Specialties

ABC Child Center is a fully licensed preschool offering child care for children ages 2 — 5 years. The program allows you to pick and choose the days your child is to attend on a monthly basis. ABC offers many program options including Full Day (8:00 am — 6:00 pm), Half Day AM Sessions (8:00 am — 12:30 pm) and Half Day PM Sessions (1:00 — 6:00 PM). ABC also offers an additional Drop-​Off service on an as-​needed basis, on the days that a child is not registered.

Children attending ABC enjoy a variety of activities: arts & crafts, science, early mathematics & geometry, music & dance, dramatic play, pre-​reading skills and outdoor play. Additionally, children take part in monthly enrichment classes of yoga, music, and dance. ABC activities foster a positive self-​image, independence, cooperative play, self-​expression and daily living skills. Parents receive a daily emailed progress report that includes details about the child’s day, along with photos and videos of the child in action.

History

Established in 1993.

ABC Child Center opened its doors to 45 children in the spring of 1993 after 18 months of preparation. It became the first Polish-​American daycare in the NYC area and North Brooklyn’s first private daycare. Though originally the program was conducted primarily in Polish, with the change in Greenpoint’s demographics it has an increasing number of children of various backgrounds and the program adjusts to suit all. ABC values diversity, encourages bilingual play and activities, and welcomes children of all cultures.

After 20 years in the child care business, in June of 2013, ABC expanded its program and opened its sister company ABC Infant & Toddler Center on the first floor of 109 Nassau Avenue. ABC ITC is currently licensed for 31 children between the ages of 3 — 24 months with another 10 spots pending.

Our 4 year old son has been going to ABC full-​time for the past two years now and he absolutely loves it! The teachers and the administration go above and beyond every single day — and they are an absolute joy to see in action, every single day. Our son loves going to ABC, even now that he has started PreK. The ABC after school program is great and perfect for our needs, as a family. We are so happy that we found this amazing child care center — highly recommend!!!

My 3.5 year old son has been at ABC for a year and really likes it. He’s has lots of buddies that we meet up with at McCarren park after school and I think he’s learned a lot. It’s very flexible– you can pay per day and last minute you usually can get a spot day before. Unlike other daycare centers in the neighborhood that adhere to the NYC school schedule where you pay even when the school is on break and then need to scramble for backup care, ABC is open most days and the teachers really do consider themselves teachers not babysitters and take pride in encouraging learning. We are starting pre-​k in the fall and he’ll be sad to leave some of his friends. It’s a nice community.

My daughter has been going to ABC for almost a year. She had been to other daycares before but still, the transition was tough. The staff ABC they did everything to accommodate us, like changing her from one classroom to the other if it was easier, or been flexible with the potty training.
Now she is very happy, comes back everyday with lots of crafts. They recently added enrichment classes, so the kids get yoga, dance and music once a week.
Ms Eileen, the Education Director, is always happy to help.
I also ike the way they organize lunch for the kids: they have breakfast in the morning, then a soup before nap, and get the main dish after nap, then a snack later in the day. Being able to compare after having seeing 3 different daycares, this is a smart choice. In other daycares, they feed them lunch very early before nap, but they are not hungry, having just had cereals, and they don’t eat, so they wake up from nap very hungry.
I am sometimes a bit lost with all the different teachers in the big room (I don’t know how many they have or their schedules), but this has never been an issue.
If I didn’t put an extra star, it’s because they lack an outdoor space, but I like the fact that they go out to McCarren every day when the weather permits.

This daycare was recommended by a good friend and our son has been attending for a few months now. He struggled with it at first, like most little ones do staying at a new place with new faces, but now he has slowly been adapting to the place, his new friends and the nice teachers. The place is always clean and in order. They have a daily routine that the littles ones need and our son seems to now be following through with it. They are good with contacting us with any issues or updates.
In these last few months we have definitely noticed a great improvement in his behavior and social skills, since he was quite the shy boy before. When he has his off days they go out of there way to comfort him and are quite patient with him, which we take note of and appreciate. So far we were able to participate in the holiday activities with him and other parents, which I found to be great not only for the children but also a good chance for the parents to meet each other.
Yes, there daycare fees are NOT outrageous but we as parents are most concerned with the development of our child and this place has helped out with that in every way possible and that in it self is priceless. I’m so happy we were told about this daycare and we highly recommend it. Thank you to the teachers and workers there for being so awesome!

She’s learned many new things and brought home some great manners. It’s a rare affordable option in a neighborhood that is only getting more and more expensive.

My son has been at ABC for a year and a half. The teachers are very sweet and conscientious. They go to the park as often as possible and have some really cute events like beach and dance parties, as well as visits from librarians and firefighters. He also comes home with plenty of crafts for the seasons, holidays, etc. They serve a good, healthy range of foods and recently switched from homemade to a caterer. The few times our son has had a scrape or a bite from another student we received a phone call and an ouch report along with the daily report. We have never had any serious issues or concerns with his care. Of course, he is a young child who goes to day care all day, everyday so there are times when he doesn’t want to go. But there are days he doesn’t want to go to the park either. Overall, ABC is a great, affordable option. Most importantly, the staff members really care about the kids.

I just found this nursery school to be described best as benign neglect. Our child BEGGED us not to go every day and had never had issues before nor after with child care. No one seemed to be in charge and strange things happened like they didn’t inform us when other kids got croup (which my son caught) and they didn’t inform us when a child there got swine flu. I think that notifying parents as to what is going on and around the school is important. It was a horrible experience for us.
