I could not be happier with my experience. The optometrist was phenomenal and — much to my surprise– improved my correction! I walked all over Park Slope reading menus and store displays that I used to just walk past b/​c there really was no point in trying to read them. And Shannelle, the frames expert is no less than that… expert! She found the perfect frames for me based on just a brief conversation we had before I started my appointment with the optometrist. She nailed it on the first frame choice! Love this place. I hope the staff here never leaves. I know, selfish of me.

I can’t comment on how this business deals with insurance, as I submit claims to Flex Plan for reimbursement after the fact. But when I was desperate to replace a pair of particularly nice sunglasses that were stolen from my bag day before Christmas Eve, and I was about to embark on long overseas trip in four days, this business got me two pair of sunglasses with all the trimmings in about three days turnaround. And day after Christmas. I told them I literally only had that much time and the salesman John did a great job of picking frames complimenting my face. In a follow up visit to replace another pair, another employee, Ed, was also courteous and quick though I have yet to pick up that pair. Are they expensive? Yes… but I just can’t deal with the up-​down-​in-​out of Classic Specs or Warby Parker at this busy time so Cohen’s gets a thumbs up from me.

I worked with Ed and just picked up a pair of glasses and it was the most efficient and the most quality customer service I have received in a long time. He was polite, friendly and considerate. I will definitely be shopping with Ed and Cohen’s for all glasses in the future!

Called in asking about a certain frame, walked in, got the frames I wanted quickly and the guy John was super helpful and kind. I’m glad I came here for my new glasses. :)

After publishing my review, the manager of this store called me. He explained that he spoke to his employees and agree with my take on what happened. He told me one employee told him that I got a «discount with insurance» (which he agreed with me, makes no sense. Insurance covers a portion of the purchase; that is what insurance is. It is not some sort of a coupon.) and the other employee told him that he offered this deal but couldn’t do it in the end. The manager said, this was promised to you and it was unfair that it was just taken away. He fully agreed with me that it seemed the employees were just trying to get my business by lying to me. He told me he would not only order me 1 month of contacts for free, he would throw in another pair because of the unpleasant experience. I felt this was very generous and kind. When I went to pick up the contacts, the woman in the store (who told me I got a discount with insurance) complimented my shoes but as soon as she realized who I was, she was cold and rude and wouldn’t look me in the eye. I am sure I got her in trouble with her boss. Oh well. This store has higher than usual prices but I am pleased with the end result of this experience. At least the manager understands what customer service is.

Buyer beware. They will promise you the world, make you wait weeks and then when nothing fits they will charge you more to fix it. Ask a smart tough question and just listen to the double talk. NEVER AGAIN.

Horrendous. I booked an appointment for 6pm. I live literally 3 blocks away in Park Slope. At 5:55, leaving the door, I received a call. This is how it went.
Man on phone: Hi, you have an appointment at 6
Me: Yes, I know, I’m just walking over
Mann on phone: If you’re not here at 6 on the dot the dr will leave.
Me: Well I’m three blocks away. I’ll be there at 6 or at latest a few minutes after.
Man on phone: If You’re here at 6:02 the pharmacist will leave
Me: Um, what?
Man on phone: Yes. 6 on the dot. That’s it.
Me, turning around: Don’t worry about it, I’m taking my business elsewhere
This was my first and only experience with Cohens. Total disdain for customers and obviously the staff there hate their jobs. Lucky escape for me.

I think this place is a little overpriced for glasses, lenses, etc. And it always feels like they tack on extra charges that you’re not quite expecting. That said, Shanelle is AWESOME! She has a great visual sense and a lot of experience with fitting frames to face shapes. With her help I found a pair of frames that were a very different shape than I would have thought I needed but which instantly looked 1000x better than any other frames I’ve ever worn. She really understands face shape, eye shape and frames. Go to this location for Shanelle (if nothing else).

Took my boyfriend here because it was around the corner from our house. The first question he asked, even before trying the glasses on, was if they took his insurance. The salesman said yes (note the use of salesman, here. I rarely use this term because it’s degrading.)
He tried on a few pairs that sort of resembled the glasses he had before. After about 5 pairs. The salesman decided to finally give suggestions on what might be a good match. We weren’t finding much.
Finally, I spotted a good pair and had him try it on. He liked it. We put it aside and were introduced to the clown… I mean… optician…
He came out of the back wearing the fake at Hermes belt I’ve ever seen. It immediately put me on edge. Anyone who is that obsessed with money is not trustworthy. After they went in for the exam, I noticed that the fish tank was completely empty. It was clear that they were trying, and failing, to appear like a trustworthy family practice.
When they finished, they quoted us the most ridiculous price I’ve ever seen, and then told us that he had to purchase them today, as his insurance worked as a bundle, and could only be used on glasses the same day as the exam. We refused to go along with it, and left to call the insurance company.
They explained that the «professionals» at cohens never told us they were out of network, and what they told us about a «bundle» wasn’t true.
We immediately cancelled the order.
We took our business to urban optical, instead.

I have my glasses now for about a year and a half. Yes, they were expensive, but they are designer lenses that look good on me and I got progressive lenses with all the bells and whistles. This is my first time buying glasses, so I went with it. Yes, they suggest you can buy this and that, but ultimately it’s up to you to agree to what you want.
With my new Dior progressives, they gave me a nice pair of Channel sunglasses for free. Not prescription, but very pretty and I’m bummed because I misplaced them last week.
The best thing, however, is that any time I need an adjustment on my lenses, I walk in and they take care of it pronto with no problem whatsoever. I must have gone in 7 times already and they tweak them until they fit me perfectly again. This is something that I really appreciate. To me, that is good customer service.
I would give them five stars, except for the fact that my glasses were expensive, but again, I love them, so…

The merchandise is of poor quality and way over priced and the salesperson is always trying to get you to spend hundreds of dollars for glasses you don’t need and the online advertising doesn’t apply to them — stay away from them and go around the corner and get what you need without the pressure or lies.

I had a $ 20 dollar coupon I printed off the website. When I arrived there was an issue where my coupon didn’t apply, because this particular location is franchised and only honors the coupon after purchase, which is different from other cohen’s. At first I was angry and upset and disappointed about the situation. HOWEVER, after a few minutes of fuming and being bummed, Channel, went above and beyond to correct the situation. Like above and beyond. Rarely ever do I change my reviews, but rarely ever does someone go the extent. I had to change my review and actually felt dumb for being upset. They were kind and understanding. I greatly appreciate what they have done for me because I don’t think they had to do anything.

STAY AWAY!!! I was warned by others, however I still chose this place only because it is close to my work. I have 1199 union optical benefits which provides an eye exam and a pair of glasses. I went here and I must say that the eye exam well done and thourough. The the trouble begins… before it was over… I was asked to pay an additional $ 200 plus dollars to get a pair of glasses that had no extras and very non designer frames. I have always received a new pair of glasses with my union benefit. It has not changed and this was the only time where I was not able to get my glasses. That was an unexpected cost which I cannot afford. There are dozens of places where I could get glasses at a reasonable cost. I waited until my insurance was billed before I went back to ask for my prescription and question again about the glasses. The customer service rep,…a woman with an Afro and black glasses was so rude and inconsiderate, I thought that maybe cameras would jump out. I asked for my rx on paper and after disappearing and chatting with whomever was in the back of the store… she came to me a said that I must pay $ 200 plus. I informed her that was for glasses that I do not intend on purchasing. Then she came back and said she had no record payment for my my eye exam. I offered the suggestion to contact my union for as I have the confirmation of payment. After checking with whomever was in the back of the store once again, she threw my prescrption at me with a resounding …“here.”… I could not believe the poor attitude of someone who respresnts this company. RUDE SCAMMERS… no glasses and bad service…

Terrible, terrible experience the first time I went there.
The optometrist had me try a different brand other than my previous prescription. After I didn’t like the new brand, they refused to order trial lenses for the brand I prefer. Worse still, they said they would get my brand at one appointment and they denied that when I followed up (and hadn’t heard from them in weeks). In fact they were indignant.
I finally went in and they gave me my new prescription with my favored brand but without a follow-​up visit, because I had no trials to check.
Finally, they did not verify with a third party seller within the allotted one business day they have to do so. I had problems with the other seller and would have liked them to do their job to help me get the right prescription.

I’ve had the worst experience at this place so far. The customer service was horrible!
I went inside to ask a question about the coupon but my questions just didn’t seem good enough. The girl working there was rude, and to think I would go here to get my new pair of glasses. In a million dreams would I come to Cohen’s Fashion, just a few avenues down Optical Illusion employee were at least welcoming!

Friendly & helpful customer service. Walked in and was immediately greeted and helped by Ed. In no time, was in for an eye exam (no wait) with the pleasant female doctor. Ed was great, he helped me pick out frames (even joked that he’s never seen anyone make a choice as fast as I did), find the right price range and had my new glasses ready for pickup in under half an hour.

I purchased 2 pairs of sunglasses here. I like the manager and a young lady named ‘Chanel’. She fixed my glasses after they got mangled. It may of been my fault but she just fixed em up and was quite pleasant about the ordeal. I also like their selection. What more can I ask for. But I also like ‘eyes on slope too’ (and the head guy Is sooo yummmo –So now in park slope if you ck out both places your sure to get that great pair. We came a long way here in da Slope.

Horrible and rude customer service. They try to rip you off in any way possible. When I asked for a copy of my prescription she said I had to pay extra and she didn’t want to give it to me. She told me now that I’m not ordering my contacts from cohens I have to pay extra. She had a nasty attitude. I had to get my insurance company involved. Never again.

Avoid this place at all costs.
This was the most unprofessional and inexcusable experience I have ever had at any retail provider, ever. I have some vision issues, and when I began to explain what my visit was about to the woman behind the counter, she proceeded to verbally assault me and treat me like an absolute idiot. She insulted me several times about my eye health.
Worse yet, called the next day to speak to the manager about the way I was treated, and got absolutely no reaction from the manager. She simply asked if I wanted to reschedule my appointment to a day when the nasty counter lady wasn’t there. I told her that her establishment would not be getting my business ever again, and she didn’t care about that either.
Save yourself the time, the anger, and the insults – go somewhere else for your vision needs.

Courteous from the moment you step in the store. I’ve been wearing the same Dolce and Gabbana glasses for the past 7 years, but it was about that time to get an eye-​exam. I received a very thorough exam from Dr. Dolgon [I hope I spelled it right]. I wasn’t surprised to learn that I needed a new Rx for lenses. The technician, Ed appeased my urge to try on a frame that I adored in the display; but he never pressured me into buying them. New lenses were on order and once received, I returned to store and the lenses were set into my older DG frames a few days later. The counter help from Elaine was completely friendly and professional.
I did have a few questions between my insurance coverage and the services offered and it was cleared up satisfactory by a personal call from the Manager, Joey. He explained in ophthalmologist and professional terms and cleared up my issues. The store and the manager surprisingly offered a second set of glasses at no charge, Hey, who couldn’t use a pair of back-​up glasses?
I was very satisfied with the service.
