F Monteleone Bakery & Cafe

I went here specifically to get a fruit tart for my fiancé’s birthday and it didn’t disappoint! The fruits were fresh, the tart was beautiful, and it was such a fair price. Not to mention the service was great! This bakery has a wide variety of cookies and smaller pastries to choose from, in addition to different cakes that are each decorated with care. The staff took the time to patiently guide me through the different cakes until we finally decided to stick with our original plan to get the fruit tart, but the cake options were very tempting! I would come back again if I’m ever in the area and I would recommend anyone looking for pastries, cookies, or cakes to go check them out!

Italian Ice here is as good as it gets, still after many, many years! I lived in this neighborhood from 1979 – 1987 and my absolutely favorite summer treat was chocolate or lemon Italian ice from Monteleone Bakery. The hotter the weather — does one really wish for 100 degree heat so you can appreciate even more the luscious creaminess and deep high quality ingredient flavors of Italian ice — the greater joy this superb treat from Monteleone’s brings. I now live in Maryland but was back in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood on June 1, 2016 and wondered if the only Italian ice I’ve ever loved was still available and as good as I remembered. Yes and yes. I ordered a medium chocolate and was in flavor heaven. After a stop or two on Smith Street for other great food, I circled back for a medium lemon ice. Superb as always, just like the chocolate. Thank you to the Monteleone family. If you can’t understand why someone would rave about Italian ice, you haven’t been here and need to put a visit on your bucket list.

Cheesecake. I’ve had it. And I’ve had it all over the world since before Unilocal’s existence. Hands down, the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. Wow.

This bakery is the real deal! A Sicilian family from Italy baking the most amazing variety of Italian pastries — from Italian cheesecakes and stunning marzipan fruit, to cannolis, svinges, and svogliatelles. Like tiramisu? Their’s is light and fresh. At Easter and Christmas they have the pan d’oros and pannettones and tre Maria breads. The lines are out the door during the holiday period. I love their new savory offerings especially the pizza rustica! Best part is the friendly service, too. Oh and the cookies! The cookies! Don’t forget the cookies! The whole top row is gluten-​free. Sempre favoloso!

This family owned bakery is also a café, for coffees, plenty of excellent pastries and now, bites to eat eg. pizza, pizza rustica. In the warm weather try the lemon ices and gelatos here on Court Street in Carroll Gardens
There are always smiling faces to greet customers, in this old fashioned but currently remodeled building, with warm lighting, vintage wooden soffets and high tin ceiling. There is a laid back feeling of friendliness here. Stop here for your coffee and sweets after dinner as a warm ending to a nice evening.

I’ve gotten two birthday cakes here and both were huge hits. They always have a wide selection of beautiful cakes and tarts. The cookies are great too. Staff is always friendly and quick.

One of a kind! As a human being uninterested in consuming anything sweet, this place is the kryptonite of me. Order coffee and point to anything on the Italian desert shelf. There is no red or blue pill, you certainly won’t be drinking the kool aid, and there won’t be any fancy gimmicks.

I adore this bakery! A trip to this neighborhood is always made better by a stop inside.
I can’t rave enough about the fantastic service I receive, or the fantastic quality of the product here. If I need to bring a hostess gift to a party, or friend needs cheering up – this is my go-​to. I also love to stop in as a nice break from window-​shopping in the area. My favorite (and NOT to be missed, despite their unassuming looks) are the bite-​sized almond paste cookies. Delicious! And just nicest treat with an afternoon coffee.
You can’t go wrong here. The pastries look as beautiful and uniform as a picture, the cookies are fresh – never dry or stale, and the other baked goods don’t disappoint. The prices are reasonable, and the packaging is traditional, simple, minimalist, and just right.

Lmao for all those people that are saying the people that work here are rude, welcome to Brooklyn, welcome to New York, where we don’t have time for your gluten free garbage, and we like things the way they have been done for years! I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, since before the renovated, since there was a college bakery on court street which also made amazing cakes before developer bought them out to accommodate the new comers, so it makes me very happy when I walk in here and see old school workers with Italian accents, and a no nonsense attitude, because I feel like I’m actually in Brooklyn, not in small town America, which these new comers are changing court street into! But enough about my rant over negative reviews.
I came to for a last minute birthday cake because there closed on Monday, the lady who everyone is complaining about had zero issue with making me a cake today, and also 20 cupcakes, the so called nasty bakery came out to discuss what I wanted, it was all done and ready on time. I also couldn’t leave without some delicious Italian cookies!
So if you want someone to kiss your behind new comers it isn’t going to happen from a old school shop, they expect you to basically know what you want! And order it, there is no sitting there with your thousand dollar scroller while your Nannie watches your baby, so you can sip on coffee… welcome to Brooklyn! Glad places like this have survived the horrible gentrification!

I received terrible service. A man who I suspect was the owner yelled at us and said I was being nasty when no words came out of my mouth. It pains me to think I was treated this way because I am black. I will never ever order a cake or any baked goods from this establishment.

I happened to walk by and wanted coffee. Couldn’t believe the selection of sweets that was just overwhelming to choose from. The seating area is clean and cute but their cappuccino was amazing! They took their time to make the best cappuccino ever and they decorated with cinnamon and cocoa powder. I also tried their plain cheesecake and was so happy to find that it wasn’t overly sweet but tasty at best. The staff is very professional and seem to know how to advise a lost customer. I shall definitely come back.

Simply amazing. I was walking around Brooklyn looking for a good coffee shop and I can honestly I found a great place. The service was great and the pastries were beyond extraordinary. If you come in you definitely have to get a cannoli. Simply to die for. Nothing but happiness inside.

Can’t beat the price! $ 1.50 each for small tarts and eclairs, which are actually quite filling. In this neighborhood, where full-​size tarts can cost almost $ 5.00, Monteleone Bakery certainly feels like a steal. The size of pastries and the price feel just right. Perfect for when you want that afternoon pick-​me-​up or as a gift to parties and households with multiple kids.
As for taste, it’s consistently good, but not all are great. That said, when you factor in the price, it’s almost a non-​issue. If you want real French croissants and pastries, there are other way more expensive options in the neighborhood. So come in knowing that this is an Italian bakery.

Monteleone is an old school Brooklyn bakery… from the dark wood and furnishings to the striped twine ball they use to wrap every box. They generally aren’t too crowded except at major holidays. And they have a few tables if you can’t wait to get your favorite treat home to eat.
They have a large selection of pastries… but the star of the menu (and what keeps me returning like an addict) is their plain cheesecake. It’s made with ricotta cheese and is insanely good. It has made more than one «Ten Best Cheesecakes» lists for NYC and it absolutely deserves it. It also comes in a single serving size which is perfect if you don’t want to binge out on a full cake.
We took one of our West Coast friends to Monteleone’s for a cheesecake and he ended up carrying one home as check-​on luggage. Now that is some good cheesecake.

Wonderful family-​owned bakery in Carroll Gardens! I stopped by with my kids yesterday. The cheesecake was unbelievably good and my girls were raving about the chocolate mousse. We also tried a fruit tart. Everything we got was truly yummy.
We also ordered a custom ice cream cake, which I can’t wait to pick up this weekend. Where else can you get homemade gelato (we chose coconut) layered with cake (we chose chocolate, but vanilla is also available). A few months ago I ordered an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins and it was meh. This one I’m really excited to get.

The plain croissant was stale. There’s no way they couldn’t have known this when they packed it for me – it was hard and crunchy. That’s not why I went to a bakery instead of a coffee shop, or, heck, a grocery store, for my croissants.
Also, the chocolate croissant had a chocolate pudding filling instead of chocolate chocolate. You could call that a style choice, but it’s a choice that makes for a cheaper filling and less chocolatey flavor.
I won’t be going back.

still best cannoli, small or big. and their sesame sicilian bread is soo good, sooo crunchy. The smell of the toasted sesame seeds makes me think of Italy and reminds me my grandma baking bread in our fireoven !

This classic, family run Italian bakery has just about every baked good you would expect, and some you may not even know about. I’m not very good when there’s too much variety, I get pretty overwhelmed. And there is a lot of variety here.
From cookies, to classic Italian treats like cannoli and gelato, to cakes and tarts, this bakery has it all. So, I took a deep breath, asked for a couple suggestions, and went with some classics from a few different categories.
First, I had to go for a cannoli. The outside tube had a slight crispness to it and almost a savory quality. Inside, the filling was smooth and creamy with just the right amount of sweetness.
Then, I tried their raspberry tartlet. This little tart had a buttery, cookie like crust with a creamy and subtly sweet custard. The raspberries add a bit of tartness and freshness to the dessert.
Finally, I had a Pignoli. This was probably my favorite out of the three. The cookie exudes an almond flavor, crisp around the edges and soft and chewy on the inside, and toped with pine nuts.
