The Gifford Cat Shelter is a cage-less, no-kill cat shelter. The shelter is a pioneer in creating an environment that does not confine cats to small, movement-restricting cages.
History
Established in 1884.
The Ellen Gifford Cat Shelter was founded in 1884 on land owned by Capt. Nathan Appleton and funded by Ellen M. Gifford. Originally a shelter for all animals, it eventually became a shelter only for cats.
