There is so much to like about this bar. The obscure oldie films being projected? Yas. The niche posters of 90s references on the wall? Yas. The affordable drinks and free pizzas? YASSS. Lo and behold, this bar was made for the weird generation of people who grew up loving things that not many other people understood. I knew this the moment I laid eyes on the Starship Troopers poster on the wall, and then the weird painting of Arnold Schwarzenegger diagonal from it. Calling all fellow weird kids from high school – this is where we belong! Drinks are standard here, but honestly, you don’t need some sort of fancy craft beer to wash down a FREEPIZZA. How they can keep up this«free mini pizza with every drink» baffles me. Now I may have been pretty drunk around this time, but I thought the pizza was pretty bangin’ for the price of free.(Disclaimer: Around this time, I also find uncooked ramen noodles and cold meatball sandwiches in front of my refrigerator pretty bangin’ too). Nonetheless, I’ll be returning – and I’ll be bringing with me some more weirdos who will think this place is pretty darn nifty too.

Cool bar, bartenders are nice. Each drink comes with a small personal pizza which can really be clutch after a few drinks. They have games you can play like Jenga with truth or dare questions on it. Fun place to go with a few friends.

Purchase a beverage, get free pizza! What’s better than that?! Drinks are fairly priced and service was friendly and quick. This may be one of my favorite spots in NYC!

Awesome dive bar that serves FREE pizza with every drink! I could just stop there and that should be enough to sell you! Loved this place. It plays old school music which I love, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s…YESSSS! Joe the bartender is fantastic as well, really friendly. It’s a little bit far for me to walk to but if you live in Park Slope area, this should be your go-to bar.

I was pleasantly surprised with this bar! When you order a beer you get a free individual size pizza that they make fresh. The pizza is actually really good too! There are board games to play while you eat. This is a great spot with a relaxed atmosphere perfect to catch up with friends and have a chill night.

Great local bar. They have karaōke nights, give you pizza, and show basketball games, what else do you want? A great low key local bar in this area is kinda hard to find.

This bar comes up as a pizzeria, which it isn’t. It’s a bar that gives away personal sized pizzas with a drink. I was desparate because no other pizza places were open in the area. It is one of the most tasteless pizza’s I’ve ever had in my life. i couldn’t be more unfulfilled, more disatisfied, or more disappointed.

I was looking for the perfect bar in Park Slope to celebrate my milestone 30th birthday, and I couldn’t have found a better place! The owner Brad and bartender Joe were SO accommodating and nice to our entire group. No matter how many free pizza orders we put in(you can get one with every single drink), they just kept on coming at a very reasonable pace. It was a great place to watch some March Madness, with a big projector screen and three additional corner TVs. We were there for well over 7 hours, and never once felt like we were expected to leave. Also, they were totally fine with us bringing in a cake, and getting the whole bar to sing Happy Birthday. And I can’t forget to mention the hilarious interior wall and ceiling decorations. So much to look and laugh at. Highly recommended as a birthday party venue, or just a casual spot to grab a few brews and eat some free pizza. All in all, I was extremely pleased with the Cheez.

My wife and I walked into this place because we were looking for a place to hang out until our party arrived for dinner across the street. We didn’t know what to expect. Once we entered you could tell right away it was a real divey place. It wreaked of beer the moment you walked through the door. But the place did have it’s charm once we took a look around it’s small space. All over the walls are pictures and posters of total pop nostalgia from before the turn of the millennium. We both got a beer at the bar and the bartender was really friendly. We were in awe of all the cool things that were posted on the walls like the Wonder Woman and Knight Rider posters and dart board in the back. They had 90’s rock playing in the background which gave a really cool vibe. At the tables on the back wall were games from yesteryear like Simon says, Connect 4, 90 trivial pursuit, Jenga. Apples to Apples was also there which is a pretty fun game to play with a group. You could totally make a drinking game out of that. Apparently they make pizza there too but we didn’t get a chance to sample that. Overall it was a really chill place with an old school vibe. If I lived in that neighborhood I’d probably hang out there pretty often. Sucks for me that I don’t have a place like this near me.

This place is right up the block from my old art in South Slope. If it had only been here before we moved, I may have never left. It’s the perfect cheesy dive bar. It’s everything I want in a bar. Fun, unpretentious and you get a pizza WITHEVERYDRINK! And it’s actually good. Bartenders are nice and accommodating, great to chat up. American Cheez, I love you.

As others have mentioned the real stars of the show at American Cheez are the bartenders. Seriously some of the nicest people you’ll come across in their vocation… i’ve never not felt welcome here. Aside from that this place is just your average working class dive bar, but with a gimmick. That gimmick of course being free pizza and a décor that celebrates all things corny and commercial found in pop culture. It’s definitely a bit of a tired joke(David Hasselhoff, something something epic unicorn, Chuck Norris etc), but the bar just exudes warmth thanks in part to that. As another reviewer mentioned AC does seem more like a place you would find on the Lower East Side than Park Slope, though I enjoy that it sticks out like a sore thumb. You’ll probably never see a place like this in Williamsburg, that’s for sure. I’ll be back the next time it’s the 14th of the month and I need some free cheezy pizza bread to go with my big dumb beer.

So far, this is my favorite bar in New York. The bar selection is great. Not too expensive. Plus, you can get a free mini pizza with your drink! Perfect for drunk munchies or just munchies in general. This place gets crowded and is definitely very popular, but it’s understandable why. Good music, too!

Craft beer reasonably priced with a complimentary pizza upon your order? Yes! Also, American Cheez is a super geeky bar that harbors a love from horrible amazing movies starring Pauly Shore, The Almighty Arnold Schwarzenegger and probably Nicholas Cage, to Wonder Woman and other comic book heroes, to Garbage Pail Kids cards, to Troll dolls, to the NYC Rangers. Its cheezy. Don’t mind the lava lamps and disco ball. I came here a few months ago and am sorry I have not managed to drag any of my friends back because its fairly close to my apartment. I like it though the service is a bit slow. It took about 45 minutes for them to come out with the pizza. I can’t cry because its free and there was Sriracha sauce on the table which sealed the deal. Pizza quality? Not bad and I don’t think they even charged us for getting one with pepperoni on it. It’s on the Croc Lounge level of cheap cheesy pizza goodness. They also have board games like Jenga, Connect Four, Apples to Apples, and Trivia Pursuit and that’s a major win! Only downside, they are a Notre Dame bar. BOO!

This is an unusual place for 7th Avenue South Slope. It fits nicely in Williamsburg or the East Village, but here — among the quiet restaurants and kid toy shops — it feels off. However, this is not a bad thing. We visited American Cheez last Saturday at 2am. Oddly, it was empty but business started to pick up around 3am. At that point, the bartenders began singing, the free pizza was flowing and the inebriated patrons began to make conversation. You don’t get this at Double Windsor. It was wonderful.

I’ve always wanted to go to a bar where the owner said to themselves«Look I just want to own a bar where I can hang out and have a good time. On top of that I want everyone else to have a fun time with me.» American Cheez is the fulfillment of that vision. This place is plain fun. The staff and the owner certainly make the experience. I was a tourist that day but by the end of our time there we felt like regulars that lived around the corner. It’s a dive but not really. It’s a sports bar but not really. Hell it’s probably a bunch of things every night but that’s the beauty of it. I only wished that I lived upstairs and could be a regular. I wish I had a place in the bay area that made me feel this comfortable. On top of the fact the place was fun, the drinks were strong, and the people were amazing they give you free personal pizzas. Yeah you heard me right. Free complimentary pizza in NYC just for drinking there. If that doesn’t keep you coming back all the kitschy knick knacks from the 80’s-90’s adorning the walls will keep you staring and playing find this or that all night long. I pray that one day they open an American Cheez 2 in Oakland. you know since we are the next Brooklyn anyway… if you guys read this feel free to make this happen. I’ll even become a Notre Dame fan for the rest of my life.

Beer, pizza, karaōke, and popsicles! Went to this bar on a Wednesday night with coworkers. So many aspects of this bar won me over. Everyone was having a great time and very chill atmosphere. And when you purchase a beer you get a free pizza. The pizza is actually fresh and made on the spot. I had one and then wanted another. The people participating in karaōke seemed to be having a GREAT time. The bartender was pretty chill and laid back and started passing out Popsicles while we were there. I am assuming because is it super hot inside even though the AC Units were on. This is the type of bar that isn’t a dive but definitely a spot where I would you just come for the drinks. I enjoyed it

I really, really love this place! Ricardo is the best bartender in Park Slope — he’s personable, observant, and he will treat you the same whether he’s busy or not. He’s just great at his job and it’s appreciated! The draft selection is decent and the free pizza is divine(it’s free!). I especially love the selection of board games they have and the gaudy, cheesy décor(it’s all totally Instagram worthy!).

This is a Bar™-brand bar. It’s such a Bar™-brand bar that I didn’t even realize it had a name other than Bar before coming on Unilocal to write a review of it. I had to type«bar» into the search function and figure it out based on the location. Now all those posters in the bathroom about American Cheez Trivia Night make more sense. Don’t get me wrong: a Bar™-brand bar is not always a bad thing. Sometimes you don’t want artisanal cocktails or a wine list engraved on wood reclaimed from old railroad ties. Sometimes you just want a two-ingredient well-drink cocktail or a pint of the kind of beer your dad would drink. Sometimes you want to enjoy your drink without having to listen to a three-piece washboard band in vests playing ragtime versions of Lady Gaga songs or watch Dr. Who-themed burlesque. Sometimes you don’t want a bunch of creepy taxidermy staring at you from the walls. Don’t worry: the bar at American Cheez is a bar. It has stools and serves drinks. The walls are decorated in posters of guilty-pleasure movies like Sharknado and, like, Weekend at Bernie’s. I saw someone drinking a martini: that looked fancy and out of place. The playlist sounds like what you’d hear at a second wedding. There’s some TVs showing sports and movies on TBS and stuff. Last night I had to switch seats cause I kept getting distracted by Batman. The crowd is as generic-looking as you can find in NYC. This bar could be picked up in a hurricane, swirled through space, and plunked down in Minnesota, and it would still feel right at home. It’s a bar, okay? It’s just a bar. I was going to give it three stars because it’s as average as they come, but then I found out that the pizza is free and you can’t NOT tack on a star for that.
