Drive Rite Academy

I enrolled in a lesson with Andre on how to drive on the highway.
He went beyond expectations with the information handed out and different types of scenarios encountered.
Merging onto the highway alone, he had me experience long types, short and super short, stop, yield, and the hidden kind that needs a quick entry.
Changing lanes was nerve-​wracking and jerky, but we worked on it and Andre’s prime and calming advice is to «stay in the right lane and that’s fine, let others pass you.» No sense of stress or flustering, very fluid throughout.
Last but not least, the visual advice of seeing the highway as a series of rubber duckies in a flowing stream, just find and take that gap to seamlessly fit right into the flow.
Boy, Andre kept the entire car environment so calm, cool, and suave. Phenomenal lesson and his advice continue to stick with me as I flow through traffic with my fellow driving rubber duckies.

This driving school is a genuine 5 stars! I really like that they want to ensure that you become a good driver, and not only pass the road test.
The staff is very professional and caring. The atmosphere is great, the owner and the people at the office are super friendly and flexible. I took most of the classes with Andre, in my opinion he is the best instructor at this school, his classes were very informative and useful, and I enjoyed them! The other instructors are excellent as well. I was a new driver and I passed my exam in the first try!

They are the best. Laby, the receptionist, is so friendly, respectful, and nice. She gets the job done. Sylvia rocks at the 5 hour course. She is funny and informative which makes the hours fly by. Simon and Christina are really good instructors. They put you at ease and correct what you are doing wrong without being overbearing, condescending or rude. Jim is a good driver to the test site because he tells you about the course, give helpful tips and relaxes you before the exam. I passed my road test on December 31 2015 because of them. I highly recommend this school.

What a great experience!
1. My first class was with Stephen. After that first class I requested him for my subsequent classes. He was a fantastic instructor. He was patient and answered all my questions even the ones that might have seen ridiculous to an experienced driver. I learned so much. In addition Stephen has a calm demeanor which relaxed me for the more challenging lessons. I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor.
2. The receptionist (her name escapes me) was very friendly and professional. She has great customer service skills.

I’m taking lessons with Dave and he’s awesome! Very informative, helped me with my parallel parking a great deal which is my main concern. He’s really friendly and has a great sense of humor and doesn’t make my lessons dreadful which can sometimes happen if you get a rude strict unfriendly instructor in some places. Also just took my 5 hour class that today after I let my certificate expire bleh haha but it was great as well. Sylvia was teaching and she is also amazing, personable, also very informative made the class go by with ease but was thorough with knowledge on how to be safe. Overall I would recommend Drive Rite Academy to anyone that needs a good driving school =]

I wish there were more stars to award everybody at Drive Rite, specially Leivi at the front desk. She and Simon were super helpful in helping me get my driver’s license pretty fast and by scheduling my road test. Lots of great tips from my instructors Steve and specially André.

Everyone here is pretty great! First off, they honored my living social gift voucher even though the class was the day after it expired. The woman I spoke to on the phone was very friendly and helpful.
Sylvia Glezelis was the teacher for the five hour class I went to. I’ve taken it before and it can be as entertaining as watching paint dry, but that wasn’t the case this time. She was funny, I was cracking me up the entire time, and I really ended up enjoying the class.

There is a reason this driving school keeps their 5 star rating. The instructors are awesome, give great tips and make sure you understand the basics of parking, driving, etc. I had steve for a few of my classes and he taught me how to park perfectly, my parking skills are now flawless.
Overall the process in scheduling classes and the road test was really easy. You can even schedule them online unlike other places. I recommend asking for Steve when taking the road test. I was really nervous but he assured me things would go smoothly. He also gave great pointers before the test, which helped me pass the test on the first try!

Had such a great experience with driverite. Smooth learning process easy to learn techniques. Did the silver package with 6 classes went through smoothly obtained my license the first time passing the road test. Silvia kept the humor running plus great info about road rage etc. Jim gives great tips plus it’s very comfortable driving with him. He loves sports. David helped me with parking more and also tips to remember. Awesome front desk workers. Simon you rock thanks again guys

I had the most amazing experience with DriveRite Academy. I’m the most anxious person on the planet, so of course when it came to driving I had to make sure I got tons of help and the BEST driving school.
I passed my road test on my first try today, with ONLY 5 POINTS!!! I was so comfortable driving after the 10 lessons I had with Stephen over the course of about a month and a half.
I bought the GOLD 10 lessons package that included the 5 hr. class and a car (and instructor) for the road test. I would definitely recommend this package for any new drivers that have little/​no experience on the road.
Starting with the 5 hr. class, I believe the instructor’s name was Sylvia. The time FLEW by. She was great. She kept it interesting the entire time and did fun
exercises to engage all of us. I thought I would be bored to death but was overall a really enjoyable experience.
When it came to the actual lessons, I tried to maintain the same instructor for every lesson just so that we could always be on the same page. Once in awhile I had a different instructor but they are all pretty amazing. It’s nice to get a different perspective every now and then. My instructor was Stephen (Steve) and he was great!!! He’s amazing at what he does, he knows what he’s talking about and he knows how to relay it onto the student. My parking is perfect thanks to the step-​by-​step tutorial he taught me. Every time I was having trouble grasping a concept, (left turns!!) we would go over it a million times until I perfected it. He didn’t hesitate to tell me when I could have improved on something. I did several mock road tests with Steve and one with Simon and that’s what really helped me!
Also, Simon and the staff at the office are really accommodating. They’re super nice and always there to help you. I think I only had one minor scheduling issue in the 2 – 3 months that I was taking lessons and they took care of it right away.
ANYWAY, I LOVE DRIVE RITE ACADEMY. Do not look any further for an amazing driving school, THIS IS IT!

Getting behind the wheel of a car always seemed so scary to me. So I told myself I didn’t need one. But with my learner’s permit about to expire for the second time I knew it was either get my license now or forget about it for good. I started shopping around for schools and reading reviews. Most of the reviews I read for driving schools were terrible. There were instructors who yelled, appointments that got rescheduled without warning, and a whole lot of unprofessionalism.
And then I read the reviews for DriveRite Academy. Every single one sang the praises of the instructors and the staff. Well, that many people couldn’t be wrong. I signed up for a single lesson to try it out. If I didn’t like it, I’d just be out $ 40.
Nervous as I could be I showed up for my first lesson. Once I got behind the wheel and Jim began talking me through things I didn’t feel so nervous anymore. He kept me calm, talking the entire time, sharing funny stories, and before I knew it I was feeling a lot more confident behind the wheel. By the end of the very first lesson I had even executed a successful parallel park. I signed up for a 10-​class package as soon as the lesson was over.
Next came the five hour class. Sylvia was incredible. I definitely was not looking forward to spending five hours on a Saturday learning about safe driving practices, but Sylvia made it so much fun. In addition to being very knowledgeable, she made the material so much more interesting and easy to understand by sharing her own experiences and tips. She even spent some time at the end giving tips on taking the actual road test which really made me feel like getting my license was an achievable goal.
We scheduled my road test after that and I really didn’t think that eight weeks would be enough time to get me ready. Over the next eight weeks I had two lessons a week and got to meet each of the instructors. Each had their own style and every single one of them was a great teacher, patient, kind, and knowledgeable. They actually made learning to drive fun. What a difference from the half a lesson my dad gave me that left me so terrified, I didn’t try to learn to drive again for another fifteen years.
I had Christina for most of my lessons and she was absolutely wonderful. She made me feel so comfortable and confident. She always explained things in a way I could understand. She didn’t laugh at me when I asked stupid questions, and was always patient with me, even when I made stupid mistakes like reversing when I meant to drive forward and backed onto the curb during a parking attempt. Before I knew it I was actually feeling confident that I would pass my road test.
Andre gave me my last lesson on the day of the road test. It was raining and I was nervous because I’d never driven in the rain before. He showed me how to turn on the headlights and wipers let me drive around for a while to get the feel of driving in the rain. Then he gave me a mock road test so I’d know exactly what to expect. He even graded me afterward, which told me exactly what to focus on during the test: looking and being aware of my surroundings, which was really one of the hardest parts of driving for me.
Stephen drove me to my road test and did his absolute best to keep me and the other students in the car calm as possible. Given how we all were, that was no easy feat. He explained how the test would go and what we should expect, and told us about all the little things that should watch out for. He explained how points were taken off and as the drivers in front of us took their tests he would point out their mistakes so we could learn from them. I try not to think about how much more stressful those two hours waiting to take the test would have been if not for him.
My test was given by a very scary lady who had me so nervous I forgot to put on the wipers and headlights. She shrieked at me the entire time, pointing out something wrong with everything I did. But I kept telling myself I knew what I was doing, and drove just like I’d been taught even though I was sure I had failed. When the test was over, I sat quietly waiting for her to tell me I had failed so I could get away from her, and I thought I was hearing things when she said she was giving me my license. But no, there it was on the slip of paper she handed me. There it was in black and white: This receipt is your temporary license. I still can’t believe I passed my road test on the first try.
So if you’re looking to get your license, take the five hour course, or even just take a lesson to brush up or reduce your insurance rates, I would recommend DriveRite without hesitation. Their customer service is some of the best I’ve ever seen and everyone I dealt with went above and beyond. Definitely worth every penny.

Drive Rite was awesome and really helped me improve my driving skills. The instructors I had (Stephen, Andre, and Simon) were always patient and understanding. I’m happy to say I took the test and passed!

The day before my lesson I received a call from Simon (owner) telling me that my instructor was sick. We managed to find the right time for that day and due to the inconvenience he would be my instructor. I haven’t been behind the wheel for the past 10 years and he made me feel at ease and secure. That’s what I can say for all of the instructors I’ve experienced. I’m the type of person who likes to have the same person all the time. From Christina, Stephen and Simon they were all great instructors to have. They are patient, approachable and encouraging. They were very honest about my progress.
I’ve had to practice my parallel parking over and over again and I just want to give Christina and Stephen a huge SHOUT OUT because I parked perfectly on my road test.
High Five for my 85!!!
Also, I had the pleasure of being driven to the road test by Andre (another instructor), who was very informative about the test and even pointers about being a driver and owning a car.
Passing and Failing the test would have been fully on me and if I had failed I would have returned because I felt more than Customer. It was a welcoming atmosphere and fully professional, which is lacking in several driving schools.

Drive Rite is wonderful! I came in not knowing how to drive at all, but after 10 lessons with them, I was able to pass my road test on my first attempt!
Most of my lessons were with Christina (who is a great instructor!) She taught me how to do a three point turn and how to parallel park with very very helpful tips
I had only one lesson with Steve but I wish I had taken some more with him because he was also very helpful. I had that lesson with him right before my road test so he made me go through a practice one, which helped tremendously
Simon, the owner, is very accommodating when it comes to making appointments and moving them around to fit your schedule anddd he’s super friendly. He drove me to my road test location and helped give me the confidence I needed to pass. I only wish I had a few lessons with him!
I’d definitely recommend this driving school to anyone who’s new to driving. They’re extremely helpful!

One word for this driving school: AMAZING! The moment I got my permit I signed up with DriveRite. I took the road test 1month after getting my permit and PASSED These guys are number one in my book! I never drove a car a day in my life until my first lesson at DriveRite and look at me now, I’m a cautious/​smart/​LICENSED NYS DRIVER!
Simon was awesome and his staff was always helpful. I signed up for the Gold Package, that included the 5hour class (it was fun, we watched videos on what can go wrong behind the wheel and learned about distracted driving. You see lots of dead bodies FYI) 10 lessons and the road test.
Majority of my lessons were with Jim and Andre, Jim was great at getting me comfortable/​confident behind the wheel and Andre really fine tuned my parking and all details for the test.

Drive Rite is the perfect school for any prospective students or returning drivers. They were extremely patience and encouraging throughout all of my lessons, no matter how many mistakes I made. I had lessons with Jim, Steve, and Andre. All three of them helped my tremendously, especially since I had zero driving experience.
Simon, the owner of Drive Rite, is completely dedicated to taking care of his students. On my first try at the road test I failed because I was sooooo nervous. Simon spoke to me and encouraged me to not beat myself up about it and to try again as soon as possible. I signed up for the rush package which included two extra lessons, car, and a rush road test. Today I took my road test at the Jamaica site and I PASSED!!! I am so grateful that my instructors and Simon gave me the confidence that I needed to pass my test.
I definitely will be directing everyone I know to Drive Rite Academy!!!

Simon: extremely helpful, friendly, and reliable. Always available via email or phone to answer questions and schedule lessons.
Steven: very professional and patient. I felt really safe during my 1^st lesson when I was a huge nervous wreck on the road.
Jim: really funny guy who talks a lot during lessons. I definitely became more relaxed on the road as I took more lessons with him.
Alex: never took a lesson with him, but he drove me to my road test. Really kind guy. I could tell he would have been a good instructor.
And now for the bad part. The 5 hour class was terrible. Everything about it was a complete nightmare. It was a full classroom and I had Silva. Maybe it was because majority of the room was under 21 years old, but the 5 hour lesson felt like it dragged on while everyone shared ridiculously dumb stories. I couldn’t wait to run out of there.

Where do I begin? Drive Rite had this gal driving right.
Nestled right in the nook of Brooklyn college. It’s been a wonderful experience, from start to finish. I took the silver package of 10 lessons being I had minimal experience driving and had some practice. I had Jim as my instructor and we clicked since day one, funniest guy ever, humored all my silliness. He definitely made me feel comfortable and gave me great tips for driving, turning, parking and broken u-​turns. I also had Steve for one lesson who was equally wonderful.
All the instructors are just engaging and helpful. Silvia for the 5 hour class was hilarious, the time flew right by, she was engaging from start to finish. Simon, my personal secretary lol, from humoring me and being so sweet. Both Jim and Simon are my two favs guys lol but they always joke on me, but all love though.
As of August 3, this girl passed her road test on the first try and was driving rite. Next for me will be highway lessons, so they are stuck with me for a little while longer lol :)
The whole Drive Rite family is absolutely the best for learning how to drive and gave me the skills that will last a lifetime :)

I have to start off by saying this was my first and only driving school that I have attended. Prior to choosing drive rite academy I went online and read many reviews on other driving schools but none stood out. I read the reviews on drive rite academy and saw most reviews were positive and decided to give them a shot and I can honestly say this was the best decision!!!
From the moment I signed up online till my road test everything was super easy and smooth. Simon who is the owner and also an instructor (an owner who not only manages but instructs I know unheard of!) was awesome. He made sure I felt okay with the package I picked, set up my five hour class and asked when I wanted to take the road test. Furthermore whenever I needed to make changes or reschedule or anything he was on top of it!
As per classes I had Jim and I felt comfortable with him. I highly recommend Jim he is easy going and funny. He will teach you everything you need to know about actually driving and not just road test stuff like other schools. He made sure I felt at ease with the car and was able to perform everyday maneuvers.
Lastly I took my road test today and passed on my very first try! Even if you have prior driving experience and haven’t obtained a license yet I recommend you try out their packages. Best school hands down, thank you drive rite academy for helping me get licensed!!!

Drive Rite Academy is an AWESOME driving school! They are super friendly and genuinely want to ensure that you pass your road test. I signed up for 10 lessons on the fly, I’m not even sure I was really willing to commit. I was nervous and didn’t think I would ever feel comfortable driving. Jim (very funny guy) and Sylvia were absolutely great. They helped me feel comfortable driving and my confidence grew in no time. I had no intentions of taking the road test within 3 months of signing up, but Simon was on it! He made sure I took that test as soon as possible! He’s such a nice guy! I chose this driving school because of the awesome reviews I saw on Unilocal and I’m glad I did.
Also, I took their 5-​hour pre-​licensing course. I thought it would be so boring, but Jim kept it interesting and light. Definitely not the snooze fest I thought it would be. I didn’t have Andre as a driving instructor, but he took me and 3 others to the road test site. He was very nice and informative, reassuring us that if we stay focused and remember what we learned, we would have a higher chance of passing. He was very pleasant and willing to take any questions beforehand.
Well, after thinking I was destined to be a timid driver, if I ever drove at all, I PASSED the road test the first time I took it! If you’re looking for a driving school in Brooklyn, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DRIVE RITE!
