My very food-critical mother born and raised in the Bronx said this round loaf(they said that is their best seller) was about the best bread she has had, when we surprised her with it from our Arthur Ave. trip. I’m not a big bread eater but even alone this bread was great. I also toasted lightly, with some olive oil and fresh ricotta… Delicious!

Every time I make the drive from North NJ to the Big-Little Italy in the Bronx, I make it a point to stop into Addeo and pick-up the prosciutto bread. It’s great that they always have it — most bakeries don’t. And it’s really great that it is consistently delicious!

Christmas Eve — store had closed. Lights were out. Door was open with a commercial customer picking up. Initial reflexive“we’re closed.” became«what can I get you?» One loaf of old school, perfectly backed Italian bread, even turned slicer back on. My mom took me here when I was 5. Have had their bread on my table ever since… 45years and counting. Thank you Addeo Family!

Their bread selection, quality, and taste is beyond delicious. I found that some of their breads cost less than store bought loaves, which is a major plus!

Delicious bread. So why just 2 stars? They seem to think it’s ok to handle dirty dollars then handle the bread. They wear a single glove then switch to bare hand if you want bread sliced. When I called her yet again on it she had a bit too much attitude for me. I’m realistic in that we don’t always know how our food is handled, but if you are showing me that food sanitation means little to you, I’d be a fool to eat from you. Keep ya nasty service and dirty bread. Go to Madonia three doors down.

This is the definition THEBEST bread you will ever have. The taste of an old hot oven is in every bite. Not sure if this is from a cola fired oven, but it taste outstanding. I wish I could carry this bread under my arm and take it with me everywhere I go and just add other great food items with it. I actually made a routine out of taking lunch in the area and sitting in my car eating a loaf of their Semolina Seeded Bread with a Coke. It is outstanding. When I am in the area traveling to family on Long Island I pick up a bag full of bread and put it in the trunk, because I will eat it while sitting in traffic. This is not a full bakery, they specialize in just a couple of items, bread, biscotti, Anisette Toast and a few other small cake & cookie items. OK, I am done and now I am wanting bread.

Simply put, Addeo’s is one of the finest bread bakeries in NYC. On par with places like Il Fornaretto and Royal Crown in Brooklyn. Caputo’s on Court, which one reviewer below mentioned, is good but overrated based on location; if you disagree, then stick to cozy little Carroll Gardens and leave places like Addeo’s to the people with taste buds. They own this shop, as well as a store front on Arthur Ave. I recommend coming to this location instead, as it’s the original and they typically are better stocked. While they offer all kinds of different varieties and shapes of breads, I just go with an Italian baguette with sesame seeds. Crisp and crusty on the outside and moist and soft on the inside with awesome fresh flavor, it’s what Italian bread is supposed to be. Their bread sticks are also great. Its all good enough that I try to go only to restaurants nearby that stock their bread! If you’re on Arthur Avenue, this is a must visit. If you’re not on Arthur Avenue, get your ass up here so you can get some of this!

The bread is good, but if you think it is the best Italian bread in the world, you have not tried Caputo’s Bakery on Court Street in Brooklyn. Plus, they have the best Italian cookies, ever, for $ 6/lb. If you are in Manhattan, it is likely closer to go to Brooklyn. Sorry, Addeo.

THEBESTITALIANBREADONTHEPLANET!!! After having a Hero on this bread, it became clear, the bread makes a sandwich. If you never tried this Italian seeded bread, run as fast as you can and get some. I’m eating a hero right now as I type.

THEBESTOFTHEBEST. I bought half a ring of some sort of very delicious bread with bits of ham in it. I also bought one loaf of chocolate bread and half a loaf of whole wheat bread. 20hrs later, only half the loaf of chocolate bread remain. The bread is just amazing. Very soft on the inside and tasty. The owners are very passionate at what they do. Perhaps this panache is kneaded into the the exceptional quality and flavor of their products. If I didn’t live in Manhattan, I would come here everyday. I wish there were some sort of big bakery store in Manhattan that brought together all the delicious bread and pastries from the borough — kind of like the farmer’s market, a baker’s market instead.

Great bread. Arthur Avenue is a great little place to visit. If you’re making the trip, you might as well get some exceptional bread as well.

BESTDARNBREADEVER! There are(2) locations, I usually go to the one on Hughes Ave not Arthur Ave, but I would guess they’re the same. I cannot stop raving about this place to everyone at work, at home… just plain everyone… here’s a list of great stuff to get there.: * Pizza Dough, there’s regular and wheat, wheat sells out real quick, choose your poison * Round hard bread… MMmm the best ever, I have them slice it and its perfectly crisp on the outside, soft & tasty inside. * Giselles — dunno the correct spelling, but they come in plain or with black pepper, go for the hot pepper, they are dry as hell(to me), but my co-worker loves them

Incredible that only one review exists for this place. They make, without question, the best bread in the world. In our family we joke that they must spike the bread with drugs or something because it really is amazing. Addeo’s bread alone is what makes me drive over to Arthur Avenue from Throggs Neck, every Saturday morning.
