Salvation Army Thrift Store

The prices have gone up and up and up. Found something I really like around Christians time but it was way over priced talked to a sales person get it for a much better price. Long story short the manager did not sell them to me because I would not pay what he wanted and they still have them to this day.
The shopping carts!!! The shopping carts are from hell!!! The carts are a total joke. Broken wheels, split wheels, jammed wheels, BENT wheels, carts where only 3 wheels touch the floor, carts that won’t turn left, carts that will only turn left… The carts are garbage!!! I think the Salvation Army can space a few dollars to replace the carts. It is no joke that carts are just unreal…

This Salvation Army is larger than most in the Detroit Area. They seem to focus on furniture, larger appliances, electronics and clothing.
This location seems busier than most, however does not have the massive lines found at other locations. I’ve never had to wait extended times to check out.
As far as price of items, I believe they are in right in the middle compared with other locations. Quality of items are slightly higher thsn average. I’ve never had any issues with the staff.
They do play Christian music. I’ve read a complaint on a review about them playing Christian music, my comment is that the Salvation Army is a Christian organization. If you don’t like it, shop somewhere else. I think it is refreshing to hear something different than the same olé pop music you hear at other places.

If you can stand the mid-90’s Christian pop radio and the posters hung everywhere that say «Now Hiring! Must pass breathalizer,”(!!!) the selection is usually okay. Brighton’s LP collectors seem far-​flung/​nonexistent, so the LP section is incredible. Usually the furniture is fairly priced as well, much better than Ann Arbor.
I’ve had trouble with the shoppers, though, with a mini Tulip table… If you like a piece of furniture, you take that piece of furniture and you buy it, put it in your car, then go back for more. The workers won’t let you keep your stuff up front and are not friendly if you don’t «understand» the tag policy and people will take and hide your stuff to come back for it later if it’s a valuable piece.

The pricing on clothing is getting too high! Sometimes I wonder if I am shopping at Salvation Army!

The staff doesn’t rush you out the door when checking out, despite being understaffed. I actually saw this as a pro since I had some fragile items. The line can get backed up but it’s usually not too bad.
I found some cool stuff and it wasn’t too picked over. I ended up grabbing a couple LPs and some nic nacs.
If you are looking for appliances you might have some luck here and the TVs are very inexpensive if you need a cheap one.

You’ve gotta love the hunt! It’s hard to find really great stuff here (who arranges clothes by COLOR and thinks that’s a convenient way to find what you need… size, hello?) but occasionally you’ll find a diamond in the rough. Their selection of Christmas stuff is especially good. I got a great fake tree this year for $ 20 and I couldn’t be happier with it. There is a lot of crap mixed in, but that’s how it goes at these places. I enjoy the experience, hence the 4 stars.
This location is also really easy to donate to. You drive around back and they take it out of your car for you. It’s usually fast, and they present you with a receipt for taxes.
There are also senior and student discounts on particular days here!

Wow! The selection of clothes and furniture were GREAT for a thrift shop… I love it!

This place has some really great furniture, but the prices are way off for a Salvation Army. $ 200 for a dresser and $ 150 for a chair? Very disappointing.

I joke that that my mother doesn’t know she isn’t dirt poor like she was in her childhood so I pretty much grew up in a thrift store. This is one of favorite for clothing I have ever found.
Everything here is neatly displayed and organized greatly. I have found brand name dress pants and tops for work and cute jean skirts. Plus a nice bonus, the fitting rooms are kept clean and nice! We have learned to just start with a cart because we are going to need it eventually.
I don’t know what it is about this place… are they in a wealthier demographic? or do they have a rich benefactor? Either way they have the nicest quality stuff of any Salvation Army around.

Nice selection of clothes, but most cost more than new clothes at a department store. The furniture and other items not very good quality. Not sure if the high prices are due to the location or what the deal is?

I visit this patricular SA at least once a week and always come back with something I either need or want. Recently, I purchase 4 Margarita glasses for $ 3.00 and and extra long hose & shower heard for my 3 dogs. I had priced this particular item but at $ 30.00, it was way beyond my budget. Discovered it in its original blister pack — never used — for only $ 5.00. I am now on a mission to locate 2 kids wagons for 2 of my single moms. I’ll keep going back to SA until I get them.
In addition, this SA location is clean and well-​organized.

Psst! You want to know a secret? I’m a little reluctant to tell, but there’s enough thrifting wealth here to share. I wouldn’t feel right keeping this all to myself. This is one of the best Salvation Army stores I’ve found for semi-​dressy «work clothes» as well as coats and house wares (picture frames, decorative objects, dishes).
For whatever reason, there’s a relatively large volume of never-​used stuff here — from that pale yellow Ann Taylor cashmere sweater with the tags still on, to the vintage bracelets that are in such good shape that they must’ve been in a jewelry box for the last 40 years — there are plenty of gems. The store is large, so you’ll have to devote time, but isn’t the hunt itself part of thrifting joy?
I’ve never seen any jaw-​dropping furniture here, but the shoes and purses deserve a Nothing here is too ratty and the clothing seems startlingly clean in comparison to other thrift joints. No gray hands after sifting through the goods here!
Eh, I’d still reach for the Purell, though, just to be safe.
