The Golden Pear Cafe

Average sandwich place — nothing special but quick and easy. There are a couple of them around.

I went to Golden Pear in Bridgehampton
And for lunch it is delicious! I had the turkey
Chilli and it was perfect for a wet, damp day! I would go back as I liked the cozy

Nice breakfast at Golden Pear. Haven’t eaten here in a while wasn’t a fan a couple of years ago. But was brought back to giving it a try by a colleague and noticeable improvements.
The eggs and fruit and croissant was very fresh. The aged cheddar is a nice touch.
Would have breakfast here again prices are golden.

Came here for lunch after going to a job site, had a really good sandwich and the cole slaw was pretty good. Nice space and lots of choices.

Rip off artists. Terrible service and terrible food to go with it. Perfect for the hamptons.

The Golden Pear Café first opened its door on Main Street in Southampton in 1987. Since then, it has expanded to three additional locations — East Hampton, Bridgehampton, and Sag Harbor.
I visited the Bridgehampton location during my recent outing to the Hamptons. The café isn’t really a relaxing, sit-​down restaurant, even though its price indicates it should be. I guess everything in the Hamptons is just really expensive.
I got there around 11am, so decided to opt for the breakfast option. There is a separate line for breakfast and lunch. They have a pretty expansive menu with breakfast wraps/​burritos and pastries. What caught my eyes on the menu was the 7 Grain Organic Belgian Waffle ($ 14.95). The café was decently crowded, but most people had pastries (quick grab-​and-​go), so I was really surprised by the slow service. The time stamp on the receipt said my order was processed at 10:59AM, but I didn’t get my waffle until 11:20AM. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t take 20 minutes to make waffle…
Anyways, the waffle was topped with fresh strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and bananas. It was served with Gold Pear-​branded maple syrup on the side. The waffle itself tasted… too healthy. It was super dry and tasted grain-​y. It must have been all the 7 grains in the batter! I liked the fresh berries on top. The waffle was served on a paper plate and plastic utensils. I feel like the place would have felt friendlier if it was served on a glass plate and regular utensils instead. The waffle came out to be ~$ 16 after taxes. What an expensive treat!

Stopped in after a day out east for coffee and stumbled upon a place that not only serves great coffee but food as well. I ordered a craft ciabatta sandwich with grilled chicken, smoked bacon and apple mayo. Not only did my sandwich come with a complimentary salad rather than fries but my meal, as a whole, was not only healthy but filling. Lastly, my mocha Frappuccino was made with real chocolate.

Again, why is everything so upcharged?! We came for a quick coffee break to unwind, but these prices are a bit much. $ 4.50 for a large iced tea?
Inside the décor is casual, tables and chairs, simple and comfortable. A decent selection of pastries and scones, as well as lunch/​brunch options.
After finishing my bland iced tea, don’t think I’ll be back… or I’ll just go to the Starbucks up the street (ugh and I always wanna support the more local business… unless it’s not as good…)

Ever since the new manager took over in bridgehampton, the golden pear has been outstanding, that includes the service and the wonderful management he has put into it.(so forget all the other bad reviews because those are just people who don’t understand how the service industry works!)

I really like their menu and side salads. An excellent place to stop at prior to taking the train back to the City. But service tends to be a bit slow — come early. It’s also pretty pricey for what it is (think NYC prices at $ 15/​sandwich).
They also have a good lighter options menu if you’ve indulged a bit while in The Hamptons.

Decent sandwiches but when you both order coleslaw as the side dish and they bring pasta salad its disappointing. «We ran out» … «They’re making more and I’ll bring some to you in 5 min.» 30 min later, having finished my sandwich I had to inquire. Finally they bring a small portion (one person size) and I said «there are 2 of us are missing the slaw.» The server actually argued about giving us what we had ordered after paying almost $ 40 for 2 sandwiches and a single diet coke, telling us that small portion was really for 2. They are either amateurs at customer service or just a NYC attitude brought to the Hamptons. I’ll be happy to take my business elsewhere.

We have come to this café four or five times now and we were there over Memorial day weekend. They do a fantastic lunch and coffee is the best we have had on the east end to date. The muffins and pastry are some of the best I’ve had. They are from a local bake shop and delicious.
The menu items are fresh and appealing. Needless to say after enjoying the coffee and treats we bought a bag of beans to go.
This is a really nice high end café that i highly recommend, especially if you enjoy quality food.

Decent soups: seafood chowder, Italian wedding soup
Coffee…not a fan, wasn’t fresh.
Beverages are a bit pricey (4.00 + for a snapple)
Everything else (pastries, sandwiches, wraps, salads, hot food) is palatable but not memorable.
Leaves this local longing for the old days of scrumptious New England clam chowder and ChocoLumps.

Stopped in for lunch on a snowy sunday and had an excellent piece of the quiche of the day – spinach, mushroom, and swiss cheese, with a side of Spanish rice which, for just being rice, was surprisingly delicious. My dining companion had the eggs and cheddar on multigrain, which was good, not mind-​blowing. Price a bit high but not for the hamptons. I’d recommend this place for casual brunch.

Golden pear is the staple café of the hamptons and it also consistently disappoints. Coffee varies from okay to bad and the food is edible but egregiously priced for what it is. Owners of Aroma: there is room for you to expand in the Hamptons!

I understand the prices may not be what you’re used to, but it’s for their premium real estate. They have some great sandwich options and revolving specials and they make a nice chai latte.
Really, though, this review is for the service I get there. They take my orders and fill them quickly, and most of the summer staff is polite and quick. Daniella is the best, she is always friendly and accommodating even while helping everyone else. Overall a solid spot for a quick snack/​lunch. Three stars + one for helpful service.

I love their coffee and blueberry crumb cake especially blueberry crum cake which is so… good.
I just knew coffee would be good when I just stepped in to use the bathroom on the way back to the city after spending a long weekend. I saw them grinding the coffee bean and knew their coffee would be good.
So my friends and I decided to try some coffee and deserts. Wow. Blueberry crumb cake is so good. I wish I took a picture of it.

Let me preface this by saying that I will pay for high quality of anything without a complaint.
The quality is lacking here for the price. For two 16 ounce vegetable chilis and two small juices, we paid $ 40.00. The folks working the counter are pleasantly neutral, and understood my shock over the price. This is a Hamptons location and I understand overhead costs, but COME ON!
Hold your appetite over with a Kind bar and some water from the gas station up the road.
In short: A glorified Starbucks.

Iced coffee is a must, especially in summer. And my morning ritual is not complete without coming for iced coffee here — the best out east.
— Bagels/​Flagels: are always fresh and good, yet a bit expensive. They will cut them for you as well if you want to bring home to toast/​etc.
— Cheese Danish: best pastry there. Perfect cheese/​filling to pastry ratio.
— Servers: Really nice and efficient (even with long summer lines). Bring anything you order to your table once ready.
— Oatmeal: served hot with fruit, brown sugar and cinnamon. Be sure to mix it up, but phenomenal! I would opt for the mini-​oatmeal as it’s fairly substantial.
— Framed Horse Print: It’s huge and $ 7k. A bit expensive and not very attractive, but if you wanted to waste a lot of money, it’s waiting for you… and that brings us to cost — overall it’s expensive, and even more so during the summer.

The Golden Pear has locations in many of the main towns in The Hamptons. They are a café that aspires to be above a deli, is on main streets, with good sized stores, easy take out and always some tables for sitting. They are ready to make you an espresso coffee or you can choose from a variety of teas.
Even off season, as my most recent visit in January, in Bridgehampton they had hot food and it was all fresh. I tried the mac & cheese and meatloaf. I didn’t like the soft bit too tangy salty/​/​carroty/​tomatoey– lol– flavor of the latter but it was fresh and I would happily try other things here.
They have a good oversized chocolate chip cooke! and they had some fresh blueberry baked cake of sorts when I was there. tried both. Go for the cookie. And the hot tea. They didn’t wow me as much as relieve me that they were there for good quick takeout. They certainly try to put out a variety of fresh baked items for people coming in for coffee or tea. Very nice to have that too.
