I like to mix it up and have never been much of a «regular» at any 1 place — until BH. The food is really superior to what you get at most coffee shops with a relatively short menu. They have the staples but aren’t afraid to experiment with unique ingredients. With capers, dill and pickled onion«The Works» is the perfect riff on that NYC classic, the bagel and lox. The chilli, walnut cease and kale stew are all favorites when I need a quick, hearty dinner. And the beers. BH is always changing up the selection and I can’t remember ever being disappointed. Unlike many bars the taps are always clean and brews are never skunky. They let you taste and do the half beer which I think is a class move. Staff is just the best. A rad crew with good taste in music — fun to kick it with if you’re hanging out at the bar. Good food, good drinks, good peeps.

A great place to both study and/or get a drink. Nice neighborhood joint, I like that you have to walk down to get inside its like a CAVE. They have good beers on tap. I have never gotten coffee here so I can’t talk about that.

I have lived in this neighborhood for 10 years and i have to say this particular café embodies everything people complain about gentrification. The whole idea of a neighborhood changing into an anti-community, non-caring place to live. Their coffee is ok — not as good as Daily Press down the street near the C train. But customer service has always been deplorable. Based on other reviews, i’m not alone in my feeling. Every time you go in there it’s like you did something wrong by showing up. It’s like they go out of their way to be rude. I think the owner is nice but she asks you to add tip to a credit card payment which is tacky. I won’t list everything, but today was the last straw. Every time i go in there i order an americano which is a popular drink. most of the time it’s crowded and they place their extras like milk and sugar right next to the register(another difference at daily press) So i stand or sit by the pastries. Invariably someone else gets my drink because they ordered after me and just decided to stand in the way of people adding milk or whatever. So i mentioned that they might want take people’s names and i was summarily dismissed. «It won’t be a problem if you just stand right here.» Ok, i guess they’d rather be right than efficient. Like seriously either move the milk or take names. The guy treated me like a nuisance when i was trying to be courteous to HIS customers. From now on i’m just walking the extra blocks to go to a place that makes a point of becoming part of the neighborhood and doesn’t treat the community like we owe THEM something.

Cute, cozy little spot. Super groovy music and fun, upbeat staff. They have a more diverse and hearty food menu than what you’d expect at a typical coffee shop. I had the peppermint tea, which was very refreshing; the egg sandwich, which was a top a delicious, fresh baked bun of some sort; and a latte, which was very decent. Cons: very few outlets if you’re trying to work; they don’t allow laptops or internet access on the weekends; you have to ask for Internet codes that expire every 60 min; it’s a bit smaller than other coffee shops in the neighborhood Verdict: I will return here occasionally for the friendly staff, good music, and baked goods

This is hands-down one of my favorite coffee shops. I love coming here to read a good book or do some work on my laptop(but not on the weekend; it’s not allowed). No extra fee for non-dairy milk in my coffee? Delish vegetarian woodstalk sandwich /sando? Fun mixed crowd of families and young hipsters? All the best things are here. You should definitely check it out.

Can you please tell your employees to wear gloves when they prepare the food!!! He was literally cleaning and making the sandwich in the same time.

I do really love this little spot in Bedstuy. I discovered it maybe two years ago on a date. It wasn’t my choice, but I was delighted when I walked in the door. Cute, friendly & local little spot that you could easily miss walking by. Decidedly designy, superb menu, and quite an amazing beer & wine list too. I had a woodstalk Sando once when I was here & was blown away. Yum. Another time I was here I had a grilled cheese. I don’t know if they still make those tho. Despite it’s name, they do serve beer & wine, so don’t worry your little Unilocal heads about that. The beer is a rotating menu. You’ll see it right on the chalkboard standing at the counter. Unfortunately I didn’t note down which one I had. :(I think it was a white ale of some kind.

Rude barista! Poor customer service! I just moved back into the neighborhood and was excited to try the closest coffee shop to my apartment. I joyfully walked in and asked if I could order something to eat. All I received from the barista was complete rudeness, in tone and manner, like I was wasting her time. I usually give baristas tips EVERY time(I used to be a barista) but this rude girl received nothing from me for a reason. I hope she knows that you get tips from GOOD customer service not by being shitty to the customers. The yogurt bowl was yummy but overpriced for the small portion($ 10 for yogurt, granola and a few slices of apples). I won’t be going back.

This is a great little spot in the hood and I love that it’s open early to late with a changing menu. The food and drinks are well done and the décor is welcoming. However, PLEASE start wearing gloves when preparing food. We can see you working, you know. And it’s the law(ready-to-eat prepared food=gloves). I’ve ordered food a few times and gloves have never been worn by anyone. I don’t want your(possibly dirty) bare hands all over my sandwich. Other than this big flaw, I’d give it 5 stars.

This place is the biggest rip-off in the world. $ 11.00 for one cider? Yeah, no thanks. Won’t be back. Avoid.

Best iced coffee I’ve ever had! It was the prefect treat for a long walk through Williamsburg. On the way back we stopped here again for beers and it was such a nice relaxed atmosphere. Only about half the tables were full and everybody was just quietly reading or studying. They(at the time) had a Hibiscus flavoured beer that I’ve desperately wanted to find ever since and haven’t been able to… sadly a bit of a mirage.

Would definitely come back if I’m in the area. I was at a work retreat near by and we all decided to take a coffee break. It was sweltering outside and so I got the iced hibiscus mint tea with just a splash of simple syrup I could have drank this all day. It was cool, refreshing, and absolutely delicious. The space is pretty cute as well, although it is small so when it’s crowded there isn’t a lot of space to move around. There are a couple benches outside if you prefer to enjoy your refreshments al fresco.

After coming upon this place through Unilocal,my girlfriend and I stopped in for some tea at around 11:00pm. She lives just a few blocks away and we wanted to relax with some nice cuppas after a little walk. When we first got outside, she was apprehensive about entering. We were in the mood for a relaxed atmosphere and the music was noticeably quite loud from the outside. We decided to walk in and assess to atmosphere. After a moment, we decided to leave and travel a few blocks away to a place on Fulton. When that place turned out to be closed, we came back. There were a few less people and we were craving some tea even more now. She had a light, grassy and tasty Japanese green and I had their pu’er. It was my first time having pu’er and I very much enjoyed what they offered me at that time. I’m finishing this review now, about four months later, and I’ve since jumped head-first into tea snobbery. I’d say that this place was probably responsible for getting me really interested. They write a good menu, are passionate, and offer good stuff. In retrospect, the only thing that would deter me from returning would be the music, which bothered my girlfriend and, admittedly, had me a bit irritated as well(until Wu Tang Clan came on, but really, though).

Addicted to their Americano coffee, Egg Sando sandwich, salted chocolate chip cookie, awesome staff and nice comfy vibe! Love it!

What a snotty, self-involved bunch of hipsters. Actively hostile to customers using laptops, even when café is mostly empty on a weekday.

I go here all the time and the girl who takes the orders and payment is so sweet she really makes you want to keep coming back. I’ve only ever had an almond croissant to eat but the coffee is good and reasonably priced.

I found this place walking my dog around my neighborhood. From the outside, I enjoyed the look so i returned another day and had a latte(the pumpkin spice was amazing). They have a system for buying a friend a coffee on a chalk board which is a really fun idea. Just go and read it some time. Sometimes the names are just normal everyday names. Other days it is like Dino is buying Tire a drink. What? Ok just as long as you guys are keeping track I guess! I’d really like to go back in the evening when they are serving beer but every time I think about it they seem pretty packed. Hopefully one day I’ll get lucky and be able to snatch a seat up.

This is one of my favorite coffee bars in the city, they are so much more than just coffee. Much like any bar in Paris, this place serves great coffee in the morning, and beer and wine at night. I honestly don’t know why more places don’t do this, it’s such a great idea. The lattes are hand made, 100% delicious, worth the wait — this isn’t Starbucks it takes more than 30 seconds to pump out a quality drink. The beer selection rivals much bigger paces — quality over quantity.
