I Love This Spot. The Bus Ride Is Worth It. Sometimes The Guy Can Be Rude But That’s Just Who He Is. Besides That Great Food Great Vibe

This place has been a go to of mine for years. The food is always delicious and fresh. As long as the gates open and the food is cooked I will be a customer. My favorite is the oxtail with rice and peas(which is tender and delicious) with a Sprite. In my opinion the staff and good food makes this one of(if not) the best Jamaican spot in the Bronx.

After reading the reviews of my fellow Unilocalers, I was looking forward to some great jerk chicken. The chicken appeared to have been fried and then covered with sauce. I prefer jerk chicken that has been marinated and then baked or grilled. I will not be back.

I really love this restaurant. When you first walk in, you know that you are at Back Home because you can smell the oxtails stewing in the pot or the fresh rice and peas getting spooned out of their metal trays into a food container for the customer. The food is absolutely delicious. The stew chicken is juicy, the oxtails are succulent, and the gravy of the oxtails is just as better as an add on for the rice and peas. I absolutely love the food here. The owner of the restaurant is cool too. He’s willing to invest back in the community, which not a lot of owners at local restaurants tend to do. He donated food to my high school(some curry chicken and dumplings) for our annual fundraiser. He’s really a cool guy and loves serving the community.

They need to update the kitchen. Plus, you can see right thru from the counter. Second they need training with their customer service skills. I gave it a 2 star, because the beef patties and fish are good.

This is a great little spot to get some Jamaican food and go. The portion sizes are generous and the food is always well seasoned and good. I love the patties, even the vegetable patty which I wouldn’t ordinarily eat. In regards to the décor/ambience – there is none. This is not a place to dine-in or hangout. There are only two tables and there is not wait staff. This is a grab and go joint. I don’t know what to say to the people who complain about the owner. He has always been pleasant. Just order, pay and leave. If you want camaraderie, go some place else. If you want a solid plate of good Jamaican food at a reasonable price – you’ve found your spot.

This place is great every time I eat here. I ride my bicycle more than 4 miles to eat here. The service is fast and the food is delicious. If you don’t know what you want, they will know for you if you are into Jamaican cuisine. I was recommended this place by a co worker and since have frequented this location regularly. They will never go out of business unless the owner decided to close the shop. They do not deliver, but it makes in more special in my opinion… Unless it’s cold. A regular plate will consist of Red Snapper or King Fish with steamed cabbage, carrots, rice &peas with a delicious sauce and a smile from Mr. Johnson or his wife. I elected the Red Snapper but next time I will entertain the King Fish. Mr. Johnson has been in this business for more than 20 years, which he proudly will have you recognize upon you asking or suggesting it is uncertain if he has the best food in Morissania. They also serve macaroni& cheese, calilou, bread, etc. They have ginger beer, sorrel, beet juice Snapple, canned drinks etc.

See, after eating here for a few years, I already knew the owner’s attitude was less than pleasant. But I keep coming back for those oxtails! It’s noteworthy that the Caribbean bakery Golden Krust opened right across the street, yet this restaurant thrives. You’d have to be sweatshop hungry to eat a plate larger than the small. Try the stewed chicken or the curried goat. It’s spicy in a way that warms your body, not stings your tongue.

The food at this place is great. The Veggie Patties have real vegetables and th Chicken patties have real chicken. I love the Stew & Curry Chicken, although the Jerk Chicken is a lil too spicy for my taste. The lady behind the counter is a sweet person and if you frequent the place she knows your face and exactly what you want to order. The man on the other hand like Benjamin B. said is a complete ass. If I am in the mood for some Jamaican food and he is at the counter I will bypass the place completely and go home and cook my own food. He was nasty to me one time, I cursed him out(in my Thomian(St. Thomas) fashion. I told his dumb that let it be know that I am the customer and I can and will put him out of business if comes out of his mouth again to me.
