C Town Supermarket

Pretty much the worst place to shop! This place is over priced and barely has anything in stock. Pretty much everyone there is so rude, from the guy standing at the front counter to the cashiers. Hate that this is the supermarket by my house so when I’m in desperate need have to go there. If you can avoid this supermarket you should.

The cashiers in this c town are so rude fam smh. One of the cashiers gave me such attitude today. I just wanted to buy some bread and ham smh. Did me dirty fam.

Our go-​to grocery store in the neighborhood– part because of location, part because it’s actually a nice little grocery store. Can be a little pricey at times if you’re not careful ($ 5 Oreos!) but pay attention to the specials and you can usually can come out pretty well. Beer selection not too bad as well. Cashiers not going to go out of their way for small talk but are efficient and do their job well. Haven’t interacted with the managers but they always seems to be present, helping customers and in tune with the goings on of the business.

This review is only for the deli and its personnel. The worst customer service and twice now they can’t get the order right. Ask for a sandwich and they just begin making it no acknowledgement or questions as to what ingredients you would like. I asked for cheese and was given eyes to kill as if it was too much work. Very disappointed given the market is great. This has happened twice with two different men behind the deli counter. Poor customer service.

More times than not, the sale prices do not show up at checkout. So, checking out is never a fun process. It always involves three additional, time consuming steps:
1) You have to SCRUTINIZE the LED screen at the register which indicates the price of each item as it is scanned in.
2) You have to report any wrongly priced items to the cashier. She then has to leave her register and walk through the store, hunting for the sale sign indicating the sale price in question in order to confirm the error.
3) Next, the cashier has to hunt a manger down to authorize the price correction.
This gets REALLY tedious. It happens on most of my visits. My friends have reported the same experience. I really wish that they would start being more careful with their accounting.
The staff is great and the selections of food and beverages are plentiful. But going through the stress of making sure that you aren’t being ripped off at the register each and every time you shop here makes the overall experience a drag. (Other states have «scanner laws» that strongly curb the frequency of these errors– the law forces the merchant to pay the customer a fee for each incorrectly scanned item. With all the over regulation in New York City, why don’t we have a law like this? It’s long overdue. Call your city councilman.)

Yes, it is crowded as the aisles are narrow. Yes, the produce and fresh fruit could be fresher but that is why I buy same at a tiny fruit and veg stand on 77^th and 5^th.
BUT, the absolute incredible service at C-​Town on 5^th Avenue and 77^th Street is amazing. The owner has hired an expert team. The cashiers are friendly and kind.
The aisle workers are always at the ready to bring down goods on high shelves and have often gone into the basement to bring up cases of seltzer which I buy, well, by the cases.
It is not a win all but isn’t it so lovely to shop in a place where people want to learn your name and who honestly care when they ask, «How are you?»
It is a «mom and pop» disguised as a chain.
Other than the fresh fruit and vegs, I have had great success in buying, on sale, many other goods.
And, the one time I needed to return an item, not because it was faulty but because I had purchased the wrong item, I was greeted by the manager with a smile on his face, who said, «Of course, just exchange it.»
Then there are delivery guys… top notch as well.
All in all, a great experience.

November 2015: Great cashiers; friendly and fast. Still unimpressed with produce: box of mandarin oranges — ¹⁄₃ moldy. Ew. Is the produce here just poor quality? Most people would pay more for better produce. Update: March 15, 2015-​I bought grated parmesan cheese here today. When I got home and took the top off, I saw the plastic seal had been partially ripped off. Ew. I walked back to exchange it: I don’t appreciate being interrogated by a cashier who actually asked me if I opened it myself. Considering I was exchanging it for an identical item, I don’t see what the point of that would have been. She left and came back and told me my exchange was approved. No apology. Gee, thanks. Considering I have shopped in their store weekly for the last year, I find the bad attitude really unnecessary. Try apologizing next time. I may be inclined to actually come back and buy more sub-​par cheese. /​/​/​The cashiers know what they are doing and the manager is helpful but as far as selection, there is not a lot of variety and it is sub-​par. The fruit and vegetables are low quality /​end of life– garlic soft inside, oranges tasteless, apples bready; the meat is low grade — I bought a london broil and had to throw it away it was so tough and tasteless;overall, like many markets, there is an abundance of junk food. The cheese selection is terrible. Not one imported parmesan. But it is clean and friendly. The Unilocaler who said it is like ‘Whole Foods’ is grossly inaccurate: C-​Town is nothing like Whole Foods.

This is my favorite super market in the area. It’s not huge, but they have a lot of stock despite this. It is clean and well-​organized. They have a nice range of foods for people who prefer organic products, or have special dietary needs. But, mostly what I like is that the staff is consistently friendly and helpful, and after you’ve shopped there a couple of times they know you. Even though this is technically a chain, it is run like a small town business with all the friendliness and customer service (and pride in their work) that go along with that.

Best supermarket in on 5^th Avenue! Clean, well stocked and unlike Met Foods on 82^nd — you don’t have to watch them ring you up and try to over charge you for things that you think are on sale. The three brothers who own this store are the nicest guys. My only complaint — PLEASE change your music! Seriously… if I notice you’re playing the same 50’s stuff over and over it’s got to drive your employees insane.

I cannot recommend this place enough. They have almost everything I ever need. Owning a restaurant across the street they have saved me quite a few times when I forgot to get something on my weekely shopping spree to Restaurant Depot. They have a huge variety of food, beer, cleaning products you name it they have it.
The store is family owned and dad is often seen keeping an eye on his sons! Their prices are comparable to other neighborhood markets and they always have sales going on. They recognize me every time I come in, take special care to ensure a firm handshake is given and my daughters are honorary cashiers. It almost feels like we are family.
Since opening the have become our nightly stop right after work and if we don’t bring the girls they are concerned! They are truly a caring neighborhood market. This place in my opinion is irreplaceable.
This is exactly the kind of place that says Bay Ridge — local, honest, caring and meets almost all needs with a smile and proud to say they are my friends.

It says a lot when an owner or manager takes the time to reply to a review and expresses a real commitment to improving customer experiences. I am giving C-​Town an extra star for the kind way that the owner reached out to me upon reading about my frustration with customer service in the past. His sincerity was evident in assuring me that the issue was important to him and would be addressed. On my most recent visits to C-​Town I have had far better times. The people on the floor have been very helpful and assisted me in finding the products I’m looking for and the cashiers have been ready with friendly greetings and congenial service at the register and bagging stations.
Aside from the improved service, I have to reiterate that C-​Town has a great selection of items and a wonderfully clean and organized store. I look forward to continuing to visit for many of my grocery needs.

The one idiot behind the deli counter has messed up my order three times in a row now. Will never go to the deli again. Perhaps this person needs to open his stupid fucking ears once in a while. No wonder he works in a super market…

I don’t know who has written reviews before but this place is overpriced and has few selections — the Foodtown has more to buy and the Keyfood is much cheaper

Great beer selection (back of the second aisle from the left), but most of it’s not refrigerated. People who work there aren’t too enthusiastic though.

This place gets 5 stars from me. The staff is really nice the selection is very good, It’s more than your run of the mill grocery market. You’ll walk out with some tidbits you didn’t come in to buy but you’re glad you found them!

So far this new supermarket is excellent. They have a wide selection of healthy international products. The supermarket is not large but alot of thinking
has gone into selecting the products. The store also offers organic produce and other staples. It is clean and the owner & those who work in various positions are eager to please and friendly. Great addition to the neighborhood.
