Thankful for Unilocal I won’t be going here ! Almost ALL of the reviews are the same about it being neglectful and dirty and how poor the pets look. You can’t say ALL of these people are wrong. I hope the animals get help.

I’ve come here before to buy my clown fish food, and this place is not well kept. I feel so sorry for the puppies that are here. They look unhappy, uncared for and abused :(.

I have been looking for a dog for quite sometime now and I have finally found the perfect place to purchase one ! When I entered the store it was a bit noisy and it took me about 6 minutes to get the employees service since he was speaking to other customers. The employee seemed like he was new in the job, he kept asking the other employee about which breed is which. Regardless of the lack of knowledge this particular employee had, the puppies were perfectly fine. They all seemed happy and waiting for someone to take them home. I still haven’t purchased my dog from the store, but I am visiting every once in a while. Zoo Rama is indeed expensive, and the owner understands that not everyone can afford a puppy, he puts sales and specials from $ 100 to $ 200 off on a pup. Dogs such as Cavalier King Charles Spaniel are as low as $ 699. Back to the financial, there is a PERFECT plan, which is layaway! Sounds silly for a pet shop, but Zoo Rama gives you 7 weeks to gather all your money for the specific pup. After 7 weeks you have two choices either take your money back or make the deposit for another dog, or you can always speak to the owner about extra time. What can stop you from buying from Zoo Rama now? Puppy mill? After doing research I come upon a website that tells me exactly which stores run on puppy mills in New York City and no where is Zoo Rama mentioned. Lastly, I highly recommend Zoo Rama and I can’t wait to get my pup from there this summer, I will be sure to keep you guys updated. Here’s the link

This place abuses animals. They are kept in filthy and inhumane conditions by immoral people. This store should be shut down. Report them to 311 as committing animal abuse.

I lived around the area for a long time, wanted a pet and knew NOT to go here. The animals are always stuck in the windows, dirty and unhappy. I felt terrible for these animals and their $ 1000 price tag plus the «discount» would just let them continue to get more animals and stay in business. My friend was unaware of them since she recently moved to the area and after saying I wanted a kitten, she got me one from this place as a surprise for my birthday. She would be able to pick him up after they cut his nails and made sure he was okay. He was great but after a 2 days I saw he was constantly scratching, he had fleas. My friend was told he was clean, healthy and was checked for fleas weekly.
This was NOT true. It was a clear heavy infestation of fleas and since he was kitten I had to take him to the vet immediately for treatment. I had called the the pet store and they told me the same thing they told her, he had no fleas and was healthy. The state of the infestation was clear that they had to know he had fleas and just sold a kitten that way and left the owner to pay additional hundreds of dollars for a vet visit, shots, treatment for fleas and any additional things this pet store wasn’t «aware» of.
These guys are just trying to make money and do not take care for the animals they are selling. I hate this place but I’m happy my friend did go there and saved my kitten at least. If he had been there for one more week he probably would have gotten worse, especially since I had gotten him in an already terrible state. Please do not go here.

After reading some of the «five star posts» for this place & having had visited this store personally, I find it really hard to believe that those «five star posts are real. Obviously they are fabricated. If I could give them a
Negative Zillion stars I would. Let me describe this disgusting pet store/​pet jail looks like. Imagine walking past this place on a hot sunny humid day. At first you see the adorable cute dogs in the window that draw you into the store. As you step into the store, you smell the stench of potent urine & feces. You realize that in every cage the paper at the bottom of the crate is drenched in urine. There are no cushions in the crate so some dogs are subjected to sitting on the crate wire all day. You realize that the poor dogs in the window are being subjected to the blazing hot sun like an egg in a frying pan. The entire pet store is being cooled off by a fan so its musty & hot. There are no water bowls in the crate. To make matters worst some dogs are so fatigued that they just won’t get up. One word sums it up, this business & it’s owners are INHUMANE. Those who support any operation like this share that quality. Visit this trashy store for yourselves if you don’t believe me.

I love all of these great reviews for this puppy store that sells puppy mill puppies! I have been in this pet store and it is terrible what these poor dogs have to put up with. Stop buying from pet shops people!!! Put puppy mills out of business!!! And … When these puppies start growing they don’t have crates big enough for them. The people seem really nice in pet stores… They tell you they are getting the dogs from reputable breeders– but it’s all a lie!!! Go save a dog from animal control downtown!!! Or from the new Rochelle humane society or northshore if you want a puppy. 30 + dogs are put down everyday in NYC! Good dogs.

I’m not a huge review writer, and I would never write a bad one without giving the establishment an opportunity to correct an issue. Unfortunately, trying to take care of my complaints with them directly proved impossible. The store wouldn’t answer the phone or return my calls. My vet (Heart of Chelsea Animal Hosptial – highly recommended) also tried several times to get information from them. I even contacted the breeder twice who also ignored my calls.
Here’s the story:
I found a puppy listed on Ebay for $ 950. She was to come fully vaccinated, dewormed, and with health insurance. I called the number listed and the woman on the other end told me she was at Zoo-​Rama. So, I trudged out to the Bronx from Manhattan to meet her.
The people in the store were very nice, and seemed like animal lovers. My experience otherwise was pretty terrible:
The salesman told me, since I was interested in a breed that was largely unrecognized in that area (vs. a bulldog or lab, for example), that she hadn’t had any interest thus far. She was in a crate in the top, left corner of the store, looking groggy. He reached in and got her, and when she was let down on the floor, she went bizerk – it seemed like she had never been out of the cage in her life. She was so sweet and dying for affection, I had to take her home.
They said she was $ 1050, and when I said she had been listed for $ 950 on Ebay, they had no idea what I was talking about. They claimed she was already discounted by $ 250. So, I conceeded and we agreed on $ 1000. They gave me her papers and off I went. She needed a bath, but they said since it was chilly outside that they didn’t think they should give her one.
Since I left the store that day, I have spend thousands at the vet – the «insurance» was non-​existent. I realized a few days later that she had a terrible case of worms (imagine white, inch-​long bugs writhing around in her extremely soft stool). It worried me because she was lethargic and had a telltale pot belly. So, I had her looked at. Turned out she not only had worms, but also had a parasite. The most disturbing thing though, was that her papers said she had received her vaccinations in May, 2012. She was born in August.
I don’t know what happened to my pup during the first 12 weeks of her life, but I view this as a rescue case. Except instead of paying a $ 250 donation to an organization trying to help unfortunate dogs, I helped an alleged puppy mill (I read up on the breeder) and a dirty pet shop make a profit.

Zoo Rama is a great store with knowledgable staff and honest service. I recently bought a boxer and everything was clearly explained to me and a pleasant experience. They have a variety of puppies and each one them is taken care of and in wonderful condition. If you are looking to get a dog, this is the place to come.

I have nothing but praise for this business. I bought a ‘white’ miniature schnauzer from them and have been nothing but pleased. They are very knowledgeable, professional and most importantly very honest to deal with. This is a business that has been here for many years, not some fly-​by-​night puppy mill. All the dogs I interacted with before my purchase were all high quality and in beautiful condition. Keep up the good work and thank you for a great dog.
