McKeon Funeral Home

My husband and I had visited McKeon Funeral home on a Friday evening around 9pm. Even though they were already closed, they sent their staff back to their office to allow my husband and I to view the funeral home and to speak with their staff. They were polite, professional and friendly. Their facilities were very welcoming, well decorated and very clean. It felt more like being in someone’s home rather than a darkened generic funeral home. They let us tour the entire facility, including a children’s play room so they wouldn’t be exposed to a funeral. They were absolutely perfect and helpful during an extremely difficult time.
My mother passed away a few hours later. She was a devout Hindu. We had to perform Hindu rituals by sundown on Saturday, which left us about 16 hours to arrange and complete a full Hindu funeral. I called William (Bill) Curran, the Funeral Home Director at 2am and spent more than an hour on the phone with him in the middle of the night making all arrangements, including some very specific rituals that are unique to a Hindu funeral. Everything we requested was met with a «yes» or «sure we can do that». It is hard to put into words the grace and ease with which they helped us through a very difficult time.
The next day they, especially Bill, again helped us with all of the unexpected bureaucratic issues involved in a funeral, including transfers from the hospital, Medical Examiner certificates, and things we never even knew had to be done.
The arrangements and the ceremony were perfect, even down to the Indian music that gently played while our family and friends arrived to pay their respects. Their flowers were magnificent and beautifully arranged. They even allowed for the removal of shoes before entering into the room and also, allowed our priest to perform traditional funeral rites which included building a small fire and lighting incense. It felt as though we were having it in our own home and this would have made my mother very happy. Bill and his staff stayed with us throughout the day without ever being intrusive, but they were always there when we needed them. They were the epitome of professionalism.
If you are looking for a funeral home that will host a very traditional Hindu funeral and one that will let you observe rituals associated with the death of loved one, or one that is professional and very accommodating, I highly recommend McKeon.
My mother was the center of our family’s universe; I could not have asked for a kinder more understanding staff, and a more homely place to mourn her and send her towards her next journey. I wish I could give them 6 stars.

Horrible horrible people. They did NOTHING they said they would and what they listed in their contract, lost paperwork, threw away flowers that they said they «didn’t have room for» (which was untrue — the room was large enough to accommodate five times what was there) and were unbelievably rude to mourners about confusion THEY caused over the room. They really should be incredibly ashamed of their behavior.

I am upset because 24 days after the funeral service at WoodLawn Cemetery, I get a call from WoodLawn that they cannot put the ashes in my mother’s urn and put the urn in a niche until they get two form signed. This was never mentioned by Bill the Funeral Director before or during the funeral service. I called Bill after getting the call from WoodLawn and he said that my memory was faulty, even though both my wife (who has excellent recall) and my mother’s husband do not recall Bill every telling us about this. I felt we paid «good money» for the Funeral Director’s services and feel he should have told us. Instead of just apologizing, Bill just attacked my memory. He finally did say he was sorry but it was a very weak apology at the end of all the attacking. At the least, if he were a good businessman, he should know about the stress of funerals and just apologize without attacking, he is paid good money for it.

Last month was the worst month of my life. My husband of 17 years passed away at a very young age. Our worlds were shattered. Who knows what has to be done to get through this difficult time when all you want to do is join your loved one in heaven? With all of the family bickering that went on (yes, even then) William Curran knew exactly what had to be done and did what he had to in the eyes of the law and God.
He never took sides, he handled everything with the utmost respect, care and was very professional. The services he provided were well worth that little bit extra compared to the «other» places I called. it’s like going to the dollar store and getting lotion for your baby because it’s cheaper and then she breaks out in a terrible rash. This is my comparison to the other places. As for McKeon, it was like shopping at Lord and Taylor. He made sure my husband’s appearance was as if he was taking a nap. The casket was beautiful. I picked out a beautiful Urn to put my husband’s ashes. Everything was the way it should have been.
Bill was very comforting and he made everything so easy. I had a million questions. He took my calls every single time and was never bothered. He is eager to help and has the best facility. He showed us downstairs and the embalming room. All was clean and I cannot tell you how satisfied I am. I wish that I can do something as wonderful for him one day, that’s how happy everyone was with the services provided.
Don’t bother to shop around. Your loved ones are precious and even in death, they deserve the best.

I heartily recommend this funeral home and specifically the Funeral Director William (Bill) Curran who is excellent as is his support staff. We used this home in 2010 when my father died and are pre-​arranging again now. Bill went above and beyond the call of duty for me and my family and did an excellent, comprehensive job. He is understanding, kind, compassionate and his prices are reasonable for what you get. He even deals very well with people of other faiths besides Roman Catholicism. I had knowledge of the place from my local church, St. Brendan’s. You cannot do better than this place for when your close family or friend passes into the next life. Bill has wonderful resources for clergy, flowers, alternative casket providers, prayer cards, acknowledgments, transportation: you name it, he has it.
You simply cannot get better service than this establishment provides when the need arises. It’s even worth going out of your area for.
