History

Established in 1922.

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo has been a sanctuary for animals — and a fun family destination — for 90+ years. What started as a collection of animals donated by Bridgeport area residents grew to once boast more than one thousand animals. Today, the focus is on saving endangered and threatened species while educating zoo visitors and school children about the need to protect wild animals and the wild places where they live. Connecticut’s only accredited zoo continues to top Connecticut’s tourist attractions charts.

Meet the Business Owner

Gregg D.

Business Owner

Zoo Director, Gregg Dancho started volunteering at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo as an intern while in high school. «Since I was hired in 1980, the Zoo has been my only employer and I wouldn’t have it any other way.» Since becoming the Zoo Director he continues to expand animal exhibits, enhance programming, and strengthen the conservation efforts of the Zoo. Today, Connecticut’s only zoo features more than 300 animals representing primarily North and South American species.
