79th Precinct

I have an apprehension about the police, police stations… I’ve never felt as though they’re concerned with protecting and serving me, the public. I have a restored faith however when going to the 79^th precinct in bedstuy to file a police report for a stolen identity. The officer helping me was friendly, asked pertinent questions and seemed genuinely concerned; which is all I wanted. Hopefully, you the reader will my have to come here, however if you do, be confident that the officers on duty are more competent and friendly that’s not.

After I realized that my car had been towed, I called this precinct to locate my car. The officer on the phone was nice, but a bit clueless. He looked through a log to see if my car had been one of the «lucky» vehicles to be in the possession of the NYPD, but found nothing. At this point, my brain is going through all kinds of frenzy nonsense, but he was reassuring and stated at times, cars that are towed may not always get logged. Mmm… interesting. He also gave me a few phone # to try to track down my car, including the Sheriff’s office, the Marshall’s office and the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The only number that worked was the Sheriff’s office but no one was available. I called back stating that the numbers were incorrect and he apologized and then directed me to call 311. The experience could have been better, but overall, the officer was nice and was really trying to help me ;-)

I want to spend a good word for the 79^th precinct. In March, while on my way to the gym, I was attacked by four guys outside my place that attempted to rob me. They couldn’t get my wallet, but they left me bleeding and hurt. The police arrived within minutes (they were nearby because the same four guys attacked and robbed another guy just a few minutes before), and were very helpful. We drove around the neighborhood to see if we could catch the thugs, and then went to the precinct. There I received immediate care and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
I would like to give the 79^th precinct four stars, but I had to come to the precinct three times to file my report. The night of the accident I was asked to come back the following morning (which I did), because the officer in charge was not available. When I got the ambulance bill (btw, even if you are a victim of a crime, you are still responsible for the ambulance bill, which in my case was ~$ 500), I contacted the 79^th precinct to have a copy of the police report, and they couldn’t find it; I therefore had to go back a third time and file my report a second time.
