BEST WESTERN Gregory Hotel

While we were a bit put off at first our stay was actually very nice. The facility is a bit dated but currently under renovation. Rooms are clean and modern and the staff was excellent at every encounter. Free self serve style breakfast was included and was very good but get there early as it does fill up quickly! Definitely a diamond in the rough.

Stayed here for a family event. I suppose if the price is right and you want to be in Bay Ridge and don’t expect much, it’s ok. Our event was wonderful, and we had so much fun in NY (and liked being so close to the subway stop — close enough to feel it roar by from our bed) that the hotel merely became a fun part of the st.

Very outdated hotel, staff is not attentive, and not worth the money at all. If you don’t have to stay in Brooklyn, better off paying about the same or a little more to stay in the city instead.

First off $ 25 overnight valet parking anywhere in New York is awesome!!!
The continental breakfast was nice, New York bagels are the best. The staff were cool and helpful and there is a bar! Rooms were a little dusty but for the most part they were clean, if you don’t know about the subway you will, in the Bay Ridge area the whole place shakes when the subway goes past (you will get use to it)

The Best Western Gregory Hotel in Brooklyn took a reservation system fiasco and compounded it with bad and defensive customer service. When things went wrong The Best Western Gregory Hotel in Brooklyn attempted to disavow responsibility for their errors.
If you run a hotel a reservation system that can keep track of the people staying at your property is a must. I signed a contract in August of 2013 for 10 rooms in October of 2013 with the Best Western Gregory Hotel in Brooklyn and experienced horrible and rude customer service.
Several of my guests were traveling from out of the NYC area to attend an event with 700 other people in Brooklyn. With all the moving pieces to coordinate this event the Best Western Gregory Hotel in Brooklyn was the only part that went wrong.
Six serious problems with The Best Western Gregory Hotel in Brooklyn:
1. The desk clerks could never answer the most simple questions about my contract and had no idea how to look up a contract reservation in the system.
2. The desk clerks always referred my questions to Justine or Ellen the 2 managers, but they rarely were at the property or able to come to the phone. Most of my phone calls were not returned.
3. The Best Western Gregory Hotel in Brooklyn some how double booked all of the reservations. The day before the event they cancelled all of the reservations. Please keep in mind I had people come in from Texas and California and Ohio and Connecticut and Virginia and Pennsylvania. They are calling me upset asking, «where are we going to stay?»
4. Ellen insisted that my guests had cancelled their own reservations. They had not. Later Ellen insisted that one guest called to cancel everyone else’s reservation — problem with Ellen’s story was — none of these people knew each other. Then Ellen said corporate cancelled the reservations. The Best Western Gregory Hotel in Brooklyn just gave me the run around.
4a. Eventually they found rooms for all but one of the guests, who left and drove to the Sheraton in Metro Tech when the size of the room he originally reserved was no longer available.
5. I agreed with the Best Western Gregory Hotel to pay for 3 of my guest’s stay. I had given my credit card number with written instructions that were accepted with my signed contract. The night of the event one of my guests called to inform me that the hotel was asking her for payment. I spoke to the person at the desk who told me — they were not allowed to charge my credit card. Then an odd thing happened — 1 guest’s stay was charged to my credit card — this after I pleaded with the front desk to charge my credit card for the 3 rooms. I am still deeply embarrassed 2 of my guests had to pay for their hotel rooms when I promised them I would take care of it. The guest charged to my card, was not the one who called me from the front desk.
6. Another guest could not make the event and cancelled, the guest knew he was obligated to pay for one night. He was not only charge for one night but for a separate room he never booked for 3 nights. He eventually had to clear it up with his credit card company — as the staff at the hotel refused to correct their error — they double booked him.
The positives at this hotel: the rooms were clean and my guests had a good stay after the reservation system fiasco was partly corrected at the Best Western Gregory Hotel in Brooklyn. The event was a total success.
Bottom Line: Do not stay at the Best Western Gregory Hotel in Brooklyn.

AVOID AT ALL COST!
Booked two separate reservations and needed to cancel within their cancellation policy. Fine so far. have two reservations and two cancellation numbers. Now for the nightmare: they magically created a THIRD reservation for the date that I cancelled and charged me for a no show!!! The apparently did this to several other guests that were part of our group. NOTHING SHORT OF CRIMINAL. My credit card company has credited me back and they STILL continue to fight for a reservation charge I NEVER MADE! BEST WESTERN CORPORATE, ARE YOU LISTENING?

It is definitely not a place I would pay money to stay. I went to an event in the «party room» and it felt like I was in the early 80’s with the décor.
They also served the food in aluminum pans… yes they did. Definitely not worth what was paid for by the party host.

Rooms ok but the hotel’s business practices — SHADY!!! 3 times did they try to bill me for items and services I did not authorize or use!!! These were not authorizations or holds. I was actually charged. When I tried to clear up the final set of extra charges they said they would adjust the bill and they didn’t so now I’m having to dispute it via my credit card company. Watch your bill at check out!!!

Dank. Outdated. Seemed like a layer of cigarette smoke on everything. No air circulation in the very small room. 4^th Ave is very loud. Pluses include the very friendly staff, good coffee in the morning on the lower level and the faint smell of bleach on the sheets. Good location for what I was doing but I wouldn’t stay here again.

I’ve been meaning to write this review for a while now. Stayed for one night in late August. My room was very small, seemed in need of remodeling and new bedding. The location was perfect if you intend on staying local. Overall, a decent place to stay if you plan on not spending much time in your room. Often, we forget to mention the positives, and for this hotel is an employee by the name of Samantha. Samantha was incredibly friendly, professional and helpful not only on the phone when making my reservation, but also in person. She went «above and beyond» to make my stay as pleasant as possible.

After reading some of the older reviews, I was not sure this was the place to stay, but due to a reservation error there was nothing to be found in the city. What a nice discovery! Pleasant, tree-​lined neighborhood, very friendly staff, but more importantly it was clean, quiet, and comfortable. What more can you ask for? It is clearly well run.

The Best Western Gregory recently went under a change in management. All the staff are amiable and quite helpful. The manager, Brian, is especially accommodating and does an incredible job.
The hotel is in a nice location, a block away from many restaurants. The neighborhood has a nice, local & laid-​back vibe.
If you’re looking for a decent place to stay in Bay Ridge, or an alternative to the city’s higher prices, stay here.

I can’t agree with these other reviews. I recently returned to New York on a business trip, my first time back to New York since I moved in 1987. I lived in Bensonhurst for years, and wanted to stay in Brooklyn so I could revisit my old haunts. The hotel is an older facility, but I found everything clean and in good repair. No bugs or any such thing in my room. The room was overlooking 4^th Avenue, yet quiet, except for the occasional rumble of the R train below. The complimentary breakfast was fresh, and a good selection was offered. The location was wonderful for me, as I was able to get to both Manhattan and other areas of Brooklyn quite quickly. Admittedly, I am not a fan of the «luxury» type of hotel, and appreciate a clean, quiet, and modest hotel that offeres good value for the money paid. I have already recommended this hotel to friends travelling in the area, and I am revisiting my long held plans to visit the New York area, including this hotel in my plans. I would also like to mention that the staff was very helpful and friendly, and assisted me with holding both documents and baggage for me while I was at the hotel.

An old building, the rooms are small. Staff was remarkably casual, and not eager.
Nothing wrong with it, but this hotel is just a place to sleep while visiting family in Bay Ridge.
Seems to book up fast.
