I am very sad to read those negative reviews because I have lived near this store for close to 12 years now. I have shopped in the hardware store numerous times and never had a problem. I understand that the owners wife may have a English/​Chinese barrier language problems, but most times she is knowledgeable and able to help with most problems. My son was locked out of the apartment while I was at work and I called and asked Joe to stop over and try to do as little damage as possible to open the door for him. He was there in a jiffy and opened the 2 locks and put them back together for me. He charged me a reasonable price and offered to make several copies at no extra cost so that I had spare keys in case this ever happened again. Now that is customer servive and a friendly neighborhood store. I also buy my terrace garden supplies in the hardware store. I would highly recommend Joe orChris or anyone from all Star Hardware, they are good hardworking gentlemen. And licensed lockesmiths too.

Just moved into a new building, and needed to replace the non-​working deadbolt, and a busted knob/​latch after accidentally locking myself in my new apartment (which required taking the knob off and breaking myself out of my apartment).
Setup an appointment for Monday morning, he called and said he could come early, and did come 15 minute early. He worked quickly and installed new locks and mechanisms which should last for a long time. Tried to up-​sell me on some higher quality stuff, I didn’t bite (but I don’t begrudge the guy trying).
Great service, quality work. Of course it isn’t the cheapest, but you get what you pay for.

$ 35.00 just for them to come to you with no guarantee that they can fix it. Who has money to pay for them to come a look at the problem? Have you ever heard of free consultation? It’s the wave of the future. I asked the guy what is the purpose of the fee? He said gas and time. The place is 5 minutes away from my house! How much gas do you need? It only takes 2 mins to know if you can fix it. Smh.

Terrrrrrrrrrible customer service —
I went to get a copy of my key, and after they «fixed» the original one, it didn’t work. I just wanted an explanation — and the lady at the front desk starts getting angry with me and saying that it wasn’t her fault. She said I’m mistaken if I say that the key doesn’t work.
I went back to my house to try the keys out again, and it still didn’t work.
I had to go BACK to the store, and the lady refuses to help me and change her attitude — so the manager comes out. He was nicer about it, but he still wasn’t as friendly as I’d like.
I will most likely never go back again. The key eventually worked — I mainly had a problem with the lady’s attitude. She started getting feisty as soon as I asked about my key. For me, the customer service is just as important, if not more. If you’re going to have a bad attitude working with me, then I don’t want to return, no matter how good your services are.

Very poor, cranky service. I will not be using this locksmith again. They overcharged for the service fee (like $ 50 – 75), and the serviceman was incredibly rude. He has no idea how to be customer-​friendly.

This is the worst experience I have ever had with a business and its owner. Because we had security concerns in my apartment, we asked him to install a new deadbolt and replace the current lock with a more secure one. After we inspected the work that evening, we found that the door handle was extremely loose where it jiggled and a screwdriver could easily fit between the door and handle. It never did that before. We were very concerned that it wasn’t installed correctly and someone could break in. We called the owner Joe to come back and fix his work. He refused to even come back without charging us another $ 45 service fee. What kind of customer service is this?!? Bottom line, we weren’t happy with the work and as a locksmith who stands behind his work, he should at least check on the lock and reassure us the work was done correctly. Not only did he not do that, he said we were to blame for the loose door handles and that «we were living in a fantasy world» and hung up the phone! Absolutely unacceptable. Now we need to hire another locksmith to fix it. Save your money and go elsewhere.

I went to the store to purchase an item I needed to finish a lock installation I was doing myself.
The important thing is, in the end I got what I needed and it worked like a charm.
However, it wasn’t easy to get the cylinder I needed.
The women behind the counter fabricated issues I might have with the new piece and acted hesitant to sell me the cylinder in an effort to get me to hire one of the locksmiths. I know they can cost a fortune. I finally had to demand that they just sell it to me and stop discussing fake problems.
I’d advise anyone who shops there to know exactly what you need, not ask any questions or start talking to the salespeople. They will just try to upsell you by inventing issues.

WARNING WARNING WARNING: THE WORST EXPERIENCE YOU WILL EVER HAVE!!!
I called All Star locks based on a recommendation from Jay (Lockbusters) because they didn’t service the Brooklyn area. What started out as quick fast process, turned into the worst experience ever! After making the appointment to install a multi security lock on my new apartment door, Joey (the man who I believe manages the business) sent out a locksmith (and I use that term very loosely) name Chris to install the lock. After putting the lock on the door Chris «the locksmith» locked us both in the apartment with no way of getting out. Not sure what he did to the door but it no longer opened from the inside. He had to climb out the fire escape, go through the roof and open the door from the outside. I couldn’t understand why a professional locksmith had to go through the roof to fix the problem if he was on the inside of the apartment WITH HIS TOOLS.
After he opened the door, he attempted to fix the problem only for us to get locked in a 2^nd time. I asked him what was the problem and Chris became very defensive saying the problem wasn’t his fault (although my door was working fine before he got there). When I asked if he can just put the lock back on that was originally there he demanded I pay him $ 150 for his labor which is absurd since he was the person who created the problem. When I refused Chris took my entire door apart and stole some of the pieces to my lock to inconvenience me since he didn’t get paid for ruining my door. I was stranded in my apartment for 3hrs until another locksmith came to rescue me. I called the company to speak with someone in charge, Chris had already called and told his side of the story so Joey didn’t care to help or hear my side of the story. After we spoke I told him I was stuck in my house, he promised to call me back never did and when I called the next day several times he refused to take my calls. I will be taking legal action against them; Chris stole the parts to a $ 400 lock. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND USE ANOTHER LOCKSMITH!!! If you need one in Brooklyn M&D and in Manhattan S.O.S both are AMAZING

I live in a brownstone and locked myself out of my apartment (but not my building) one morning last week. I started to panic — I’ve done this once already and called the landlord, but I was just too embarrassed to do it again. Luckily — Joseph from Allstar to the rescue! He came within 15 minutes, got my door open in a snap, and I believe only charged me for the service call. The reality is you NEVER want to need a locksmith, but you will — and then you should call Allstar!

This is a review on their «residential lockouts» service only since I never visited the store. A few days ago I locked myself out, and found their number using Unilocal.An older dude with a beat up truck came to my apartment pretty quickly, opened and fixed the lock. That’s where the 2 stars go.
What left bad taste in my mouth was that person’s communication and attitude. He never mentioned any quote in advance. Then basically asked me to pay. When I asked for his explanation on the quite big charge, he raised his voice and basically threatened to call police on me. It was basically the worst experience I have had with a business so far in New York.
Fast? Sure. Professional, kind, friendly? Cannot be further from what I experienced.

Just moved and needed keys. Got them made. As the key lady was doing her thing, I browsed the plants outside, since I had walked by them a dozen times already. Finally decided to get a plant I had my eye on. Named it Terry.

Joey was a knowledgeable professional who quickly solved my problem. I was having problems with the mortise lock on my front door and expected that I would have to get a whole system. I sent Joey pictures via email and ended up taking the lock into Joey’s shop and after giving the whole thing an examination, Joey discovered that whoever had installed the mortise lock had used the wrong spindle. He cut me the correct piece, oiled up the whole mortise lock, and gave me a tutorial on how to easily reinstall it. After about an hour and just about $ 60 bucks, my front door is totally functional and working like new.

Got locked out in the blizzard. Joey successfully gained entry without breaking the lock.
Upon testing the lock we discovered that lock was defective so he did it over again (at no extra cost). fast, professional service.

Was locked inside of my apartment with another set of keys in the lock that no longer worked. Called and Joey came within 30 minutes and he was amazing, friendly, and efficient.
Found All Star on Unilocal and was really happy with the outcome!

I’m impressed. The door in my building wasn’t working for anyone and I decided to call All Star. Although it was a Friday evening, they had someone come over pretty quickly. He had me text a picture of the lock in advance and acknowledged that this door may be tough fix. Upon arriving, this description quickly became the reality, but the locksmith attempted to work on the door for the next hour. By the end, he acknowledged that my high security electric door would need the help of a specialist in that area. He even suggested that I contact the manufacturing company. Though I expected to pay him something for his visit although the door was not fixed, he declined, provided advice on having the door fixed and told me to have a good evening. Good customer service includes acknowledging when alternative services need to be called in. All Star got it right.

All Star was there when it counted. David was a total professional. He came out at around 7 PM to find us locked out when our lock completely failed. He called us on the way, so that when he arrived he had everything he needed to completely repair our door. David gave us confidence. While it was a large and costly job, it was done quickly and I believe the outcome was as good as it could have possibly been.
I just moved to the neighborhood, and I turned to Unilocal.All Star came right to the top and I was happy that I could work with someone in my new neighborhood. For any lock requirements, I’ll go back to All Star.
