Dr Andrew G Oliphant

Next renewal, I’m changing my insurance so I can go back to Dr. Oliphant. He’s done great work on my teeth over the past 3 years and has always been accommodating, professional, and pleasant. He’s mindful of how expensive this work can be out of pocket; I never feel pressured to do work but he’s very clear about what’s going on with your teeth. Jeanette at the front desk is organised and cheery. I love this place!

I first went to Dr. Oliphant 20 years ago and he was great (to top it of we are both guitarists and music lovers). I was recently looking for a dentist that was in the neighborhood, after checking out two on Beverly Rd., the first one was dimly lit, had dirty pink walls and wood paneling that looked like it was from 1980, the dentist (who wasn’t in) didn’t even have a business card, NEXT, the second one which was directly across the street, had a plexiglass barrier dividing the waiting area from the secretary and the dentist. In fact I had to slip my insurance card under the glass, «What is this a bank ?», NEXT … I got in the car and thought «Oliphant, I wonder if he is still there? «and lo and behold he was. During my visit even my dental phobia was gone. I am very pleased. I referred my mom, my nephew and even took my 7 year old son .I also get to listern to WBGO on the radio, that works for me !!

I ended up here a few years ago when my husband had an unbearable toothache. I was new to Brooklyn, and a friend who lived in the neighborhood referred me to Dr. Oliphant. My husband went and Dr. Oliphant gave him a root canal on the spot. My husband hasn’t had any tooth problems since. Since then, we have gone for all of our dentistry needs. Dr. Oliphant is thourough, communicative, and fast (not rushed, but efficient). His office is plain and simple and has what he needs to get the job done. My daughter has been with me on various occasions for my teeth cleanings, and the office staff is friendly to her and accomodating. If you are looking for a friendly, effective, local dentist who has been in the area for decades — and as long as you don’t need any fancy shmancy accomodations in the waiting area — then Dr. Oliphant is your guy.

Dr. Oliphant has been a God sent in my life. Exactly a month ago, I was involved in an accident that left me with a broken jaw and 5 broken teeth one of which was in the front and very noticeable. The Drs. at my hospital where I had my jaws wired shut, wanted me to wait 3 weeks until I had a temporary cap put in. I contacted Dr. Oliphant who managed to fit me into his busy schedule, and not only did he put a temporary filling in, but he took the nerve out of the remaining tooth as well as cleaning up my remaining teeth that weren’t able to be brushed while I had my mouth wired. He assured me he’s gonna take care of my remaining teeth once I get the rest of my wires cut. He’s not only a dentist, he’s a human being!

I had a ton of work to get done on my teeth after not having been to the dentist for nearly 8 years — lack of dental insurance will do that to you. After purchasing a pre-​paid insurance plan, which is better than nothing, I decided to take the plunge and start getting that work done. Dr. Oliphant’s office was in my network and close to my neighbourhood, so I chose him as my dentist and off I went. Bonus points because he looks exactly like my childhood dentist, Dr. Blitzstein, but that’s neither here nor there.
The office, as many have noticed, is pretty basic — no state-​of-​the-​art bells and whistles like you’d expect in some more exclusive Manhattan places, but that hardly matters. It’s clean and professional, which is all you really need, and the work Dr. Oliphant does is top notch, which means more than any fancy BS some of the more high-​priced offices try to charge you more for. He makes the experience pain-​free and explains everything he’s doing, plus he asked me what dental issues of the ones they discovered in my x-​rays at my first cleaning that I’d like to deal with first. No one shamed me for my oral hygiene or for not having taken care of the issues earlier — he’s there to make your smile better and it makes extensive work like this a LOT easier to go through.
The receptionist is friendly, as well, and they never keep you waiting after your appointment time (since I am habitually early for everything, I always turn up early and subsequently have started my appointment early because of it both times) and I’ve just had all-​around good experiences with Dr. Oliphant and his team every time I’ve been (and I’m sure I will every time I go back. I really like this place and can’t recommend it enough.

I went to this dentist because it was the one in my area. I had an overall great experience, and I think he did great work on my teeth. True, the aesthetics of the office are not the most updated in the world, but the equipment is up to date. I would recommend this dentist to anyone.

If you want a great Dentist that does it all this is the one for you. His quality and detail of his work has been much better then any of the ones I went to in Manhatten. He is the only one I will go to. Its very clean, office staff very friendly and you get a great dentist with a great sense of humor. I have very sensitive teeth and he made sure I would not have any pain at all. For over 30 years, he has been in the same location. That should tell you how the neighborhood has embraced him!

Was very sad to see the review left by my fellow Unilocaler. I have been going to this dental office as long as I could remember and I’ve never had any dirty instruments used during my visit. Trust me, I’m as paranoid and finicky as they come regarding that stuff! As a little girl, Dr. Oliphant relieved my fears of going to the dentist. Now, As an adult I can still count on this dentist and his staff to answer any questions that I may have and still be the caring personnel that I have grown accustomed to. If you are looking for a sparkly, new looking office then this is not the place for you. Hence the 4 stars and not a 5. As much as I love the service, I must say that a remodeling of the office is necessary. People like pretty things as we all know and the newer patients will feel more comfortable and confident in an updated office. All in all, as a long time patient of this dentist I recommend that you check it out for yourself!

DO NOT GO HERE!!! I can’t believe how dirty this office is! There was blood on the machine he was about to put in my mouth! I told him «Dr; there’s blood» and he said don’t worry this part doesn’t go in your mouth and I told him NO! I decided to get up and leave. PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE… I immediately worried about Hepatitis and Aids transfer. I have no idea how he can run an office this way!
