Evil and Love Tattoo

This happened over a year ago: I was sent to this shop by an ex coworker who is close friends with Steve the owner. After looking at Steve’s work online I decided I wanted to work with him. I have a large tattoo on my arm and was looking to begin work on a half sleeve, adding a number of new elements while incorporating the design that’s already there. Truthfully, it was going to be a lot of work and I was completely understanding of this fact. I met with Steve and we spent a decent amount of time going over the plan. I left a deposit that day and was told that a sketch and email would be provided for me in two weeks. Two weeks passed, then three, then a month and I got no promised email! I was texting and calling. Each time Steve just gave me continuous excuses and delays, stating that he is working on it. Finally I stopped by the shop again determined to get my deposit back. Steve took out his sketch book and showed me some random picture in it, stating that it was an idea for my arm when it was nothing even remotely close to what we discussed. Steve once again sat with me and discussed the plan all over again from the beginning and I decided to give it another chance because I was promised communication this time.
It has now been two years, I am still out of my deposit money and I have not received anything.
No way to conduct business…

My review is for Diego. He’s a super talented mofo and you won’t regret seeing him ever. I discovered his work on Instagram, and I’ve was sold by his unique artwork and style. He is super accessible via text, email, etc, and definitely was nice/​patient enough to sit down with me and listen to me ramble about my 100+ ideas before he came up for a general, organized design for my chest/​under boob tattoo. His pricing is on the pricey side ($ 150 an hour) but it is subject to change depending on the tattoo itself.
As for the actual appointment, it took me a few hours. As always, no pain, no gain, but Diego is super chill and let me take breaks when I got restless or when it got too painful. He’s super chill and will make conversation with you to make things less awkward and at ease. At the end of my 5 hour session, I finally got to see his work and I could definitely say that the pain and money is worth it. He definitely has a steady hand and an eye for this shit, so if you’re on the fence about it, just make an appointment already! Thanks Diego!

I recently got a tattoo at Evil and Love and I was very pleased! I came in with exactly what I had in mind and Krista gave me just that. The shop itself was very open and clean and was a relaxed environment. We were greeted right away and had little wait time. I would definitely go there again!

Krista Cheri made my childhood dream of a Sailor Jupiter tattoo come true. She has such a phenomenal understanding of shading and colors and she took my simple idea and blew it out of the park. The shop is clean, bright and has such an awesome energy to it I loved being there. I could write like 10 paragraphs on why you should go here but honestly the places reputation and staff speak for themselves. Why are you still reading this? Go there and get tattooed already.

It took me a while to find an artist that I trusted enough to do a simple tattoo that’s all lines… especially because it was my first tattoo. Diego is THE MAN. Communication was thorough, he was well-​prepared (had printed out size variations before I got there) and most importantly: he’s the nicest and chillest person. Especially for those who are getting their first tattoo: he took all my nervousness away in an instant, and took his time. Best first experience ever. The tattoo was immaculately immortalized! Diego has a steady hand.
The studio itself is super clean and professional! I can’t wait to go back for my next one. Diego is worth every penny and then some more… While you are at it: make him show you his portfolio of his drawings and watercolors… insanely talented. Went in yesterday to get a tattoo with my friend. Amanda and Kevin were great! We are both so happy with our tattoos.
Definitely recommend! For sureeee going back next time I’m in town. Very clean and professional.
Also, the shop dog Riley was probably my favorite part, sweetest pitbull pup who will def calm any pre-​tattoo nerves :)

I contacted Evil and Love on a whim after the shop I originally planned to go to didn’t come through. After talking with Steven about what I wanted, he recommended Krista. She arrived at the shop only 5 minutes later and, after I showed her my concept, immediately started sketching. She showed me both the rough sketch and the final sketch for approval before we began. Krista is not only a wonderful artist, but very friendly and accommodating. She made sure I was comfortable, allowed my friends to come back to see her working, and chatted with me the whole time. The tattoo came out exactly as I wanted it, and Krista did a pristine job on the line work and coloring. I can’t express enough how happy I am with her work.
The shop itself is also very inviting and clean. The atmosphere is very relaxed, artsy, and welcoming. The music they were playing was also fantastic. I definitely recommend this studio!

The best place ever to get a tattoo. I came in just to take a look and decided to do it right away, what is not to like about an artistic business…
The place is very clean, big plus here. The artist are very professional and talented. Diego listened to my story and reasoning for my tattoo and he was able to do the right job for me, okay, it was an excellent job. So far, I had gotten great compliments for my new tattoos. They are very self fulfilling. I love it !
He even let me place and position the stencil on myself at my request, because I wanted it in a very specific order and position. Absolutely recommend it, I wouldn’t go anywhere else !

I truly cannot sing enough of Evil & Love’s (particularly, Diego’s) praises. I had such a wonderful experience here and only wish that I could afford to get tattoos every day-I’d return to this place for each and every one of them.
After getting some insane quotes from a couple of other local establishments for a small, 2−3″ tattoo (like, $ 150+), I had just resigned myself to paying that amount for the whole affair, no matter where I went. I just wanted my tat ASAP. Since I work during the day, I searched on Unilocal for places that were open until 9pm or later, and found Evil & Love by poking around a little bit. I called and spoke to a very nice guy (who I later learned was Steve, the shop owner) who said that he loved my tattoo idea, would work on pricing to fit within my budget, and that someone would be able to see me as early as that night. Though it was a trek up to Greenpoint from Park Slope, I figured I couldn’t really go wrong with the sound of that!
By the time I made it up there, it was about 8:20pm and the shop was almost empty-​one client was just leaving, and she and I started chatting about the work she got done and her experiences with Evil & Love (all positive). Diego, who was just finishing up with her, then started talking to me about my idea and immediately sized everything out for me. We came up with the proper dimensions and placement, and then got the job started.
While the whole process only lasted about 45 minutes, from the moment I walked into the shop until I left, Diego was patient, affable, and really chill the full way through. He made sure I was comfortable the entire time, and that I was really getting what I wanted (a little cat on my left inner arm, if you must know!). Though my piece wasn’t very big or complicated, he didn’t make me feel uncool or silly, and treated me with friendliness and professionalism from start to finish. He also gave me a very fair price, which I was very grateful for (and hopefully made up in my tip!).
The shop itself was very clean and nicely laid out. The front space is a gallery, so you can go in an appreciate the art without staring at bleeding people wincing in pain as they’re being covered in ink. The rest of the staff members (I think there were a couple apprentices, Diego, and Steve, the owner) were all really nice and friendly, and were happy to chat shit and distract me from the needle.
Again, I can’t recommend this place enough. Good vibes and even better work. The quality that I experienced SERIOUSLY makes me want to go back and get a huge, colored, shaded lower back piece… y’all wanna give me a discount and some lidocaine? (Hah.)
Thanks to Diego and Evil & Love for a very successful second tattoo! Still waiting on my little kitty to heal, but it’s coming along nicely a day out.

I got my first tattoo here and it was super chill and comfortable. I got my mothers signature and it came out just how I wanted. Being that it was my first Kev made it super relaxing and spoke to me quite often. Also even when I walked in to the shop everyone was super friendly and helped my friend and I super fast. You can easily tell that everyone is super passionate about what they do. The artwork around was pretty cool and this is a shop I will be returning to. Loved it!!!

I have been back to see Amanda for ~15−20 hours of additional pieces. I commissioned a peony half sleeve that I absolutely love (and get compliments on it every time my arm is showing). After that, I selected one of her original artworks for my thigh. Her work is amazing and the shop continues to be great.

I highly recommend Evil & Love Tattoo! I booked an appointment with Diego to have my first tattoo done in my inner wrist. Diego was very prompt in returning my initial email and we bounced ideas on exactly what I wanted to get done. I came in on Saturday and as I walked in to when I walked out — it was an awesome experience. Great clean ambiance with down to earth artists. We of course discussed final touches to what I wanted to get done — Diego assured me that I was in good hands. Indeed I was. The tattoo itself took about 10 – 15 minutes to do and I was beyond pleased with the job done.

Oh man, what to say. I went in there to add on to my tattoo which has been longer over due. Diego totally owned it man, this guys lines are nice and his shading is ridiculous. Love my tattoo and i cant wait till its fully healed. I will definitely be going back again for a touch up of my old tattoo cause his work is totally outshining my old work haha. Staff and environment is super chill too, like this place a lot.

I loved the environment, music is relaxing & the staff is friendly & calm given the fact I screamed pretty much the entire time through my foot tatt. Don’t recommend that particular area to ppl who can’t take pain ! But my waist was cool. Diego did my art work exactly how I thought & I’d definitely go back.

Amanda was great. She quickly drew up a custom slice of pizza tattoo for me, and I’m very happy with the result. Everyone in the shop was very friendly.

Steven worked diligently with me for weeks via email on a custom design. My tattoo took almost 12 hours over 4 visits. Weekday nights, there were zero distractions in the shop, meaning Steven’s attention was 100 percent on the tattooing.
My tattoo required some trust. I couldn’t picture exactly how the image would translate to a tattoo, how the colors would change against my skin, how the shape would wrap. Steven explained all his design choices when I asked questions. He can be on the quiet side, so ask, ask, ask!
Love the results.

This place is awesome.
I knew I wanted to get my tattoo done in Greenpoint, so I did a lot of research on different tattoo shops in the area. This was one of the shops on my list. I went to Three Kings first (on Sunday), and after being quoted almost 300 bux (!!!) on something that I knew wouldn’t take more than a half hour, I decided it wasn’t worth it to go there. Monday morning, I emailed Evil and Love just to explain what I wanted to get and I got an immediate response. I was able to get in the next day – perfect!
I went in after work on Tuesday and met with Steve. He’s super nice and chill and didn’t make me feel uncomfortable or nervous whatsoever. I brought in a picture of what I wanted and he helped me decide on placement and other small details. He did the tattoo super quickly and touched up my other (poorly done in FL) tattoo and didn’t charge me extra, which was super nice. Definitely a better deal than 3K at a much more reasonable price.
I’m really pleased with the whole experience… MUCH better than my first tattoo experience at another shop. I was the only one there when I went in, so I can’t speak for any of the other artists, but I would definitely recommend Steve and his shop in general. He played Outkast the whole time and hums while he’s working, which I personally thought was very relaxing, ha! He was very knowledgeable about his art. I love that even though I came in with a picture of what I wanted, he tweaked it a bit and made it even more unique.
If you’re thinking about getting a tattoo in Brooklyn, I couldn’t recommend this place enough. I’ll definitely be coming back here for my next one!

Evil and Love is a great shop. From the moment you walk in you get homey feeling.
I went for my first tattoo yesterday and it was a great experience. Steve and Tim, the guys working at the time, made me feel comfortable. There’s was never a moment where I felt intimidated or nervous when I was expressing myself. Those guys were all ears and were willing to hear all my ideas. They were interested of wanting to know and understand my vision was, and provided excellent constructive feedback.
I think that’s what made my experience so great. Especially while going back and forth with ideas. They didn’t hesitate to give you advice and suggest what can be done so tattoo will come out looking better.
I can’t wait for my next session!

I like everything about this place. It has a chill vibe once you step foot into the shop. I had (currently having) work done by Steve. We bounced ideas back n forth for about an hour before starting my tattoo. He easily could’ve been impatient with me but he took every idea of mine into consideration.
The neighborhood is cool as shit. Something about listening hip hop while getting a tattoo makes me feel at ease lol. I plan on getting future work done here as well.
