carry «everything» that I like. I like being able to buy half dozen eggs sometimes, but can’t here. They don’t carry Kraft Bagelfuls, which are better than they sound. Other than these small items, FoodMaxx will maximize shopping power… for reals!

This has to be one of the most friendliest grocery stores in the area. They greet you and really make you feel appreciated.
They have a huge produce section which, for most of the year has a good selection. Nothing too exotic so if you are looking for starfruit or other exotics, you won’t find it but you will find a good selection of good, everyday produce. You will also find a very friendly produce man that will greet you and answer any question that you may have with a smile.
The store is clean, well lit and with lots of people on the floor to help you if you can’t find a particular item.
Cashiers are VERY sweet and some of them will chat with you as if you had been their friend for years.
I go out of my way, by several miles to shop here because of the service I get.

I wish we had a Food Maxx closer to my house. I stopped by here on the way home from my parents’ house since my mom is always raving about how low their prices are. And it’s true. They have low, low prices on the majority of their stuff. I usually remember how much I pay for stuff at other stores, so on the stuff that isn’t low priced, I’ll skip and buy elsewhere. The produce is fresh and lasts way longer than Safeway’s produce does. Just make sure to check the code dates on the items before you buy.

Going to a FoodMaxx helps you to appreciate all the non-​warehouse inspired supermarkets. The FoodMaxx in Brentwood is interesting. A mixture of the classes: those looking for the savings, and those who park their BMW’s in front of red curbs.
This place has most everything you could want when going to a cheap grocery store like 8lb buckets of macaroni, mass-​produced baked goods, a vast array of Mexican sodas, and your short-​tempered drug-​addicts.
Also they have those really inconvenient self-​checkouts, and the checkers face not at you but away from you… which is weird. Checkout is kinda dehumanizing there. Thanks Mass Consumerism!
