Life-long pet owner and animal lover, Chris Bates, son of an Iowa farmer, owns and operates the company, which is bonded, licensed and registered as a home-based business in Prince William County.
Chris is PetSaverTM trained in pet first aid and CPR and is a Certified Professional Pet Sitter through Pet Sitters International, the largest U.S. and international association and network of professional pet sitters.
History
Established in 2013.
After 30-plus years in leadership roles in government and association management, Chris Bates, founder of Top Choice Pet Care LLC, decided to pursue his life-long passion to craete a business to deliver extraordinary pet care services.
Top Choice Pet Care LLC was created in early 2013 to help Chris pursue this dream and now delivers affordable, loving and reliable dog walking, pet sitting and related services to clients and their pets in north-central Prince William County, VA.

Business Owner
Chris was born in Davenport Iowa and grew up with dogs, 3 Mexican burros and an assortment of other pets. His father became a full-time corn/soybeans/hog farmer at age 38, following a successful business career in manufacturing, and Chris became a regular farm hand during summers, holidays and seasonally when needed. He assisted with hog care duties as well as field work.
Chris moved to Stockton, CA in the mid-1970s and graduated from University of the Pacific, where he met his future wife, Mary. He relocated to Washington, DC and received his M.A. degree at The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Since then, he has lived mainly in northern Virginia, where Mary and have raised 3 children, now grown.
A shared deep love of nature, pets and animals of all types has been a central part of Chris’ and Mary’s daily lives since their marriage in 1980.
