We are an environmentally and socially conscious kind of place. Don’t worry — we are not overbearing — we do it behind the scenes. But we do feel there are a few things about our business practices and agenda you should know about.

1. Our food is locally grown and organic whenever possible. Know of a local grower? Please do email or call us and let us know. We are always looking for new sources and ways to support our local economy.

2. We recycle 80% of our refuse through recycling and composting.

3. Our menu is ever changing. What you see on here will be available. If you have a favorite that is not listed — just ask. Everyday is different, and sometimes specials pop up during the course of the day too.

4. We may be carnivores, but we love vegetarians too! We are building a full vegetarian menu. Have a recipe you love? Please do share it.

5. Music soothes the savage beast, inflames temperament, and is one of the greatest gifts of the world. Bring your CD’s.

Established in 2011.

Mind Your Own Business is a dream of a renegade cook, a baker with high hopes, and a lovely Irishman who simply wants to make people happy.

Actually, there are 3 owners:

Owen — Originally from Sandymount, Ireland he is our ray of sunshine here at Mind Your Own Business. He is probably the sweetest man you will meet and always has a smile on his face. Owen will be greeting you, helping you with anything you may need — and being his usual all-around-groovy self. Best Friend of Ned and Barbie.

Ned — Our Renegade Chef, Ned will always have something great for you to eat. Creative, cynical, and a bit of a loud mouth — don’t worry — he’ll be in the kitchen for the most part. Seriously though, his intense creative energy is wonderful. He and Owen balance each other greatly. He is the husband of Barbie.

Barbie — Baking fanatic/Waitress, Barbie will always have a sweet treat for you. From keeping it old school with Rice Crispy Treats to elegant cakes there is something for everyone. Sunny and smiley, she will always bring you things that will make you smile. Wife of Ned.

All is in the name of «Mind Your Own Business». As Matt J.‘s review said below, «if you are uptight, do not come here». I always tell my husband, when we come to MYOB, that it reminds me of stopping by a friend’s place as they cook lunch and dinner for you.
MYOB has different specials everyday but also has your usuals. Their Jamaican pork sandwich comes on this huge piece of crunchy french bread. I swear it must be more than 12 inches long. It’s so yummy and has a REAL kick to it. Don’t be surprised if your waterworks start. Their Mexican pizza flips are so addicting. It basically looks like a quesadilla with melted mozarella cheese sandwiched between spinach, mushrooms, onions, tortilla chip and pizza sauce. I also had a chance to try a pasta salad which was a special one evening. Their cheeseburger is juicy as you expect a burger to be. Myself, not being a vegetarian, actually liked their veggie burger and its flavors.
No table or plate is the same at MYOB. What you see is what you get. MYOB is a no frills, make yourself at home kind of place with good food.
P. S. I still bring cash when I dine at MYOB, although they take credit now. It’s not the usual way that credit would be taken with a card reader rather it’s done as an electronic online transaction.

This place could easily become home away from home. The food is PHENOMENAL and the staff is so warm and welcoming.
This place is worth the 30 — 60 min drive (we live in the Western Suburbs — Naperville).
The owner and staff will immediately welcome you and make conversation. Make sure to meet the owner and then read the menu. It’s hilarious.
We had the Vegetarian Stuffed Green Pepper and the Vegetarian Salad with Grilled Portobello Mushrooms. The Pepper and Salad were to die for and the soup was very strong (Red Cabbage Soup) that I SWEAR tasted like a heavy beef broth but was totally vegetarian.
I was so stuffed after being happily fed a very generous amount of food that I laid down on their couch for a few minutes until I could regain myself. What restaurant can you go to that you feel so welcomed that you can lay on their couch.
Again; home away from home. The food is SO GOOD!!! I must say the food is under priced, which is something no one will ever complain about.
We will be back VERY SOON.. . perhaps even tonight!

I enjoyed my lunch (cheeseburger & fries) and a Mexican Flip. I also tried the Red Dragon Soup that had a nice tang to it. The burger was a hand made burger with TLO, and the Flip was a tortilla with cheese and spinach melted within. The atmosphere is that of a coffee shop and the owner is a good conversationalist. This place is currently BYOB and in the near future will have some live entertainment and hopefully a fully functional bar.

For the last few Saturday mornings, we’ve been enjoying the coconut bars and pineapple cake from their booth at the Brookfield Farmers Market, and finally got a chance to wander down to the restaurant for the real deal. Oh mah gahd, this is some GOOD food, folks.
We decided to split the Mexican Pizza Flips and a veggie burger (so we’d have room for dessert, of course!). Ned suggested that the Ass-Kicking Burger could be done as a veggie burger — the kick comes from a topping of grilled onions with a nice smoky spicy bite, and jalapeño cheese — so of course we wanted to try that!
The veggie burger patty itself is NOT your everyday Boca-style burger — they make ‘em by hand with a blend of whole grains and seeds, so it’s not chewy like a soy-based burger, the texture is a little more crumbly like a falafel. SO TASTY. Even my non-vegetarian husband loved it and said it’s the best veggie burger he’s ever had. The «Ass Kicking» spicy onion topping was a flavorful addition, so if it’s offered, take it.
The Mexican Pizza Flips are also terrific! Each flip is like a folded-over quesadilla, with a whole-wheat tortilla filled with spinach, not-too-spicy tomato sauce, and mozarrella cheese… then grilled until the outside is crispy. Yum, awesome, yum. We couldn’t finish both of the flips, so took the extra one home along with (another!) coconut bar and slice of (frostingless) carrot cake. I’d already tried the carrot cake at the farmers market, so I knew we’d be happy to walk off our fullness and have a little dessert when we got home… and we were. :-)
Love having this restaurant in the neighborhood, and hope they stick around for a long time.

Interesting friendly place. Small menu but everything we had was good. The Mexican flips were were very good and filling. You’d have to be a Sumu wrestler to go away hungry after a burger and fries. The women folk enjoyed their burgers and steak burger. Although they couldn’t tell the difference between the regular burger and the steak burger. You definitely will get pulled into any family conversation going on between the owners and any other family members in attendance! :-)

Some free advice for the owners of Mind Your Own Business.
It’s fine to have a quirky name, be in a remote location, and have a dark and dingy space. I can live with that if the food is good. But my pal Melanie who got the Groupon (actually, Living Social, but I think the Groupon term has become generic), could not get past the two huge «Ron Paul for President 2012» signs prominently displayed on the outside window and inside above the bar. She is a typical Oak Park liberal and would not patronize a place with such anti-choice proclivities. I agree with her politics, but tried to reason with her that not using her Groupon would be putting money in the owner’s pockets more than not using it would. But it was a nice day and she wanted to eat outside, so we left.
So, guys? If you’re going to market yourself as Locavore and Vegetarian-Friendly, you’re going to attract a fair number of us Lefties. And those signs will quickly scare us off. There’s really no sense in any business owner advertising their political leanings, it will only antagonize potential customers. We will Mind our Own Business, and Take Our Business Elsewhere.

If you are uptight, do not come here. If you want to relax in a very, very laid back atmosphere, this is your place. So, the menu isn’t crazy varied. So what?
The food is very good. My wife had the chicken cutlet with horseradish sandwich and steak fries. She loved it. We split the dragon soup and then I had the shepherd’s pie. Awesome.
We talked with Ned, the owner and cook, and thankfully, he had the time to be social. He sat with us for almost an hour after we were done eating. He is a character in the best sense of the word. We will be back.
It’s nice to have lunch in Brookfield that isn’t served out of a basket.

I cannot believe I neglected to write a review for Mind Your Own Business!
If you’re looking for a review to push your decision on whether to go or not, just go. Go. Like today. Check it out. Read the reviews to know what to expect, but you should really just go and have the experience.
We went in late February (myself, hubs, 2 kids) and it was a gloomy overcast kinda day, we all kinda felt like just moping about at home where we could be comfy and cozy. FEAR NOT… we were able to feel totally comfy and cozy when we arrived at MYOB.
There was another couple there, having a bite to eat. Ned came out –he was the only one there at the time — and got us set up with drinks and we settled in with our menus. We decided to order a little of everything and share it.
Mexican flips, jamaican pork sandwich, chicken sandwich, burger, and ultimate cheese fries (nom nom nom) — everything was tasty, and obviously cooked fresh and to order. Ned was waiting for Barbie to arrive with some supplies — fresh, people.
But it isn’t just the food that made this a great trip. While we were waiting for our meals to come out, we played games with the kids, the kids hung out on the cushy comfy seating by the front, Ned came out periodically with a plate for us and would chat with us. Barbie arrived and honestly has to be the sweetest gal — chatted up the kids, showed them some cool mini-carousel horses.
You have to know that you are coming in for a laid back, easygoing kind of experience. I really enjoyed slowing down and spending time with our kids, having some great food and company, and meeting Ned and Barbie. We treated it as a one stop progressive lunch — one dish came out at a time, we’d split it up and sample it, digest it, and then the next would come out.
Check out their blog to keep up with their hours, news, etc. They have some growing pains to work through, but we’ll happily stick with them through it.
My main regret is that we were so full we didn’t try any desserts, which I’ve heard great things about. So I think on our next trip to the zoo, we’ll have to pop in for a hot chocolate and a treat.

So my dad and I finally tried this place once we realized it had opened. We tried the green dragon soup, which was awesome, the cheese and bacon fries, which also rocked, because it was a mix of real cheese and gooey cheese. And finally we had the mexican pizza’s, which were great. Way bigger than we expected. Delicious, but we have enough food for two or three meals. It’s great. I’m looking forward to trying it again and eating there instead of getting take out.

Tonight was my second visit… third if you count the soup I brought home the first time I stopped in to check out the place. This time my husband and I brought along two other couples. Each time we were warmly welcomed by Barbie and Ned. All six of us gave our dinners a strong thumbs up… burgers, chicken sandwich, and fish fry. Those who had the new Green Dragon soup loved it. The chocolate-oreo cake (ala mode) was delicious too. We loved the hominess of sitting together at the big table and ended up staying WAY longer than we anticipated (thanks for not kicking us out!).

I was here for lunch today with a friend, and we enjoyed our lunch very much in spite of everything that went wrong, starting with a village official walking in the door right behind us and delaying our lunch — thank you Brookfield.
Ned-the-renegade-chef was the only one there because of illness, and he’s not as bad as the description makes out — rather funny really. His food was good, too. He said they don’t accept credit cards yet, but plan to.
I was suspicious of the earlier glowing reviews, honestly, but I can see how they might be. This rating is provisional, especially as it’s new. We’ll have to try it again.
