Bay Ridge Subaru Service

Same experience as everyone else in service. Long wait to get an answer, long despair time for something minor, got my car back, and had a completely new issue. Also, the people in that place have an annoying demeanor as if they don’t want your business.
I love Subaru as a brand, but Bay Ridge Subaru makes the experience of owning Subaru less appealing.

I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but:
Took in my BRZ to replace a broken pass glass, car was broken into on the street. Fine.
They tell me I have to replace the regulator too because glass got into it and its toast. Fine.
Get the car back and there is damage on the door from INSIDE OUT, sharp bang, paint started chipping a few days after I got it back and I noticed. They tell me it was from the thief trying to get into the car… Fine…
Today I notice that the inside trim ON BOTH DOORS is fucked up using a trim removing tool and driver side door trim has gaps in it. So you know what, fuck it. I’m calling corporate.
EDIT: For what its worth the people I was dealing with were nice, so two stars. But the quality of the work and the unwillingness to own up to the damage done by them…

I’m annoyed I have to give this service department a star! My experience began with them instructing me to call my insurance to receive a tow to their shop (unnecessary because I’m under warranty), not having a loaner vehicle, letting me know that it would take TWO days for someone to look at my car, and the «piece de resistance» being told that I was responsible for the problem before a technician looked at the car. Moreover, I’m entitled to a rental and they failed to inform me of that.
Don’t bother filing a complaint with the service department– call 1−800−782−2783.

Freindly fast service here. If they are trying to sell you something prob because your vehicle needs it. They don’t have crazy prices and they are honest. Service advisors are nice and they have a quick lube service now if you just need an oil change.

This is not the service, this is the place where people don’t know how to fix the problem. However they have wonderful phrase «this how it should be».
I came here maybe 6 or 7 times for fixing my car, first few times I had clear noise in the back of my car when driving, first time they didn’t here the noise after driving 15min. Second time when I pointed to the noise, suddenly he hear the noise, question: Seriously??? You must show the mechanic the problem and every time when the noise came in I must tell him, «hear?». Otherwise you would here this «we took the car for drive and we didn’t hear». He could not fix it. He was assuming what could be the problem, but as he said «Subaru doesn’t like when you change the part not broken» Who cares? If you see the problem, you must fix it. After third time they told me «this how it should be».
One more problem with the car, very long cranking in the morning, sometimes very very hard start, I came first time, they… let say «checked the car» maybe or maybe not, only God knows. Anyway, from their words, everything is OK but we charge a battery a little bit. Oh, appreciate. Next time I came in with the same but the problem became worse, sometimes the car even didn’t start from the first time. But in this time instead of telling the problem because it doesn’t make any difference final answer will be «everything ok» Experience from the last times. I had a video of how the car starts. Again I heard that «this how it should be» but they charge the battery again. Are you kidding me? After argument with them they said «we dont know». They are so stupid. They dont know how to fix the problem they look at you like you are donkey.
I am tired of this, I wrote the complaint letter to District Office of Subaru.
I hope they will be out of business soon. I wish to put negative rating –10 000…
Dont come here for fixing the car.

Worst service ever. People are extremely rude at the service department. Unhelpful in person and over the phone. Has an attitude over the phone when trying to make an appointment. Always «busy». Said only do oil change and maintaince on Saturday. What kind of bs is that. I asked if other Subaru places are like that. They said yes and when I call koppeal I can bring it in and they check it in the morning.
Once had an appointment for an oil change at 830. Got my car back around 11 for a damn oil change.

I have nothing to complain about. The staff was friendly and were finished around the time they said they would be. The magazine selection in the waiting lounge was solid and the chairs were comfy. If you’re so inclined you can walk to the belt parkway promenade while you wait since it’s not terribly far. As far as price goes, they charged a pretty reasonable service charge.

Went for a oil change no appointment and was in and out in about 30 minutes.

Yeah, this service department is pretty ridiculous. It’s really difficult to get an appointment, and then when you come in they treat you like crap. Even if it’s for something quick (like a recall that should take 15 minutes) they want to keep your car all day.
When I need a dealer to service my car I now go up to Koeppel in Long Island City. They seem better!

Place should be closed down by the state. Besides incompetent, incapable, slow, condescending, and a rip off, its simply a scam. This is regarding their service department, or rather lack thereof. Dont know about their sales, luckily haven’t had to deal with it. Dont make the mistake many of us made. STAY SWAY!

Terrible experience with the service department. I had a 1’oclock appointment and showed up a prompt fifteen minutes early. The man at the service desk was snarky and rude, berating a female employee while entering my information. I merely had a warning light on the dash stating that it was time for scheduled maintenance. The clerk began ringing me up for many services which may or may not have been necessary. After all of this, he told me to have a seat — that the tech «took an early lunch» and that my car would be inspected in the next two to three hours. No thanks.

Service consultant David Wong is always a pleasure to work with. His customer service is impeccable! He puts the customers needs first and will do anything to make you feel at home. Promise time is always on point and my cars needs are always met. The technicians know what they’re doing — they treat your car as if it was their own. Definitely recommend this location for all your Subaru needs!

STAY AWAY. they are more likely to sabotage your vehicle than they are to repair it. Pay attention to all the negative they have written about them on the internet, its all real and my case was even worse than most. Complete scam artists, not knowledgeable service people, and just flat out crooks.

Had brought my 2007 Outback to the service dept. for a recall on the brake lines and decided while it was there to have the oil changed and tires rotated. I always maintain this car myself and keep up with all the maintenance items in the manual.
The car was ready as promised and seems to have been fine. After driving the car about 10 miles the driver’s side front end was making a rotation sound as if something was out of true.
The next morning I jacked the car up to see if I could find out was making the noise. The lug nuts on the driver’s side were loose. I tightened 4 out of the 5 lug nuts that hold the tire on. It was obvious that the nuts were not torque properly when the tires were rotated, they were so loose that they needed to be turned 3 to 5 times to be tightened. This is mechanics 101, basic stuff; the tire could have come off while on the highway and could have been catastrophic.
The dealership was called and they apologized, I brought it back to them to make sure the bearings or the spindle was not damaged. In about 10 minutes they said everything is fine, I don’t even think they checked. I took my car and will not return to this dealerships service. They created an unsafe situation which is totally unavoidable.

Dropped my car for some minor repairs. Asked them to give me a call with the price estimate. A few hours later, I had not heard anything so I called them. They were already doing the work. I asked why they had not given me an estimate. They literally told me that they could not give me an estimate for repairs until the work is done. They do not seem to understand the concept of a price estimate.

What a wreck. Had the car serviced once before and after dropping it off they promptly drove it into some garage equipment and had to repair and repaint the whole left side. Not sure why I brought it back again (stupid me…) but I did. I was experiencing some front end noise and had been concerned it was a wheel bearing. They claim not to hear the noise (the car is absolutely howling at highway speed) and wanted to replace my brakes which have about 10,000 highway miles on them. I told them to try again and they come back wanting to replace all four of my tires, which have around 8,000 highway miles on them.
Come on, guys. What a disaster. Go elsewhere.

Please don’t let the lower ratings of the service dep. discourage you! Everyone working at the sales department (where you buy your car) is absolutely phenomenal.

Oh my goodness… the service department is the WORST. They’re unresponsive, unkind and really unpleasant to deal with.
Had my car towed here after it started leaking oil. Wasn’t sure what was going on with it. They said they would charge me a $ 98 diagnostic fee. Two days later (I had to call them to get a follow up) they told me I needed $ 4800 worth of repairs. What?! My car has less than 70K miles on it and was bought new in 2009. I had a mechanic I trust up in New England call the service department to ask some questions about the repairs they were telling me were necessary. Apparently the Bay Ridge guys couldn’t answer any of the technical quetions and/​or justify the huge repair bill.
Okay, fine, so I went to pick up my car to take it to another mechanic. I had signed a statement saying I would pay the diagnostic fee. When I’m picking up my car, the guy says, «I’m gonna charge you for putting the engine back together.» We went back and forth a couple times — I pointed out that this seemed like it would be covered under the diagnostic fee and there’s no way I’m giving them anything else. Finally he huffed, «Well, I’m going to stand here and argue with you.» I paid the $ 98 and left.
Awful experience. Felt slimy and like they were trying to fleece me.

Service department severely lacking in the customer service department. Totally not on par with what’s to be expected from a Subaru dealership. They’d alienate a customer over a $ 9 part, just to be «right.» I’d rather drive to jersey to have my car serviced.

What has ensued over the last few months has been nothing short of absurd.
Failure to diagnose the problem here was crucial.
I took the car in and let them know that I thought it was head gasket failure. All signs pointed to that and my local (non-​Subaru) mechanic told me he thought it was as much. After three days of having the car Bay Ridge told me the car was «fine» after a radiator burp.
So onward! I drove to Jersey only to have the car overheat and coolant reserve explode in 20 degree New York weather as I crossed one of the busiest, scariest toll bridges in the country. The good news? The first exit rolls me right into Bay Ridge.
They had the car for about a week.
The dealership refused to diagnose the problem even though the answer was clear. Expressing my frustration with the work they had done (in a polite and direct manner) to a man on the phone, he responded empathetically and said something about the importance of needing a reliable car because I WAS A WOMAN. This pushed me over the edge. I don’t need a reliable car because I am a woman. I need a reliable car because I need to know I can drive an hour outside the city for work and not have the engine explode.
Not a lot of alternatives in this town. Just don’t drive a Subaru in New York.
