Can Tiin

This place is the whole package: beautifully designed restaurant, creative and delicious meals, reasonably priced, and a killer bar. It’s special enough for a celebratory dinner, but healthy, varied and economical enough to be an everyday eatery. Love this place!

This place was super yummy! The food was extremely flavorful and the service was great! The restaurant has a cute vibe to it as well. And it’s authentic Thai food! Be careful when you tell them ⁵⁄₅ stars when they ask how spicy you want it! I always say 5 stars at restaurants because it’s usually «white people spicy». Hahahaha. They also have a great lunch menu. This place is a must try!

THEY ADD MORE TIPS on BILL!!! The food is ok, service is not bad, but it is a little overprice, cause it’s at downtown, I am going to let that slide. However, they add more tips on our bill! We gave 14 for tips, but two days latter, the credit card shows the tips is 16! Can’t image there are people would do that!

Such an amazing meal was had there this past Saturday. The food and service are amazing. We had 5 people and we all ordered something different. Everyone was pleased. Maybe a little pricier than the typical Vietnamese, but it is in an environment that is awesome.
Nice selection of wines and specialty drinks too.

the Phở is great. The broth was fantastic in the Brisket phở. Got the pork belly steam bun as well. Delicious.

Fabulous. We split the three salads on the menu and all were excellent. If like me you sometimes find that phở doesn’t really adequately fill you up, Can Tiin’s twist on it should do the trick — much denser and tastier. Great cocktail — the Ballpoint Pen, a bourbon drink — and a really nice setting, particularly on the porch. Will definitely be back.

I eat here maybe once a month– typically take out.
The Pros–
Great menu, everything is pretty tasty. Quality ingredients, well prepared (read– not overcooked) and well seasoned. It’s got plenty of seating, waitstaff and bartenders are nice, and service is good. Cocktails are well made and tasty.
The Cons–
Portions for the two best entrees, the fish and the steak, are very small. They could provide a bit more accompaniment in order to offset this, but for some reason they don’t.

Very good vietnamese in downtown Bridgeport. The ambiance is industrial chic. The food was very good. 4 stars for the phở and noodles. They had some nice beers from OEC available. Full bar as well. Great service. I’ll return.

Not Great, just BAD :
We ordered a noodles, Chicken with Udon (heavy stock flavor, little meat, too many noodles)
Open concept — white room ambiance & LOUD, noise just echos, Sparkling Clean with just OK service
Cons:
— Small portions
— Food had no flavor
— OVERPRICED

Great ambiance, relaxed, ample selection of drinks. Ordered the rare brisket, nice presentation and the broth is hearty. Added fried egg on top and the portion is just right to where it’s not too filling mid day. Didn’t have the chance to order apps or dessert but will surely come back for some.

This place is great! Was really excited to try this place out. It’s really cool and I love the décor inside. Had a salad to share and a couple noodle dishes which were very nicely presented. And also more then enough to take home!
The point off comes from the ridiculous prices of the drink menu. $ 11.00 for a very small martini– that’s how much all the mixed drinks there cost.
If anything just stick to getting food.

Appetizer: Cheese burger bun sandwich.

Hippie Salad or Sweet & sour salad
Entrée: Eye of The Round noodle dish
with fried egg on top.
Dessert: Banana Peanut Butter Bun
The restaurant design and set up is very eccentric and chic. The design efforts and color schemes are very inviting and give Can Tiin a modern look.
Can Tiin is very top notch for Bridgeport and provides a sleek inviting bar and a excellent variety of Vietnamese French fare.
Bartender greeted us when walking in and our waitress (female) had such a hip hair cut. I forgot her name. She had very short hair with shaven design in her hair. She was very knowledgable about the menu and her recommendations were simply perfect! She was very friendly and attentive to our table. The service she provided us was excellent.
We will be back!

Not Great, but Not Bad either!
We ordered a Banh Mi, a brisket phở and a crêpe.
Pros:

Cons:
— Small portions
— Food had no flavor (Banh Mi and brisket phở)

This place has fantastic food, excellent service, and an incredible bartender. I had the spicy octopus stir fry, which was absolutely incredible. Tasty and just enough spice, with chili sauce on the table just in case. Great cocktail selection, and a very knowledgable bartender to craft a drink to your preference should those in the menu not be to your liking.
Will certainly be coming back here to try all the other menu items!

Boy reading the other reviews makes me think I went to a different restaurant. While I agree about the look and vibe I dint agree about the food.
The veggie spring rolls were under filled to the extent that without care the contents would all spill out. They were tasteless and so was the sauce.
The pork belly buns on the other hand were very tasty but the potion size was ah too small for what wasn’t billed as an appetizer.

Awesome food and ambiance! Service was also great. Octopus stir fry is awesome but really spicy if you do choose to get it! Good wine list and drinks. Loved it

Great addition to downtown Bridgeport.
They did an amazing job on the space. Very well designed and comfortable with clean, minimalistic décor.
Food was great. Noodle bowls were very good, but the crepes were a standout. Service was very good too.

On Wednesday I had a great lunch in Bridgeport at the newly opened Can Tiin and it was delicious. Jealous that my CT friends can dine here whenever they wish.
It’s evident Jeff, the bar chef is a liquor connoisseur. I normally don’t do cocktails at 1:30 on a Wednesday but a quick look at the menu made it too difficult to pass up. I left it up to Jeff to impress me and a short conversation about preference was all it took. The cocktail did not disappoint. Neither did the other two…
Onto the food. I am not ashamed to say I brought my appetite. Starting with fried chicken and a grilled burger in a steamed bun. They were a perfect start to a flawless dining experience. The next dish was a glazed chicken thigh. They were perfectly crisp yet tender.
The final dish was a spicy baby octopus with cabbage, jalapeño, bean sprouts, paper thin carrots tossed with udon noodles. I’m glad they mention spicy in the name of this dish because that is the first thing you notice. Once your taste buds adjust to the heat you experience layers of flavors and textures the Vietnamese cuisine is known for. I’m craving it now as I write this.
Connecticut friends… There is no question in my mind that one of the best places to eat in Connecticut just opened up in Bridgeport.

I have been to a few new places lately and there are usually a few kinks to work out. I might have expected the same from Can Tiin since they just opened this week, but I am happy to report that there were no obvious kinks here. If I hadn’t seen it under construction for the past few months, I might have thought things were running smoothly for some time here.
The old Bare Tapas has been given a beautiful facelift and a smart reconfiguring. The exposed brick was painted white, which really transforms the space. The dining area has been widened and tables were added upstairs. It allows for an open flow and creates a clean, modern vibe: this is the new place you want to tell your friends about! Oh, all those wires above the bar’s row of lamps? They are supposed to echo the outside wiring you’d see in Vietnam.
We started with the veggie spring rolls, which were a nice, lighter way to start our three-​course meal as this was the type wrapped in rice paper and served with a sauce for dipping.
Since Can Tiin is a French-​Vietnamese inspired bistro, we thought the banh mi would be a good choice since it’s a Vietnamese sandwich served on a baguette. First off, the bread had the perfect amount of crunch to make a Parisian proud. Inside tofu and vegetables were a nice match for the bread.
Luckily I set aside some of my share of the banh mi since it proved to be a nice counter to the spicy octopus noodle dish. It’s truly an exceptional dish with all of the above along with kimchi and sliced veggies. Edward, our excellent bartender and food guide, explained that the secret was a spicy Korean sauce. And he’s not kidding about the spice! I loved the dish, but the heat can be a bit intense.
I mentioned to Kevin, who checked in with us, that perhaps a few spice levels could be offered and he seemed receptive to the idea. I have a pretty high spice tolerance and I was sweating this one. Anyway, I would still totally recommend this to anyone who’s a bit adventurous when it comes to new dishes.
For the spice-​adverse, the crêpe might be a good option. It was flavorful and a nice balance to our other dishes.
Edward said the runaway favorite dessert has been the chocolate filled sesame balls. It’s kind of an update on the old fried ice cream you’d get at Asian restaurants, but so much better. It’s much lighter with a sesame batter taking the place of fried dough and melted chocolate inside, which is excellent. I honestly wasn’t sure what to do with the vanilla jelly in the bowl, but with that melted chocolate, who cares. You really only need one or two of these, but of course I had three!
I am excited about the newest addition to Bridgeport’s downtown. I think now it’s safe to say the state’s largest city now has a dining destination downtown with Can Tiin helping to round out the offerings. Joseph’s down the street is a classic steak house. Trattoria A Vuccella is the spot for fine Italian dining and Ralph N Rich’s has long been the area’s largest anchor. With all of these options, the stage is now set for the many projects that are planned or in progress downtown.
Plan a trip to Can Tiin for its excellent offerings or add it to a visit to the Bijou Theatre or the Cabaret two blocks away. Bön appetit!
Update: I have been back a few times since my first visit. Everything was still great!
I had heard some mixed feedback, so I wanted to check it out again. I think one of the complaints is that the food is not authentic Vietnamese. And that may be true, the owners specifically set out to offer a stylized version of French Vietnamese cuisine, so the Phở and other items are a take on those classics.
As for adjusting the spice level on that spicy octopus and noodle dish, the owner told me the chef is not receptive to adjustments, his way or the highway, apparently. So, don’t ask, I guess.
Sadly, those chocolate filled sesame balls are no longer on the menu. That was a surprise, but I’m sure there must be a good reason behind it. In its place, there is a watermelon white chocolate tart. Pickled watermelon are bathed in white chocolate sauce inside a French style tart shell. Not my thing at all, but my friend enjoyed it. I have become a convert to the tapioca parfait. It’s not too sweet and you feel like you’re trying something unique… and probably not being too bad in the process.
With these changes and a few others, I still think Can Tiin is worth the trip downtown.
