Back in the day my mom use to work in the old western beef before it was remade and it was a good buisness and friendly environment. Now it looks great and everything is neat but I prefer the Older people running the place rather than the young ones. It gives the place a sense of direction.

Its a totally different store. Much cleaner, brighter, less dilapidated. I was staunch against this western beef location at first but my my has it changed. Love the renovation.

This place has evolved. In some ways, light lighting it feels way better. In other ways, like plantains 5/$ 2 they are swerving on the Deegan and assuming this is midtown. Overall the cashiers are really friendly, amusing and efficient. The floor staff is disappointing. God forbid you have a question and ask the wrong person. By wrong I don’t mean that they don’t work there, I mean that it isn’t their aisle, or basket, or cart, or problem that you can’t find ground mustard. As a result you will be punished via the merry go round. You can either choose to get off without the item you no longer remember or with a serious case of resting bitch face. I choose to just walk out and go to other places for certain items. The variety is great, and they are mostly upholding the needs of the neighborhood. The prices are higher than other local shops, grandma claims this is because the clients are financially responsible for the renovations. She is always right!

Yes indeed still my favorite store in The Bronx. Western Beef has got me with their well stocked shelves and freezers. The food is always fresh and the store is very well kept.(Clean!) When ever I shop in the Bronx, this is my store to go to. That’s why they get 5 star rating

This is NO Stew Leonards! Their products have very low competative prices, but thats as far as it goes. I only shop here when I have to and only when I can’t find certain central american products. Their staff is less then sympathetic when you ask questions. I was brushed off by two separate workers stocking shelves, who told me they couldn’t help me because they were going on «break.» When I found the manager I was told that if I didnt see it, they were out. I was on my own trying to find a product that was«out of stock,» but I highly doubt they only order and stock 18 flour bags at a time… more like lazy, he could not help me by going to the back of receiving!!!

With a focus on Latino foo products and a nice walk-in meat department this store is a pretty decent place to shop. Their steaks are high quality– but at a much lower price than in other stores in the city. The produce is ho-hum.
