I appreciate the Meat House in Brookline! They are one of the best butchers in the city limits. If you have any special requests, I would recommend contacting them directly and asking. They will go the extra mile to help you out and meat your needs. Every staff member I have met there is fantastic, friendly, helpful and informative. I’ve had one item I did not think was close to their quality. I let the manager know this and everything was addressed.
Recently I had hosted part of a bachelor party at my apartment. We did what men like to do, grill steaks. I called the Meat House up and they put together a dynamite package carnivores dream of! Every one of us was satisfied! Some even said that it was one of the better steaks they have had!
Try it out! Some of my favorite items are: Their spicy Italian sausage, turkey tips, dry aged rib eye, and their To-​Die-​For Italian hoagie. That’s right they make some of the best sandwiches on top of being a dynamite meat store.
Craft beer needs? Wine wants? Check out the Meat House!

OMG… my kinda place! love the different varieties and cuts of meat/poultry.even rabbit, elk you name it! very friendly staff and clean…

I was surprised at how great this place was!
I went inside looking for Andouille sausage so I could make my New Orleans Red Beans and Rice. It’s VERY hard to find the right materials to make a nice pot of beans here in The North. But this place really surprised me and the sausage was very good.
Not only that, I was given a free sample of garlic steak tips and they were extremely delightfully delicious. Love every last cut of meat and I’m going back for more steak this week.
The customer service was out of this world and I loved every minute of it. Looking forward to my next visit.

I don’t like writing bad reviews — but I convinced a friend to buy several groupons for this location because the reviews i had read led me to believe that 1) this location sold grass-​fed beef, and 2) they sold the cut of steaks he wanted… well, this Meat House location does NOT sell grass fed beef as they claim there is «no market for it» and they also were not familiar with round cuts of steak. SMH.
Needless to say i cannot recommend this establishment. You are better off getting grass-​fed beef at Whole Foods. It tastes better, it’s better for you, and it’s better for the planet. :)
PS– their Chelmsford location does not meet criteria 1 & 2 either, but they were willing to look into the grass fed products and quote me on pricing. I have yet to hear from them but i will write an updated review under their location when i do.

I have lived in Brookline for almost 4 years now and finally ventured into the Meat House this past Sunday. My friend and I were looking for some bison meat to make burgers. Unfortunately we came after the rush and they sold out, but the staff was very helpful and assisted us in picking out some pre-​made burgers as well as some amazing steak tips.
The staff was extremely helpful (and easy on the eyes), he even helped me pair my steak tips with a great beer. This trip definitely earned a ring on the bell (need to go in to figure out this last part).
Highly recommend for any cookouts you plan to have in the last few weeks of the summer.

If ever there was a reason to earn zero stars this was it. My husband went in and got major attitude from a guy at deli meat counter because he asked him to change his gloves. Here is what happened: The employee had just walked in and out of front door with the same gloves on and touched the door handle twice. Then when he came back in and asked to take our order he didnt even think about changing gloves or using purrell before touching the sliced turkey!
Arguably the door handle is one of the dirtiest places in the store and to think this employee didnt even give pause to touching prepared food is SCARY!!! Yes he actually starting handling the sliced turkey with both his gloved (but filthy) hands.
When my husband pointed this out and asked him to change gloves the employee gave him major attitude, asking why he needed to change gloves. Once his lack of sanitation was pointed out and my husband mentioned how many customers had just touched the door handle with bare hands after touching cash the employee still didn’t seem to think there was anything wrong!!! We had to insist he change gloves and redo the order. Then he angrily ripped off his gloves and when he reached for new ones he threw the box of gloves up the counter and said mockingly «do you want some too?!».
HOW RUDE AND OBNOXIOUS!!! I DON’T CARE HOW NEW AND UNIQUE OR ‘NEIGHBORHOOD-​Y’ THIS PLACE MIGHT SEEM, IT IS RUN BY A BUNCH OF AMATEURS.
This whole interaction happened in front of numerous other customers and the employee didn’t seem to mind showing his ignorance of sanitation laws to all those present. Even worse the manager didn’t seem to care that much and barely offered an apology when my husband called later that day after storming out (along with other customers!).
Thankfully their food isnt even that good and you can get all the same stuff at Trader Joes, Stop and Shop or Michael’s deli. Oh and don’t worry, we called the brookline environmental health enforcement office to let them know about the unsanitary conditions.

I was so excited when this place opened, and I’m not even into meat. Half the time I can’t afford to buy from here, but it’s still great for window shopping and getting ideas for things to make since Trader Joe’s and Stop and Shop are also close by.
But I have bought a lot of food gifts (jams, baked goods, spices, meats, marinades, pastas, etc.) here for other people, and it’s a great place for that. The staff is always ridiculously nice, helpful, and well-​informed, and I could easily understand if they wanted the window shoppers to gtfo. The occasional times that I have bought food for myself to eat, it’s always been delicious.
If you don’t know how to cook something, just buy it anyways and ask the staff because they’ll give you really good instructions and then you’ll look like a fancypants when you’re back in the kitchen. They also sell some pretty sweet looking vegetables and fruits (just a small selection that goes well with the meats they sell) and more exotic types of flesh, such as alligator, which I have not experienced.
Lastly, I don’t even drink milk but they sell milk in glass bottles that makes you think you’re in a better, safer time. I love you, Meat House!

Im new to the area, and for Brookline /​Coolidge Corner… this is by far the best meat in town, that I have found.
I am always on the lookout for a top-​knotch butcher who has been cutting meat for generations, but Meat House is definitely close to it.

Meat House has 31 location across 10 states, and is a much smaller chain (see: franchise) than their neighbor, Trader Joe’s. OK. That said, I will tell you that if you put one right next to the other, I’m going to choose Meat House every single time, and it’s not just the name! Sure, they’ve got Boar’s Head, they’ve got great cuts, oddly a corn-​fed option in addition to grass-​fed, all the beef, pork, and chicken you could ask for, I doubt they ever run out of stock. They don’t locally source, and neither does TJ’s, but if you must… pick one or the other (because you couldn’t get to the farmer’s market)… choose wisely, choose Meat House.
There is, in contrast to its name, plenty of produce to choose from. They stock Ariston olive oil and balsamic vinegar (which is one of few balsamic vinegars that does not make my blood curdle — god, what is wrong with the balsamic around here???). They have a nice, overpriced selection of beer, not much in the way of the extras, but you can put together dinner here and grab some (better) wine or beer across the street and have yourself a pretty good evening, to be modest.
Oh yeah, another thing: the lines don’t make you want to kill yourself.

I hate to drop this place 2 stars but lately the cowboy ribeyes have not been up to the quality I have come to associate with The Meat House. There has been little marbling and I haven’t seen any prime cuts in a while.
The last time I was there, I told the guy helping me that I didn’t like the steaks I saw and wanted a 2 pound cowboy ribeye. He kind of rolled his eyes at me and pointed at one of only 3 out there while informing me almost condescendingly that this one is 2 pounds because he didn’t want to go back and cut me a new steak. I was taken aback and he made me feel as if I was a nuisance.
I hope the level of meat and service gets back up to how it used to be because I’d much rather buy steaks here than anywhere else.

I was one of those kids who’d happily climb into a shady van if it were advertising free candy. I should probably know better by now, but I pretty much do the same thing nowadays every time I go to The Meat House. Sure, the van’s been replaced with an appealing Brookline storefront that doles out delicious free samples instead of «candy,» but the danger’s still there. I’m probably not going to be abducted when I walk into The Meat House, but I’m likely to spend a shitload of money.
That’s only because everything they sell, from their sandwiches, sides and baked goods to their (yep, you guessed it) impressive array of grass-​fed meats, is awesome. It’s almost impossible to walk in there and not strip the shelves bare. The only thing really stopping me is my bank account, because The Meat House ain’t cheap.
Which brings me back to the free samples. When I’m spending a lot of money at a store, you better believe I’m gonna milk the samples for all their worth. Luckily, The Meat House always has good stuff on deck. Free soy-​ginger marinated steak tips? Mmm, don’t mind if I do.
Service is a little slow, as others have noted, but always friendly and helpful. And don’t worry, they won’t judge you too much if you stop in for a free sample and leave without buying anything. I do it all the time. :)

prices are not cheap, but not expensive either (students get 10% off, 2 burger patties cost $ 3.10 about).
always have free samples. free chip and dips in rear right of store. free cooked meats (steak tips last time I went) at back left, and free breads with olive oils and different dips in middle.
Store staff are incredibly kind and helpful. always offering free samples. I told them it was my first time (way back when it was) and the lady gave me free marinated steak tips! guy working behind counter helped me pick out a beer that I would like (Allagash Dubbel Ale, I highly recommend, so darn good). Just overall kind and helpful and great. They will also help you order exotic meats and with preparation questions.
They have a great selection of dips in rear right of the store (sweet onion dip, brushetta, salsa, artichoke dip) all from a local supplier, I get a new one every week. very good.
specialty burgers are great. My favorite so far is the maple bacon burger. Once they were out of them, and told worker it was special occasion, and he made me two patties on the spot (it was like 8p too). Great service.

This is my favorite place. I enjoy going here for deli meats and random other things.

Oh, I like this place, I like this place a lot. The prices are a bit steep on some products, but some things are very reasonable. My recommendations:
Delicious Boar’s Head Deli Products. My favorites are the Baby Swiss and the Vermont Cheddar.
Great cheese in the cheese case on the back wall including some great chevres and cheeses from Quebec.
Kalamata olives from the Deli
Breads from Clear Flour
Awesome wine selection and some good beers in their freezer case including Duvel, Chimay, etc.
If I had unlimited funds, I would buy so much more. Some of the prices on the items sort of terrify me, like $ 6 sparkling water. Who buys this stuff?

Before I even get to the meat, I want to say how impressed and appreciative I was of the customer service. All of the staff are courteous, helpful, and no sniffles of pretention, as I might have expected. And both times, they walked out my wife and held the door for her as she pushed out the stroller. Actually, they raced me to the door, and made me look like a bum. Bastards.
There is a nice variety of more specialty items, to supplement your dinner — such as great frozen manicotti, awesome frozen fries, and different spices and sauces. Definitely pricier, but it’s a specialty shop, so what do you expect?
As for the meat, there is a really nice selection of all types of meats. Is it better than McKinnon’s in Somerville or Whole Foods? I don’t know — but I look at their selection of meats and think I need to buy a second grill.
Having said that, the only reason we came here is because of our purchased Groupons — and probably won’t be able to be regular customers without these deals. So, Meat House, do it again!

What a great place to have in the neighborhood. I wish I were rich so I could frequent here every day, because they have the best quality everything. You can get your meat (straight up or dolled up), wine, beer, cheese, bread, spreads, sauces, imported goods, dessert, veggies, dairy… basically it’s one stop shopping for gourmets. The staff are all so friendly and helpful, what I’ve eaten has been delicious (love the honey bourbon chicken tips!), and the Groupon deal was excellent.
Sadly, it’s on the pricier end, and yes it’s probably worth it quality-​wise, but I don’t think my wallet would agree so I’ll have to save Meat House for a special occasion or to supplement my usual Trader Joe’s grocery shopping.

All October Meat House had October-​fest Thursdays where they offered free samples of select meats and appetizers. I was a huge fan of this and attended multiple times. The first time I went here one of the butchers actually asked me if he could help me find anything, and I said no but it was my first time in so i was just taking it all in and really loving their selection. He then said «oh! wait one second!» and went behind the meat counter and returned with a pretty good chunk of juicy steak tip samples for me to take home and try! for free! now that’s a great way to get devoted customers.
They have marinated steaks and chickens that are perfectly moist and flavored, definitely something I recommend as an entrée for your upcoming dinner at home.
Their wine selection is not too shabby either, I got a great limited edition summer zinfandel that was deliciously aromatic and fruity.
When their groupon came out we bought two, so we’re pretty excited to splurge on $ 80 worth of high class meat, at the house of meat, Meat House.

I got so excited when I first saw the sign for this place, as I could have sworn it said «Meat Market». Then I sobered up a little and saw the real name.
Oh well. One can dream right? Yeah, how the heck is a 90% vegetarian supposed to give a fair review of a place called ‘Meat House’? Honestly, I do not think I even looked at the meat counter. But having said that, they sell plenty of other things so I will focus on that. They have a nice selection of specialty beers and wines. also they have a good selection of gourmet foods and seasonings, plus they always have tastings and samples going on.
The staff is super friendly and they sure make you feel welcome. Kudos for customer service. This place is just awesome save for that whole ‘meat’ thing.
Now, if only someone opened ”Veggies House’ or something… but until then…

I actually ended up in the place before it even opened because they had people standing outside handing out menus. I knew this place coming so I figured it had just opened, well my friend and I grabbed a menu, waltz past them, and walked in. We were trapped. Those guys did not warn us! There was nothing on the shelves– just post its of what’s to come– and a lot of eager people who wanted to show us the (empty) store.
Well I still feel that crushing feeling whenever I come in here since the staff to customer ratio is in favor of the staff harassing you. My strategy is to wear headphones. I has been helping me get in and out quickly.
So the important stuff… the food! Their marinated steak tips are sooo damn amazing. The different sauces are fantastic and range from spicy to tangy to sweet. I think the best is the Maple one. The quality of the meat is good– not to fatty, not to lean, very fresh and portioned well.
However, I think their chicken shish kabobs are really bad. The chicken is really fatty. It reminded me of larger pieces of food court General Gao’s chicken. Maybe I’m picky by preferring lean skinless chicken breasts, but I still think it was wwwaaayyy too fatty and chewy for the quality of the rest of the things in the store and the way it was prepared.
