History

Established in 2001.

Locally owned and operated, Sweeney’s is located in the oldest commercial building in the country. The historic 1876 building started as a saloon, and today, it is an upscale, newly renovated, exceptional Italian restaurant that has been in business for 12 years.

Highly recommend trying this place.
Been here 2 times now and had great food both times. Looking forward to the next time we go back. Recently my wife and I ordered the bacon wrapped fillet from specials menu and it was one of the best steaks we have ever had at a restaurant. Also, the alcoholic beverages are very good too.

The food was actually pretty good. From the beginning our server was a negative. Dour would be the word. We both ordered early bird specials which came with a soup or salad. Judit asked for a wedge salad and this is where the problem started. He never mentioned that that did not qualify as the salad nor did he point out that Judit could still have a soup. So when the tab arrived I was surprised to see the salad as an extra and when I questioned it the waiter, Eric, was totally unapologetic and absolutely refused to make an adjustment. I asked to talk to a manager and this is where the one star comes from. Normally I will not downgrade an establishment because of one problem with a server but there was no manager on site. Now I know that the manager cannot be there all the time — that is why there are assistant managers. You just do not leave the inmates to run the asylum. It ended up my being told never to come back as if I ever would.
One thing that hit me: the waiter said that if he took the salad off my tab he would have to pay for it. If that is true then the employer is breaking the law. Docking wages for employee error is strictly illegal.
I wanted to talk to management before posting this but while they have a website there is no contact information.

First time here since the renovation. Four of us on a Wed. about 6:30. Only a few diners so very quiet and peaceful. Two orders of veal scallopini, one spaghetti and meatballs, one scallops dore on the special. Three salads and one menestrone soup to start. Everything pronounced very good. Celebrating two birthdays, so received complimentary chocolate cake for all. Service was good, price was right. I never go with five stars on one visit, but will probably be there after a few more times. u

Very impressed with the food. It’s not often i say that either. I came here just randomly while in brentwood looking for a steak. Boy did i get one! It was low key and very nice/​not cheep or cheesy and NOT an obnoxious atmosphere, i loved it. Mature adult setting, acceptable service. I will definitely be returning soon.

My honey an I had thee best time here at this restaurant. We both ordered rib eye steaks an baked potatoes. We both had a mixed drink. Our salads were very yummy and the bread, garlic, olive oil and balsamic vinegar mixed together was beyond great. I also ordered a cup of clam chowder which was really good it didn’t require any salt or pepper. The wait staff was efficient and nice. I didn’t feel out of place even though this was our first time here, they went out of their way to make us feel at home and comfortable. When me and the hubby have date night again we will most definitely come back.

I had the house steak early dinner special. Clam chowder was the best I’ve had in a long time! Very clean place. Customer service was just slightly on the slower side at one point. Food was great. Bread was VERY fresh. Could have sworn the early dinner special said it came with dessert, but we didn’t receive that. I didn’t ask about it because we were already full, but just found it odd. Overall, great experience.

I have lived here for 18 years and have never been to Sweeney’s. I know it’s been recently renovated (and maybe a new owner/​management? Not sure), and it is beautiful. My husband and 2 children took my mom here who was visiting from Atlanta for the holidays.
Cannot say enough about the service and food. It was exceptional! After having had a horrible meal at Cap’s down the road a few days earlier (don’t waste your money or time there), this restored my faith in unique restaurants in sweet, little Brentwood! Prices well worth the meal!

We took my mom here last night for her birthday and I was really impressed. We had considered olive garden but didn’t want to wait for 45 minutes to be seated. We made a reservation for 5:45 and when we got there the table was ready. The place was busy, every table full. It’s a clean, modern, slightly formal atmosphere with no chain restaurant feel. The food was awesome. Everything tasted fresh. Before 6pm they have some dinner specials that are a great deal. I’ll definitely be going back soon.

Best restaurant we’ve tried in Brentwood so far. The service is great, we feel at home with the endearing servers. And the food is tasty and flavorful. This is a great place to take your date or visiting friends and family to, and we love the location in the cute downtown area. Definitely recommend this place when you’re in town.

Horrendous service at Sweeney’s downtown tonight. After waiting tables for eight years, I always tip. Tonight, my tip went to the busser who was the only one who acknowledged me with my children, offered us drinks after our waiter ignored us for 20 minutes, and brought us menus and refills. Our waiter received an 18 cent tip. And let’s not get into the waiter who put my plate in front of my nine month old AFTER I told him not to and it spilled on the table. He’s lucky he didn’t burn my son. And please don’t think I’m one of «those» moms that lets their children act like they’re in chuck e cheese. Puleeze.
Update for owners: yes, review the same date as visit. Reservation was at 6pm under «Nahm.»

Best place around! Peter has always taken good care of us and every single dinner we have had their. The food is excellent and it helps to have owners/​staff that smile and take care of you like family. My entire family has been going to Sweeney’s for years. They are like family and I would highly recommend them to anyone. Says a lot when you’re willing to drive from the bay area all the way out to Brentwood just for dinner. Thank you Peter for always taking care of us, the WHOLE family. In fact see you this Saturday 10÷3÷15.
P. S. never once have we ever had a bad meal here, always fresh and tastes wonderful. The Calamari and Petrole Sole are so delicious!

Online says goes are open until 10p. We called at 8:20p & asked if they could take a reservation for 4 in 20 minutes. They said «we’re open, just come on by». We arrived earlier than 20 minutes later at 8:45 & there were 4 employees sitting at the bar eating bread & said «sorry we’re closed.» «Ok, we just called 20 minutes ago & said were coming & we would be there in 20»
This was supposed to be a going away dinner for a family member deploying to Iraq & we were really disappointed. It set the mood for the rest of our evening especially since no restaurant odes at 8:45. Never coming back.

Came back for dinner here today, and came in greeted nicely. However, when we were greeted by our server he spoke quickly, and was not patient.
He was all over the place and seemed disgruntled. Maybe he wasn’t having a good day…
We spoke to the manager in charge, and told him about the waiter.

Good local spot for a semi classy dinner/​date night. Family run spot and you can tell that very quickly upon arrival. Water and bread refills were spotty but the drinks were strong. Had three people serve us and was never sure who was our assigned server. Kinda messy on the service there.
If that doesn’t bother you than this is an excellent place for a Rib Eye or a classic Italian dish. Great location in historic downtown Brentwood and it’s fun to take a little walk after dinner and visit the park as well as checking out some of the local businesses.

I was not impressed… we ordered the Prawn Brushetta… it was like the prawns were drown in a cream sauce. My daughter ordered the shrimp scampi and I ordered the linguini seafood pasta. All the dishes looked like they had the same creamy sauce. My pasta looked more like soup. Severely disappointed and not worth the prices at all. Could have sworn that scampi is more of a butter not cream and my linguini said white sauce but it was literally more sauce than pasta which was just not appetizing.
We were asked several times how the food was. I only nodded to avoid any back and forth because clearly it wasn’t going to help seeing 3 different dishes prepared the same way. I’m not one to complain about my food as I sit in the establishment. It felt like the employees/​owners were trying to make a come back of some kind. I was literally asked 5 times… that was over board.
The waiter did not go over the specials… I guess that was our job to read the chalk board when we walked in (that we missed). I would have ordered differently.
Every time someone walked by our table it felt like we were going to sink into the ground with the flooring.
I won’t be back based on this experience, I don’t think anything would change. It’s unfortunate for a party of 3 we spent $ 130 with drinks… not a bad night out that I will gladly spend elsewhere for better quality for my $

Well, we went to the Olive Garden last night BIG MISTAKE. Their food was SO BAD I had to come back here and change my Sweeney’s review from four star rating to five stars. Never eat Olive Garden, always go to Sweeney’s instead for Good food made and served by good people that actually care.

In the past I’ve had their spaghetti and meatballs — yum! This time I tried their shrimp bruschetta. Outrageous!
Nice, quiet atmosphere. Solid place for lunch/​dinner.
