History

Established in 2006.

Math-teacher-turned-designer Karen Patwa founded Dangerous Mathematicians to conceptually combine mathematics and fashion. Her designs blend traditionally masculine and feminine styles together in a sophisticated line of custom-designed suits.

An awning emblazoned with the words Dangerous Mathematicians first appeared in 2006 on Rivington Street in Downtown Manhattan. Karen’s mission was to celebrate intelligence, individualism, and creativity of women. She created a space for innovators from scientists to artists to gather, brainstorm, and dream.

New York Magazine selected Karen as one of 2008’s «Reasons to Love New York.» Karen crafted a red silk lace-up gown for the Emmy Awards to be worn by Sharon Angela of the Sopranos, and a custom wedding gown for Carla Christofferson.

Dangerous Mathematicians turned its focus to tailored clothing in 2008, after Karen designed her first wo bridal pant suits. Today, Dangerous Mathematicians remains on the forefront of bridal suit design.
