Very solid and friendly local hardware joint with most everything you might need. I make my keys here. Really have come to depend on these guys — there’s no other hardware store on the southside worth your attention in my opinion

Helpful employees! Not a huge store but they seem to have most items you could need for basic home repairs and fixes.

Just stopped by to make some keys, the guy running the shop, Whitney, took awesome care of me and gave me a guarantee that if anything went wrong with the keys I could come back and he would make new ones. Fair prices, incredible service, definitely glad I found my new neighborhood hardware shop

This is my favorite hardware store! They know me and many of their patrons. I have been doing business with them for over a year and while they may not have everything, they are always helpful and friendly. This is the type of hardware store I look for!

«This store used to be great when it was located on Bedford. Cant really say the same thing right now. The store it self has pretty much everything you need but stuff isn’t that great. Just bought a ratchet wrench and went back in an hour later, to exchange it on something similar but smaller size, coz it wouldn’t fit in the gap between tv and the wall. It looked like a simple task but… I’ve been told that i can’t do it, coz it has no plastic film on the package. When i said that i just want a smaller piece, coz package didn’t say that i had to use an extension etc. then i got yelled by manager, who snatch out the box out of my hands, throw it in the garbage and screaming walked away.
I did want to buy a new smaller piece that they had, but walked away. Felt offended. Great customer service guys :(maybe i’m wrong but i’m pretty sure, you shouldn’t Scream on your customers…»
Writing an update coz right now i being blamed to be unreasonable :) Well, return policy says: all returns must be in their original packaging.
So as it was. All tools and box, even a small piece of paper (cover i guess), everything except plastic film (how i suppose to open it not taking it off? :)
Before buying it, i explained what i supposed to do with it, and that the gap is very tiny. Description of the tool didn’t say that i will have to use an extension which will make the device twice bigger, so it wouldn’t fit into the gap. The stuff didn’t warned me about it as well.
I came back to NOT return the tool, but to EXCHANGE it on something which will actually fit in. As i said to the guy at the counter — «all is god with the tool it’s just doesn’t fit in and I WOULD LIKE TO BUY something else INSTEAD, price won’t matter»
Right after that, things which i described above happened. Got yelled by the other guy (i guess a manager or someone higher rank) etc. So much anger and drama coz of 10 $ exchange.
in defense of other stuff, they were very calm and ready to talk and find a solution.
Now, instead of saying we are sorry (that we literally screamed at you and acted like crazy), or just something polite, you blaming me to be unreasonable. And making up things like i was «unhappy with quality and just wanted to returned it»… Read my review again please.
What a «great» customer service. I’m impressed.

Hey, there is a simple solution for everything — Conversation, discussion, talking to people.
And a short cut from Wiki — «The customer is always right» is a motto or slogan which exhorts service staff to give a high priority to customer satisfaction.

I rented a vacuum cleaner for 30 $ a day, that sounds ok but the girl, at the counter, gave me water-​based carpet cleaner instead!
Still, the owner is a nice guy, people are nice and very helpful.

fantastic service all the time. If they don’t have it they can get it and quickly. They’re knowledgeable, friendly and neighborhood oriented. I run a business that was across the street from their old Bedford location (and am still just a few blocks away from their new location, thankfully) and I was in their at least three times a week getting something to fix something and if I had questions about anything they always took the time to pow-​wow with me. I don’t go to any other hardware store in this area. I have also had many a key cut here and they do it in breakneck speed and the keys I get always work. Great neighborhood, independent, family owned business that I’m happy to give my hard earned buck to.

Very helpful staff. But will have to second the previous reviewers stance on keys, I had a set of keys made here a couple of days ago – one key worked and the other did not.

I’ve been on a kick recently reviewing some great businesses that usually don’t get Unilocal shout outs. B&G is at the very top of the list…
I am not a handy man… at all. I, like my father before me, come from a long line of men that usually pay other people to fix, install, and or otherwise permanently alter their home. Given that I’m not made of money these days and would like to learn to be a bit more self-​sufficient I headed to B&G.
The image I had was somehow drilling hooks into one of our brick walls and propping our art books on them. Think Wall-​Art-​Meets-​Library. I told the guy (sorry can’t remember his name) my idea. He shot it down with a perfectly blunt explanation of it’s physical lack of logic. We then walked around the store together as he worked through the ideas in his head.
In the end we wound up getting a bunch of small shelving brackets (like $ 1.39 a piece), a packet of screws with synthetic anchors ($ 3.99 maybe?). and a masonry drill bit ($ 5.99). He told me reverse the shelving brackets and bend the tip up and then brace the book with a cork or something. The result looks frigging incredible. Even my friends who are hot-​shot artists/​curators are impressed. B&G is definitely the place to go if your ideas are bigger than ur skill set to execute them!

Dennis is the man. We bought chalkboard paint, and the lady at the register, with genuine interest, told us to take a picture of our project to show her the finished product. People like those who work at B & G Hardware make the world just a little better place.

This is my local hardware store, and it blows home depot out of the water. Great prices, friendly service. I wish I had a reason to go there every day.

Small shop, but certainly the only place in the vicinity. Nice guys who run the place, always keep it well-​stocked and they are very knowledgeable.
Only downside is that they’re not open on Sundays and their hours aren’t very late into the evening, which makes it tough for people with day jobs.

Not only are the prices incredibly cheap compared to Manhattan, they tend to have most things you’ll ever need. The guys who work there are always really helpful if you ask a question – they’ll even tell you about the cheaper options available.
The only downside to me is that the credit card minimum is $ 10. Because I rarely carry cash, and if I do I spend it on food at places that don’t accept credit at all.
