Bendi’s Fine Fitting and Tailoring

This place is closed and has been for about a year. There is still a sign on the building but the owner now works out of her house (wherever that is).

For starters she is no longer in Brookline. Something must of happened and she was kicked out. Had alterations done in the past and was just okay. My husband had suit that needed alterations and we called ahead of time. She claimed she moved and gave an address on North Beacon Street in Brighton. She asked when we were coming and we said 12:30p. At around 12:25p she called and said when will you be here, I am waiting in the car for you? When we arrived at the address, it was Papa Gino’s! She came out of the car, we asked don’t you have a shop. She said yes, but its too far, its in Burlington. She said go into the bathroom in Papa Gino’s if you need to try the suit on. My husband said no way! Do you have an agreement with them and pay them. She said no but I get takeout from here all the time and they don’t mind. We said no thanks we don’t do business like this. Who in their right mind would go into the bathroom at Papa Gino’s at lunch time and come out with a suit on and have someone pin you. Also, how do you know she will come back with your suit. She was obvious lying about having a location in Burlington. Had she given us her address in Burlington we would of gone. She is a liar and cocky, as she left she said I am the best. She is far from the best. Stay far away!

I took two wool coats to have the sleeve length altered, and am very pleased with the work. Brenda, the manager, measured and advised me on the appropriate sleeve length, while taking into account my preference for a bit shorter sleeve. Both garments were finished within a week. I was especially impressed with the tailor’s retaining the original detailing on the sleeve end — both coats look great, just as they did originally, but now with an excellent fit. I will be returning soon with additional work.

I’ve come to Bendi’s with quite a few pairs of ill fitting pants, and have always been amazed at the quality of work, and the attention to detail. Because of my past experiences; i recently brought in a very expensive and delicate dress for alterations… I was nervous– but once again Brenda made made sure it was absolutely perfect. I love this place, and I’m still a frequent customer even though I no longer live in Brookline.

I started going to this establishment around 2008. Bendi was a bit of a legend and I’m glad I got to know him before he retired. Thankfully, Brenda, who took over the place afterwards, has continued the traditional of excellent tailoring. I’ve been getting a lot of work done on new clothes this summer, in particular, and I can say that the turnaround is always fast and I rarely if ever have any issues with the work done.

My husband brought over five vintage Armani and Burberry jackets he inherited. She did a beautiful job restoring and tailoring them to his build. Great and professional work.

It’s been 10 years since I bought a beautiful sharkskin pinstripe suit, but my love for food and alkyhall left me with a waistline a bit more generous than my suit pants would allow. I came into Bendi’s expecting a «maybe it’ll be tight.» Instead, Brenda was able to not only get my suit to fit again, but in fact it was extremely comfortable. The pants showed no signs at all that they were altered, and yet gave me some room to enjoy my friend’s wedding without having to pass on dessert. Thanks Brenda, I’ll be back.

This is my first Unilocal review but I felt like consumers needed to BE WARNED of this business.
I took my wedding gown to be hemmed and the train to be bustled. Pretty standard things to do with a wedding dress. Brenda took forever to pin the hem due to answering the phone and stopping four times to help customers, taking a total of two hours to consult with her. She didn’t seem comfortable making a bustle on a lace dress… which she called «cheap» lace. At the end when she quoted me the price, I was floored that it would’ve cost more than at the bridal store.
Though it was expensive, I may have still handed over my gown had it not been for her obvious discomfort working with the lace. So I told her I had to think about what I wanted to do with the train. She was obviously miffed when I left the store.
This is the SHOCKER, she called me at home and told me I left something at the store, could I come back? I checked to see what I could’ve left and then I realized she was lying to get me to come back in! She started angrily arguing her case that she spent a lot of time with me and wanted to be compensated immediately. Otherwise, I must come back in so she can unpin the dress. Like I would ever step into her store ever again at that point. I seriously felt unnerved and very uncomfortable with this woman who would dare call customers at home, to first lie to them and then scream at them.

I had a dress custom made in NY and when it arrived it needed some alterations. Given that I could not travel back to NY to have the alterations done, I went to Brenda at Bendi’s. Her manner leaves aLOT to be desired… I was nearly in tears at some of the comments she made to me. Fortunately I had been forewarned that she is really mean. But her handiwork is exquisite, and if you can bear her manner and shut out what she says, she’s worth it. Pricey but I don’t mind paying well for excellent work.

I went to Brenda with a very expensive couture bridesmaid dress that came to me from the vendor 3 sizes too big! With the wedding coming up in two weeks you can imagine how I felt.
When I met Brenda I explained to her my situation. She immediately put me at ease by ensuring she is a professional and CAN make this dress fit.
I tried on the dress and she took my measurements. It was clear the dress was oversized but Brenda was not worried. The price she charged was more than reasonable considering how much work she needed to do on the dress. I went to try on the dress one week later and it was a complete SUCCESS!

Although it has been a while since I had my tailoring job done (December 2010), after trying another tailor nearby (Christo’s…HIGHLY recommend taking your clothes there, just north of Coolidge Corner) and realizing I wasn’t crazy for disliking everything about my interaction with the lady at Bendi’s, I felt compelled to come back and share my experience.
Basically, I had a men’s suit jacket that just needed a slight alteration (I needed it to be about 1 – 1.5 inches leaner in the chest). I needed it in a bit of a hurry, and rearranged my workday so I could be there when she opened at 10am (what tailor should open that late). Regardless, she showed up to open at 10:30. Thankfully I got sized quickly and that was it. I was getting the chest narrowed and the sleeves slightly shortened.
When I returned, I found out I was being charged $ 100 and that she only took cash. Luckily I happened to have some! She was not particularly pleasant, and I wasn’t in the mood to argue or negotiate. After this experience I felt I’d been ripped off and taken advantage of… not a great way to be treated. Also, the suit jacket didn’t even really feel quite right, and for $ 100 I wanted that thing to feel like my second skin. I vowed to try another tailor next time.
Recently I had THE EXACT SAME SUIT in a different color that I wanted to get altered. Except this time I also needed to have the pants hemmed. I went to Christo’s near Coolidge Corner and he was friendly, introduced himself personally, left me with a smile, and did both the jacket AND the pants for $ 55!!! He’s been in the business for over 30-​something years and is a gentleman. Bendi’s was a terrible experience, and I will suggest to all my friends in the area that they avoid it.

I needed some jeans be taken up because I have short legs. As you may already know, the hem on jeans is not an easy task. Searching online I kept coming across this shop. Most of the reviews I read pretty positive, so I decided to give it a try.
I’ve been very happy with the results. The jeans always come back in great shape. The hem work is pretty amazing. I’ve always received my garments back within a week. I’ve never had to get something done with a short window of time, so I can’t speak about that. But they get a resounding endorsement from me.
I ended up deducting a star because of the price ($ 20/​jean). I think it’s just a little high. In the long run, though, I don’t mind because the quality of the work is great and they are very friendly.

I thought I read good things about this place, but I can’t say anything positive after my own experience. If you work and can’t be there before 5, the hours are very inconvenient (only open until 1ish on Saturdays, and not usually open as early as they say).
Not asking prices in advance was my mistake, but she wanted more than $ 70 for hemming 3 pairs of pants… and she doesn’t take credit cards! I gave her about $ 60 I think, but the only reason I was able to negotiate was because it took her two weeks longer than she estimated! That’s right, 3 weeks after dropping off my pants, I was able to pick them up. She had them ready a few days before, but once again, if you work, it’s almost impossible to get there.
So…average work, high prices, inconvenient hours and much more time than promised. I wouldn’t be sad to see this small business close down.

I recently had 4 items tailored at Bendi’s. While I’m mostly satisfied with the work, one of the items was not altered correctly at all. When I pointed it out to her, she replied «it’s fine, it’s not going to follow your body exactly». I have had items fitted to me my entire life and I know when bust darts aren’t placed correctly. I was also very frustrated when I went in for my fitting, as I feel that she was not listening to me about how I wanted my clothes to fit. I will likely return, but only for less complicated jobs like hemming.

She tailored my black woolen coat from a 4 down to a 2 seamlessly. It looks like it came that way. Turnaround was very quick – esp. considering the holiday season. I thought the price quote was quite reasonable considering that other places I called said, «Just buy a new coat – it will be too expensive.» It looks fantastic and Brenda is a sweet lady. Overall, I’m quite pleased!

She’s very slow, taking weeks to do an alteration and VERY expensive – $ 45 to shorten sleeves on a jacket.

Great work at a fair price with super quick turnaround. What more could you ask for?

Bendi’s is probably the most reliable tailor in town. Brenda at Bendi’s is professional, courteous, and most importantly, skillful. Whether it’s a simple hem or altering a men’s suit, she’s up for the job and does excellent work.
