TD Bank

Holding a bank issued check from my employer for ‘up to 30 days’ because apparently when you open a checking account they ‘have the right’ to hold the money. I get that fraud exists but the checks have already cleared from my employers account. The worst part is that online it says the funds are available to use. This is really It has been a nightmare and I regret sincerely choosing this bank.

Recently, someone gave me a check from this bank. I needed the cash immediately, so I went to the bank itself. From prior experience I knew that they would charge me $ 7 to cash the check because I don’t have an account there (other banks don’t do this). So I was dreading the experience of losing $ 7 for no good reason (and then being asked if I wanted to open an account so I could avoid this charge.)
What happened, though, I didn’t expect. They told me that because the handwriting in the blank for «to» was different from the rest of the check, they needed to call the client. When I showed surprise, explaining that it doesn’t really matter, and I’ve cashed checks like that my whole life where I fill in the word «cash» (the check was for $ 100), they said we’re not cashing this at all and took the check from me. Since then I’ve asked other banks if they would create such drama over something so small, and they say no, of course not.

i tried to open two accounts today, one a commercial, one a joint account for me and my wife. I was commenting to the person at the grand opening that i was leaving Sovereign Bank because they are so rigid.” we are quite flexible… you will see. where is your wife?” «she is not here, i can take paperwork with me and being it back w/​a copy of her drivers license.». «No we do not do it that way here. she has to come in person or she can not be on the account». wow flexible like you said. i bet the pens were chained there also.

I’m not going to write a general review of TD BankNorth as a whole like some of the other reviews I have read on here. This is specifically about this branch location or store as they call them.
I’ve been here before for the convenience. Despite having the naming rights to a 19,000 seat arena where the Celtics and Bruins play it’s difficult to find locations in and around Boston. But I hear they are working on that so I am excited about 2010 and beyond.
Anyway, I go to this store for the convenience only. Whenever I walk in I feel like I am being watched like a 5 yr old entering a toy store by themself. I am HUGE on customer service and never thought of writing a bad review about this store until I went there this morning and deposited a couple checks and inquired about the scratch and win game. For those that don’t know, TD BankNorth is having a huge promotion right now to coincide with their name change at the end of Sept (dropping the ‘North’ and will be known as TD Bank). I have been at other locations and have always been greeted with a friendly smile and small conversation while the transaction is taking place. The teller or someone ALWAYS mentions the promotion where you can entered to win $ 50,000 and also given a scratch and win ticket. So here I am stared at upon entering the store as usual. I am the only customer in there at the time and the reception was very very cold. I even tried to strike up a conversation with the male teller and asked him about the scratch and win game. His dry and inhuman response was simply «No. We are all out». Really?! Would it have killed you to elaborate a little or crack a smile?
It will be a while before I go back into this «store».

So TD Banknorth, if i’m at north station and dont feel like walking two blocks in the cold or rain to my bank’s atm you’re charging me 3 friggin bucks for a small transaction??!
3 dollars TD? Really? I mean. really?
Just know i authorized this riduculous charge with my middle finger!

So much better than Bank of America. The staff at this location were always very helpful and kind. There is even a nice little quarter dispensing machine in the lobby, which is quite handy for doing laundry.

I love banknorth– have had them since I lived in VT. But most specifically I love this branch of banknorth. The staff there are friendly, helpful, know my name, know my small business.
I always feel taken care of and empowered when I leave them.
Yesterday I was there for a half an hour and I got so much done it blew my mind.
Also– sometimes I bring the dog and they always have cookies for him. Bonus points for them.
I can’t say enough good things about them. I wish there were one in Somerville or Cambridge, but the people at this branch make me feel so good that I might still go there even if there were.

Doesn’t drain you with random fees and send you junk mail about refinancing and such like other banks. You also won’t need earplugs when using their ATMs (as is the case with BoA’s). They interface with Quicken very well. Now if only they had more ATMs…
