Castlewood Trails Cabin

The good — This cabin is beautiful. Very comfortable, interesting tables, top notch kitchen full of every kind of utensil you could ask for. The cabin was just secluded enough and we had deer right outside the cabin. We had the best time at this cabin. We cooked, hot tubbed, watched movies, built a fire. it was great. The only drawbacks we had on the cabin itself is that there were an awful lot of stairs and only two bedrooms when we really should have picked a cabin with three. After we left we told everyone what a wonderful time we had and liberally gave out the website to all of our friends. Based on the cabin itself this would be a 5 star review.
The bad — — Three weeks after we returned from the cabin our credit card was charged $ 75. No one called or emailed us about any additional charges. I emailed Carla to find out what was going on and she told me that we had broken a stool and that her cleaning person had told her the place was messy. There was a broken stool in the cabin, we noticed it on the first night and promptly put it back against the wall and did not use it again.
As far as the mess, I realize this is subjective but we spent the entire morning cleaning everything. We swept, did all of the dishes, put all the dirty towels and sheets in the washing machine. All of us checked it over and were satisfied with the cleanliness of the cabin. (I should note that a 65 $ cleaning fee was paid up front as well). We reponded to Carla and let her know our thoughts. She called and confirmed that she never saw any pictures of the mess that we supposedly left and only heard that it was messy from the cleaning person. Why wouldnt you ask for pictures or go check out the cabin yourself?
Regardless.if you want to charge us a fee for a clean cabin then ok, we agreed to that in advance. The thing that really chaps my butt is that this lady waited three weeks and then when she finally decided to charge us she did it with no communication to us. To charge our card three weeks after our stay and to not tell us at all seems extremely shady to me. I dont like the fact that this lady still has our credit card info and could choose to charge me something in 6 months. And if I didnt catch it on my cc bill then she would get away with it.
I also did not appreciate that her defense of not telling us is that «most people either dont notice or they realize that they deserve to get charged and dont say anything». I dont want to do business with someone who thinks that is an okay policy to go by.
She did refund our money. We wont be going back to this beautiful cabin, but thankfully there are plenty of cabins in broken bow that dont treat you this way. (Five Star Lodge is good example — they are wonderful there)
