Brooklyn Infusion Center

If you are a patient at MSKCC and need a break from the frenzy of their Midtown and Upper East Side sites, the Brooklyn Infusion Center is a real gem. Patients can set up blood draws, infusions, and injections through their doctor’s office; hour-​long individual acupuncture sessions scheduled through MSK Integrative Medicine Service are also available to patients and the general public. The waiting time at these locations is much less than compared to the other sites, however, if you receive any therapies requiring a CBC before treatment is administered, you would have to come the day before for a blood draw. There is also an adorable therapy dog named Phoebe who visits patients on most Tuesday or Wednesdays – just ask at the desk!
The Center is very calm and clean, with several individual bathrooms, about a dozen individual therapy rooms, and a common area. If you bring your own food, there is a fridge and microwave. The location is easy to find, which makes food delivery a snap. As another reviewer mentioned, each room is very comfortable and everything can be controlled at the touch screen station attached to the therapy chair – lighting, temperature, calling a nurse, and also connection to the internet for Skype sessions, watching streamed TV/​movies, etc. There is also guest wifi available if you BYOD.

The semi-​new MSK Brooklyn Infusion Center is wonderful. It is a beautiful center, carefully designed to be as pleasant as a chemotherapy infusion center can possibly be. The location displays art for the enjoyment of the community and anyone passing by the large windows looking into the big open space in front. The staff here, as with most of MSK, is friendly and awesome. The center has a very state-​of –the-​art feel. When you enter you can check yourself in for your appointment on a big touch screen, but usually someone is sitting at the reception desk with a big smile, ready to greet you. Once you walk back to the treatment area you begin to take in the beauty of the artfully designed space. Wood floors, etched glass doors, waterfall element, plants, and comfortable lounge-​area seating make the location inviting for patients and their guests. There are about a dozen (or maybe 20?) private treatment rooms, each including a seating area for your visitors and a fully adjustable chair for the patient. You can sit up to read, put your feet up, or recline entirely and take a nap! The chair also features an attached touch screen where you can access the internet, watch tv, video chat, order food, or call the nurse. If that doesn’t keep you entertained you can make use of one of their iPads or travel out of your room to the couches, the library, or communal table. As with other treatment sites for MSK there is also a pantry area where you can get snacks and beverages. The center provides several patient services during the week such as acupuncture and group talks. I receive treatment in the afternoon during the week and on more than one occasion have found myself to be the only patient there, the center must still be a bit of a hidden gem. I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone who would find the location more convenient than the main hospital or outpatient buildings to make use of it.
