Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain

What kind of a review do you write for a place with amazing food, but horrible service? I went here for the first time and ordered the Mr. Potato Head sundae. Phenomenal! I’ve never had anything like it. I have a pretty big sweet tooth, and never thought that potato chips would complement my ice cream so well.
We went at around 8:30pm on a Monday night into the empty restaurant. I was greeted by a waitress who rolled her eyes every time I asked her for something, and laughed at me when I asked for my bill. If the manager is reading this review, please tell Anastasia to treat her customers with some human decency. I was with a date who asked a male waiter to take our picture, and he actually grimaced while taking our photo. Bad vibes. I could hear the employees complain about their dysfunctional dishwasher while I was trying to enjoy my sundae. It seemed like they didn’t want to be there, and that they felt like their customers were a burden.
Overall the restaurant has a lot of ambiance with great food and a Soup Nazi vibe. I really think the employees who handled us that night should wear those Jerk t-​shirts they sell themselves.

The desert is really what it’s all about. The menu is flourishing with amazing treats and amazing atmosphere for children, they also have board games and stuff in the back. The only problem for me is the customer service. We got seated and got our order but the workers never really came after to ask us how our orders where going or when we had to get the check to leave. We had to get up to call them over so that we were able to politely leave. Overall great place with amazing deserts.

Dessert wasn’t good enough for their shitty service. We sat at our table for 15 minutes after finishing before anyone came up to us and had to ask for the check more than once.

About a 20 minute wait for a table on a Saturday night right before closing. The place itself reeks of vintage items which is cool. The desserts were nothing special here. Just quite expensive. I rather save money and buy ice cream at the market.

This quaint little ice cream parlor totally takes you back in time with their formica bar counter and wooden bookshelves with old school memorabilia. They currently only have several ice cream flavors right now — vanilla, chocolate and peppermint (no strawberry, sadly). But based on pictures they used to have coffee and strawberry cream flavors as well, hopefully they’ll bring those back someday.
Despite their short list of ice cream flavors, they have a menu packed with so many different sundaes and soda creams that you can barely choose. Our eyes were bigger than our stomaches the first time we went, we both got a sundae of our own which was a delicious decision but not the smartest. Their full sizes are huge and should be shared amongst two people so I would recommend a half size sundae if you are eating it on your own. The hubs got a Sir-​Twix-​a-​Lot which he said was very good and I had a regular banana sundae which was also very tasty. The next time we went back I got a baby sunday (small scoop with whipped cream and a cherry on top for $ 5) which was just the right amount for me and the hubs had a Mini Sir-​Twix-​a-​Lot.
It’s a decently sized place so we’ve been able to grab a counter spot or small table every time we’ve visit. This would be a great place to grab ice cream with a small group 5 – 6 people because they also back a back room.

I’ve ate a lot of ice cream in my life, this place is definitely up there as one of my favorite spots. Might be because I’m walking distance or might be because the ice cream is just that food. Either way, this spot is amazing.
I love eating at Brooklyn Farmacy because of the atmosphere, all the décor and everything just really gives me good vibes. It reminds me of all the soda fountains they had back in the day.
My favorite specialty sundae and the one that everybody should try is the Mr. Potato Head. Ice cream and potato chips, what can go wrong (Besides gaining weight).
Overall, I recommend this place to everybody. Nice service, good vibes, and even better ice cream. Great hangout spot.

Setting: an old pharmacy and soda fountain shop– the shelves are decorated with tools, foods, and other goods of the times. There are tables and about half a dozen stools at the bar. The décor is 50s and beautiful. The staff are warm, friendly teens/​30s.
Eats: the focus is on ice cream– sundaes, scoops, milk shakes, and egg creams. The peanut butter cup sundae is served on a slab of house made peanut butter l, which is thick, grainy, and stick-​to-​your-​mouth good. I love that you can order a half– I tennis ball sized scoop. The sandwiches are great as well. The green is fresh mozzarella with sautéed greens and pesto on toasted multigrain bread (delicious but lacked salt). The pastrami is loaded with thick and crisp pastrami.
Overall, this is a fun, themed, restaurant that I would bring a friend or sit alone at the counter.

The Breakfast in Bed (biscuit, coffee ice cream, bacon, bit of maple syrup, whipped cream) is my new favorite dessert. The ice cream here is above average but not outstanding — the combinations of flavors, however, are ingenious, though the menu is ridiculously large. Everything looked really good, especially the affogato and the ice cream sandwiches. Props for the impressive array of puns in the item names.
The atmosphere is fantastic (especially if you’re coming at an off hour when there won’t be an overwhelming number of families). There are large group tables in the back, as well as some board games (pretty beat up, but you can still make Pictionary work).
Definitely pricey, but a really fun dessert spot to walk to after having dinner down in Red Hook.

Farmacy is delicious and adorable inside. The service is amazing and their menu is very diverse for an ice cream and soda shop! They even sell cute little knick knacks. I love the old days feel to the place and had a delicious experience here! My –1 star is only because the shop is small and we had no opportunity to sit down but it’s so worth it nonetheless!!!

Walking into this place is like taking a step back in time. With wooden walls, marble floors, and random typewriters situated all over the place brings you back to the saloon era. It’s definitely a cute place to bring a date, get to know them and even play board games with them (they have a bunch no need to bring).
Our party of 5 tried out a few of their recommendation. Some were spectacular and some were close (but no cigar!). My friends got 2 drinks to share: a root beer float and butterbeer. The root beer float tasted like a regular root beer float with a generous scoop of ice cream on top. You also know it’s good if the float doesn’t stop overflowing the whole time you’re trying to drink it and that’s what happened. The butterbeer was not my cup of tea. The waiter warned us that it won’t taste like what we imagine so it wasn’t their fault. It basically tasted like warmed caramel water (yeah, gross).
Onwards to the sundae, the main attraction.
We ordered 2: more is s’more and the affugazi affogato. Both had great presentation with a dallop of whip cream on top of both and a huge graham cracker on top of the s’more. My favorite was definitely the affogato. There was a shot of espresso on the top that you could pour on top of the sundae and once the espresso dropped down to the cake at the bottom, it was mhmm good. Basically, that made the dessert.
Would I come back here again? Absolutely. I would like to try out their other sundaes and possibly sodas. They also specialize in egg creams but I’m not a fan so I can’t tell you if it’s good or not. You come here for the ambience and their decedent desserts, not for artisan sundaes. For people that say they are better sundaes places with better flavors out there are missing the point. They are supposed to be an old school dessert saloon and they aced just that.

Sorry but I disliked this place.
Came here for dessert specifically and was disappointed. The milkshakes tasted watered down. The ice cream itself had no flavour and neither did the brownie.
Gave an extra star for the cool, retro look and the fact that they had board games.

If Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain were in Indiana, it’d be a five-​star restaurant for sure.
The ambience here is great – it really does look like an old pharmacy with a soda fountain – stamped tin ceiling and all. The ice cream seems to be made here and is pretty good. I had the peanut butter sundae, which also has homemade peanut butter. The chocolate ice cream wasn’t overly sweet and had a nice bitterness to contrast with the saltiness of the peanut butter. A+ sundae.
The sandwich I had, on the other hand, wasn’t great. The biscuit was very solid – I don’t mean tasty, I mean that it was dense. Microwaved eggs, the ham was okay… I’d probably skip this if I went back.

Brooklyn Farmacy is a neat American retro café. The atmosphere is fairly similar to Eddie’s in Forest Hills. I like the roomy seating in the back as well as all of the board games that were available (though some of the games were incomplete).
I ordered a grilled cheese and a chocolate egg cream. They were part of the after school 3−2−1 deal offered to students during the week between 3 and 5. The grilled cheese was $ 3 and the egg cream was $ 1. Two scoops of ice cream are also available for $ 2. It was a fantastic deal!
My girlfriend opted for a house made red velvet Twinkie sundae. This was one sugar packed sundae! It came with chocolate shavings, fresh whipped cream, chocolate ice cream, vanilla ice cream, banana ice cream, hot fudge, and (of course) a cherry on top. It was one of the best sundaes that I’ve had. Yum!
Overall, it’s a real fun place to feel like a kid!

Ordered: Twinkety split, Grilled cheese, and Chocolate egg cream
Pros – The restaurant had a cool, old school vibe. The sundae had a nice mix of flavors (3 different ice creams, chocolate, homemade whipped cream). Very fresh! The grilled cheese was standard, but still a great one-​very cheesy in the best way possible.
Cons – The Twinkie was slightly heavy – more like a cake. This was disappointing because the Twinkie component was the main reason I ordered it.

If you’re in New York, you know you’ll be walking. A lot. But making our way on foot from Manhattan to Brooklyn is a tiring task for anyone. We quickly found ourselves with sore feet and more than 2 hours of free time. We stopped by Brooklyn Farmacy for a snack and it was one of our best decisions that day.
The environment is unforgettable. The past couple days we were fighting the NYC crowds and now suddenly we’re transported back in time into a quiet diner within a calm neighborhood. Occasionally a family with children will scamper in and, with eyes wider than their mouths, will try to take down their snack by themselves. And of course they do. They always do.
We shared the Affugazi Affogato. The size and amount was perfect for sharing and it was a dessert for kings. Delicious coffee flavors, sweet ice cream, and the texture was finished off perfectly with the vanilla cake. Seriously, who doesn’t love ice cream and cake, especially all at once? Yes, we only had this one thing, but first impressions are essentially do or die, and they certainly delivered.
Remember when I said we had 2 hours of free time? We ended up spending just about all of it in Brooklyn Farmacy. There’s plenty to see: mainly antiques and old children’s books. We relived old card and board games as well. One of the few times we were allowed to just relax and live in the moment. Glancing back at the kids at the counter, I guess we aren’t so different after all.
This place is truly timeless; if you’re in the area, don’t pass this up.

I read about this place on a list of the best ice cream shops in NY and so while my mom was visiting me last summer, we did a Brooklyn day. Coming here was a priority. I’m so glad it was. The Brooklyn Farmacy has some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had. We got an affogato to share and I wasn’t sure if we would need another something but it was HUGE! I’m so glad we didn’t order a second one or we wouldn’t have been able to finish!
It’s been over a year and while I can’t go into detail about the food even though I remember it being delicious I can tell you the ambiance is unforgettable. It feels like you’re taking a step back in time. It’s so adorable inside and the knick knacks around the shop are so funky and cool. We spent a ton of time just checking all the stuff out!
I’m really sad I didn’t get another opportunity to come here while I lived in New York but I definitely will make sure I stop by here again the next time I’m in the city!

Sweet, sweet nostalgia. If you’re anything like me and love most things related to the times of yore, you will really be into this place. The ambience and décor make you feel like you’ve been tele-​transported back into the world war 2 era, in the best way. Dim lighting, old and quaint appliances, and the tiled floors all add to the appeal of when ice cream parlors also doubled as pharmacies (hence the name). Servers are very friendly, as well.
Now for the edible treats; you can select many innovative sundae/​pastry combinations and you can also create your own combos. I totally recommend the banana ice cream, the Flyin’ Hawaiin, the Sir Twixalot and the Warm Brownie Sundae.
Oh! And they have complimentary board games to play while you enjoy your stay. Do yourself a favor and visit this place, please ;).

I was super worried that this was a bad idea after looking at other peoples order. It looked like the amount of calories I should be consuming in a day. I could only imagine the additional miles I had to do the following day. BUT it was so worth it. I wish they had the option to order everything in a half size but they don’t. My gal pal ordered half the size of Mr potato head and I ordered the Affugazi affogato. We both requested NO WHIP CREAM, which I think really helped. I was very pleased with both of our choices because IT WAS NOT disgustingly sweet. I finished my full bowl.
We also had a whoppie pie, which I knew wouldn’t be to die for, it was super sweet and it reminded me of hostess type cupcakes.
Tip — you can request to change the ice cream flavor so don’t feel tied down! There were so many other sundaes I wanted to try because of the ice cream flavor and combination. They are very accommodating!
We sat at the bar, which I highly recommend because that’s where the action happens! You get to stare and count down for your order to be made. The only downside is their sanitary level. The people making your ice cream are also the cashiers. money is not clean.

This place is magic. I got a little verklempt thinking bout how my grandma would’ve loved this place. Perhaps it would have taken her back to a time when places like this were the norm. Original wood millwork, floors, ceilings. a well preserved time capsule. The charm factor is through the roof. As genuine as humanly possible.
It was a joy to walk in and enjoy a scratch-​made hibiscus soda with a scoop of creamy ice cream, not too sweet and plenty of foam. The whipped cream on my son’s ice cream had flecks of real vanilla bean. My hub’s blueberry soda wasn’t electric blue sweetness but rather derived from real blueberries. Service friendly but it was too busy there for super attentiveness.
The A/​C units couldn’t keep up so ice cream served double duty of tasting great and cooling us off. The hipster factor is off the charts here as one may expect due to the neighborhood. Wanted to get my son a tee but the kiddie shirts ran $ 25. Yowza. Pass!
Totally and utterly charmed by this place and fully intend on having one of those kick-​ass looking donuts next time.

I’ve only been here once and I love it!
Brooklyn Farmacy is a nice spot for brunch, late afternoon snack, or some insanely delicious sundaes. The staff here are quite friendly. I really enjoy the vintage, 1960s-​like atmosphere here.
My boyfriend, friends, and I came here for dessert after dinner in Brooklyn. Since they came here often, they knew exactly what they wanted to order.
I ordered the Affugazi Affogato which was absolutely delightful. It was like chocolate and espresso heaven! I really enjoyed the large scoop of vanilla ice cream encased in the hardened chocolate shell. The chocolate shell was difficult and almost impossible to break through. The two shots of espresso was good and powerful stuff!
Our friend ordered the Warm Brownie Sundae with Coconut Ice Cream which looked amazing and massive! Full of chocolate and brownie deliciousness!
They also ordered the Snowbird Ice Cream Float which was a pineapple soda and coconut ice cream — almost like a piña colada!
I really, really enjoyed our time and experience at Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain. I am glad my friends introduced and brought us here. I am definitely making another visit before the summer ends to indulge on their amazing sundaes!
