Food was delicious, service was extraordinary and the sangrias were ok a bit weak, I would recommend the Mojitos instead they were on point. Great place to dine for any occasion, I totally recommend.

When the cooks are on point, this place is fabulous. My wife and I have been coming here (and their previous location on East 149 Street for several years). But sadly, it’s seems that whenever we find a restaurant that we really like – they always find a way to ruin it. Mexicocina has done the same.
On 3 consecutive take-​out orders they have fouled up our order. On one of them they actually gave us somebody else’s order and we didn’t find out until we got home.
The owner Antonio is a sweet guy. He runs a family business. I wish him well, but it’s likely we may only return on occasion from here forward.

Mexicocina is adorably decorated and makes you feel like you’ve been transplanted somewhere else. The guacamole is addictive. Got nachos which were great and the portion was huge (good reheated too!) Don’t forget to use the Unilocal check-​in offer to get a free drink. Came here for lunch but it looks like this place would be great for dinner or drinks too. The only negative was that the restaurant didn’t seem air conditioned and was HOT.

This place is horrible I have been a client for the past 3 years plus I order there at least 3 times a week, and big orders on top that and today they messed up my order and because I was busy I didn’t realize a half an hour later that they sent me the wrong food and when I called them to let then know, they did nothing instead of the them remaking my order they told me they couldn’t do anything about it and couldn’t take it back because it was too much time and that it was now garbage! Then I asked so that means if the time frame is shorter they would take it back and suddenly it won’t be garbage? The customer service is very very poor, not the waitress but mostly the person answering the phone and taking orders. I will definitely not recommend this restaurant. They have lost a loyal customer.

I don’t know I tried the Bowl taco what ever that is call and it was ok it tasted like a texmex restuarant it didn’t taste like a real Mexican restuarant for that I give it a 3 star

Love the décor it’s real rustic and they play good background music. Chips and salsa is delish! Love their tostadas and tacos of chorizo (spanish sausage). The staff is very nice and easy to talk to. The natural drinks are very refreshing! I like the limonada and Horchata (rice drink).

I haven’t had the full opportunity of diving in yet but my first time ordering and it was awesomely good. everything that I ordered was definitely good. I would definitely order from this place again. On my down time I would probably stop in and get the full experience of dining in as well. Delivery service was also fast thanks again

I have to say, I wasn’t impressed with the location. Just around the corner were the Projects in all their glory. My group however, did find parking and we entered.
My girlfriend noticed that a majority of the customers eating were of Mexican descent… BIG PLUS there! That means the food is going to be authentic! For those of you who don’t know– Taco Bell is Tex-​Mex, not authentic Mexican!
Anyways, onto my review! The place is small! The kitchen is a full one third the size of the whole restaurant! Matter of fact there were more cooks working than waiters/​waitresses! I think our waiter was doing double duty, as he was actually the bartender. With that being said– we waited 15 minutes for a seat– but we got great seats. Best in the house! We ordered drinks… took a very long time? That would be an understatement! When my drink finally arrived… Tamarind Margherita… absolute heaven!!! All was forgiven. My only complaint was that it was a lot of ice. We ordered beans, guac and chips. Took a while, but they were good. I had a burrito carnitas, my girlfriend had the fish and chorizo tacos. Kept asking for a glass of water… finally at the end I got it. What I didn’t get was the complimentary lemonade drink that Mexicocina added to Unilocal as part of the check in– despite me showing it to the waiter and seeing him write it down.
All in all– our bill came out to $ 156… that was less than $ 40pp… incl. 2 rounds of alcohol and great food. It took like 2 ½ hours to get our orders completed. They have to speed it up. Not sure what I would recommend in order to speed things up. Go there, spend money, eat good.

I’ve been here a few times and each time it’s good. They have a few vegan options, which is nice. They also have great juices and agua frescas. Each time I’ve come I had the horchata which is great. Their tacos are also really good corn tortillas. If you are feeling adventurous try the huilacoque. It’s a flavor I’ve never had before.
This place is great for small groups. The service is always on point. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Super delicious chorizo burrito– not that expensive either. Chipotle is wack this was delicious !!!

Mexicocina is, hands down, the best Mexican restaurant in this city. I’ve brought friend after friend to this place, like a deranged proselytizer, and they all leave converts. There’s a reason this place has Michelin «bib gourmand» designation. It is legit and the food is delicious.
The key is to order your tacos «Mexicocina style:» homemade flour tortilla, homemade queso. The best meats are the chorizo and the al pastor; for veggie options, I love the flor de calabaza and the huitlacoche. Don’t forget about the: killer horchata. Killer margaritas. Delicious tamarind agua fresca. The tres leeches cake makes me weep. Seriously, everything I have ever ordered (mole, chiles rellenos, chilaquiles, any of the specials) has been outstanding.
The ambiance is homey and warm. The service is low-​key but attentive. You’ll feel special for having found this hidden gem. I know I sound a little nuts but the food is seriously so good.
If you’re going to visit the Bronx Brewery’s garden, order in Mexicocina delivery. A spring afternoon cannot get any better.

Very cute traditional restaurant. The décor is beautiful I actually felt like I was in Mexico! I ordered the molcajete, delicious! The tamarita (margarita) was decent. I wanted now a frozen margarita but they only had mango or berries so I ordered the mango margarita. Unfortunately it wasn’t my favorite. Very yellow and it would even make a swirl of yellow coloring, I had to keep stirring it. Barely any alcohol in it. Other than that food delicious and atmosphere was was very attractive and cozy. Most likely will be back :)

Best place to eat authentic mexican food and feel like you are in mexico. Have been a customer since 7 yrs already. This place has always great service and great food.

We defenetly didnt have the beast of the best experience here… They confused our order waitress rarely checke on us and the food was okay not wow like other mexican restaurants… Waitress cleared the table and took my drink without asking i was left thirsty :(

I ordered online for delivery through Unilocal and while eating my first Al Pastor taco, I had trouble chewing through the meat. It was super chewy and bouncy. It was impenetrable, like no matter how hard a chewed, the meat wouldn’t break. I spit it out, then when I parted my lips, between my two front teeth was the culprit.
A RUBBER BAND. In my taco.
This band did not make me dance.
I called for a refund and I am awaiting it. Won’t be ordering again. I am really grossed out and sad, because not a ton of options near me late at night. Mexicosina would have gotten a cool 60 bucks out of me a month.
The guacamole was fine, and appeared to be free of foreign objects.

Update on refund: it took them 5 days and me calling 4 times before I just got a refund though
, not from Mexicosina themselves. Each time I called someone said «my refund was coming» and they asked if the rubber band was in just one taco or both of them… They only wanted to refund me for one taco if only one taco had a rubber band in it. Which is a real Fboy move for a $ 14 delivery order where someone could have choked.

The food was perfect and also the service so nice, definitely we will come back soon!

Had delivery on Monday. The food was really good. I got the Mexican taco salad. My only suggestion is that they put descriptions of the food on their menu. I think we would have been a bit more adventurous if they had. We ordered for 4 people and all of us said we would order from here again.

I am a customer of this place for a while now. They offer a very consistent service and when I am not able to make it to the restaurant, my favorite delivery guy Felix offers exceptional service and takes our order home quick. This guy makes me proud as I see motivation in him and unlike other restaurant from the area he is always with a smile.
Something special here is that the owner knows his clients and is always available to offer help within the restaurant. This is very important to me because it shows the owner actually cares about his Bussiness. Any restaurant where I know the owner is part of the line earns an extra star and I would have given them 6 stars ( Unilocal only allows 5 though)
They offer excellent meals and the restaurant is appropriate for customer of all ages. However, the portions are a bit large so order one meal at a time. Even though is delicious and one may feel like eating two or three of their menu plates, it will become a challenge.
All food is well seasoned, served hot, tastes fresh, and is consistent every time I get any of their plates. Approximate waiting time for my favorite meal is 10 – 12 minutes which is reasonable as it is freshly made.
All workers seem to be enjoy their job and treat customers with respect, quickly, and with a good spirit. Probably one of the best restaurants I have been to that exceed my expectations each and every time.
Sometimes it is extremely busy, but I always try coming during the non-​rush hours. Anyways I have also visited this location during its busiest times and the service is equally amazing plus a waiting time for a table to be available.
I am very glad this restaurant is in my area and proud of the person who opened it and his staff. Definitely worth giving it a try.

Fooled by the pics for sure! I had a shrimp chimichanga and I have to say that it was tasteless and disgusting at that. Another person with me had a shrimp quesadilla which according to her was worse then eating mush lol. Not only that but another person having dinner w us said the steak burrito got her sick. Well with that being said I would never step foot in that place. Décor was really nice but the ambiance was nothing but «hood». To bad we wanted to give this place a better rating because we are huge supporters of the Bronx community. But there is no way we could have. Fooled by pictures for sure!

This place has the bombest Guac & Chips. I’m obsessed with Guacamole. My friend gets the shredded Chicken Burrito and he loves that!

My family and I love this place, my kids always get the same thing steak or chicken nachos and the flautas delicious, my hubby also loves the chicken nachos. We order take out more often than we go to the restaurant, the food is always great.

When I voiced that I was upset with my first eating experience there the manager went out of his way to make it right and provided great customer service. I decided to give them another shot and I am glad I did! Maybe they were just having an off day the time I came in before. Now I get what all the hype over the food is about! The food is soooo good and taste fresh and authentic. If I lived in the neighborhood I would order it everyday. I had the shrimp and chorizo entrée which also included rice and beans. It was a big portion and very good. I definitely recommend. Great Mexican food!

Amazing, loved everything from the décor, service, food, sangria and dessert. A true gem just blocks away from home. Who knew?

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! I have been here twice recently and this is definitely one of my new favorite restaurants. They have great vegan/​vegetarian options (I am a big fan of the squash blossom flower and mixed veggie tacos), fantastic drinks (the tamarind water and lime water are fantastic), and really delicious guacamole and salsa. The service is friendly, though it’s not fast on busy weekends (and I am always nervous when servers don’t write down orders, especially when they come back once or twice to confirm, which happened last time). Both times that I’ve been here, it’s been with a small group of 6 – 8 people and we had a fantastic time. There is minimal bike parking outside but we made due.

I took a close friend here this past week hoping she’ll have a good experience of a Mexican restaurant in the South Bronx. The last time I dined here was last year and had a great time. But this time? I should have left as soon as we stepped in. The place was semi busy, there wasn’t anybody at the front door except people waiting for take out at the booths and the waiters were attending other diners. We decided to wait since the waiters were busy but once they were done they just walked straight to the kitchen and didn’t even acknowledge us. We brushed it off and figured we could sit anywhere. Shortly thereafter we were handed menus.
Since my friend isn’t used to eating Mexican food she had a lot of questions to ask me before deciding what to get. We probably took about 15min to settle on what to get. She ordered vegetable fajitas and I got a handmade CHEESE quesadilla. Simple right? Wrong! We waited over an hour for that. The waitress never stopped by to ask how we were or to at least apologize for the delay. And to add insult to injury my food was cold, I had to ask the waitress to reheat it.
Needless to say, I wont be back to this place and do not recommend anyone to visit this place.

Our lunch was AMAZING!
Guacamole was fresh and chips were warm. Tasted like they just fried them.
Had the shrimp burrito… OMG! Never again will I have a burrito from any other place. It was so good I couldn’t take a picture.
Classic margarita was great as well. Should’ve had another.

Just ordered the tripe, oreja, lengua and barbacoa tacos that were amazing, and so is the selection of proteins.
The spicyness of the salsa Roja sauce is magnificent, it opened up my nose.
I’ll have to visit the place to do a full review, but the food was great, only downside if you can call it that is the barbacoa had little bones in it… Out of all of my choices, that’s the one I expected to have the cleanest meat.

We were seated pretty quickly on a Saturday evening as a party of 5. The drinks came out super fast. They were tasty and strong, almost dangerously so.
The brasero para dos was delicious. It came with tortillas that I didn’t notice until the end, but I didn’t care too much at that point. The meats were all perfectly cooked, and there was a LOT of food, definitely worth the price. Everyone else’s dishes looked really good, and they all approved as well.
The dessert was tasty but unnecessary. It may have been due to the copious amount of drinks I’d had that night, but I swear I ordered one dessert, but ended up with two and paid for both? I don’t know, but I enjoyed it either way.
Definitely worth another visit!

Honestly, I really want to give them five stars, I really do, but after waiting for an hour for food with a waitress with attitude, I have to give them 3.
I found this place on Unilocal while working in the area, I was really in the mood for some authentic Mexican food and this place seemed as if it would be awesome. I entered the place, no one was at the door so I wasn’t sure if I should seat myself or continue waiting. No one said anything to me so I sat down at an available table. I noticed that they had a large group that they were catering to and so I just sat back and looked around at the nice décor. It was a great spot, clean, felt as if I wasn’t in the Bronx, a cozy location that whisked you away to some far off relaxing place. One nice young man gave me a menu and said someone would be with you shortly and I felt good about the place. Boy was I wrong.
I waited for 30 minutes! Thirty freaking I’m so hungry I can eat a horse minutes for a waitress to come my way and take my order. And you know what? She didn’t even come on her own, I had to raise my hand and nod to her «I’m ready». Now I understand that you have a group to deal with, but you can’t ignore any of your customers. You ask how do you know if I was ignored? Because I made contact eye contact with them and the same waitress even looked down at my table which had a menu more than once.
I was irritated, but I maintained my composure. She came up to me and immediately gave me a «I don’t want to deal with you or anyone else» attitude. I knew that from this point on even if my meal was out of this world, this whole experience was a loss for them because I will never come back.
After I ordered, I waited another 30 minutes for my meal, which I had to take to go because I had to return to work. I did not leave a tip.
The food was awesome, which is sad because they could have gotten a 5 star rating from me but the service is horrendous. Maybe she was having a bad day? I don’t know. But it’s obvious that they can’t handle the work load at full capacity which isn’t good if your in the restaurant business.
If you have the time and want to take a gamble with a waitress that might be PMSing then give it a try, like I said the food was delicious however the service was the pits.

The place is adorable. It is so inviting! My friend actually asked me if I wanted to go and have lunch and she suggested Mexicocina. As soon as I stepped foot inside, I was impressed, it is adorable and cozy. I ordered the shrimp quesadillas and orchata (I think) so refreshing and nicely sweetened. We were given a basket of tortillas and instead of guacamole, we were given a green cilantro sauce which was to die for!!! Delish.
Definitely will be back for more!
