The best supermarket on Allerton Avenue!!! I go here once-a-week & order sandwiches or cold cuts! The food is always fresh! They just need to make better inventory selections!!!

A&J stands for Angelo and Joe. Previously, they owned a Met Food franchise on the corner of Mace Ave and Eastchester Rd which closed down a few years ago and became a Walgreens. They reopened at this current location on Allerton Ave which has recently turned into a Foodtown franchise(they also own another Met Food turned A&J turned Foodtown in New Rochelle). Anyway, there’s really nothing too remarkable about A&J. It’s your typical run-of-the-mill neighborhood market that offers average groceries. They pack a lot in a relatively small space; the aisles are narrow so it can be a mini-project for two carts to pass each other. For some reason they also play the music really loud, not a deal breaker but it can get annoying after a while. Customer service is just okay, the checkout staff isn’t overly friendly but not rude either — just whatever. I don’t come here too often because I prefer the expanded organic and natural food selection that places like Fairway have to offer, but if I need something quick I’ll stop here.

The ONLY and BEST supermarket in the area. A & J’s always has everything needed and if they don’t have it, they’ll get it.
