Welfare Basics. When it’s the beginning of the month. This is full of people who are on food stamps (EBT, SNAP). People were nasty in this store and the workers are not trained well because when you are paying credit card or debit. They automatically think it’s «FOODSTAMPS».

Bring your own bags and protect the belonging that you do bring in with you. There is always someone trolling behind you. I have learned my lessen not to bring a big purse. The selection is nothing to rave about except that they have a pretty good spanish selection. They are always bugs flying around in the produce section. Trying to find non-​moldly bread is a hard find so be sure to check the bread itself not the date listed.
The thing i dont get is how their workers can be so disgustingly nasty. One cashier told a guy who was having difficulty with his card to «hurry the f – up» and «you dont know how to read!»…even though it didnt happen to me i was still annoyed as a customer to see someone else being treated in such a manner.

Prices are cheap some items are average.

It’s close to the PJ’s soooo… Yea!!! They have a uniformed security guard OK!!!

Like the name might suggest, this is a simple, no frills supermarket. Solid prices, solid selection + stock, and an ample parking lot. BYOBags

I shop here every week without any complaints, it can be very busy at peak shopping hours but the prices are great and they rarely are out of stock of sale items.

big supermarkets are my go to places. This place reminds me a lot like Walmart big cheap and on prices are always low there’s no weekly sales low prices year round they do have like sales here and there but at the same time the prices are low as they can get!

Food Basics has outstanding prices. They do not have as big a selection as the larger supermarkets like Waldbaums, Shop Rite or Stop & Shop but they have the best prices on all the «basics» with or without sales.

My favorite supermarket. Affordable food, but you MUST reach there early in order to get most of the products, before they sell out. Well get there before the evening.
Otherwise, it’s a cool place

The prices at Food Basics can’t be beat. The store is immaculate and the staff is helpful and very pleasant.

Great prices. Yes it does get a little hectic in here but it’s worth it. They have cereal on sale for 1.98 just about every week, drinks such as Minute Maid and Tropicana on sale for .98, and the regular price for Fancy Feast is 50 cents!
As others said before, bring your own bags. Not so hard to do though.

first off for those of you who don’t know Pathmark, waldbaum’s, foodbasic’s, food emporium, and A&P, they’re all the same owners, is it’s kind of ironic that on the coney island peninsula all the major supermarkets are owned by the same chain.
The foodbasic has been open for about 5 years, it’s the best price wise of the three large stores in the area (Pathmark, waldbaum’s, foodbasic’s) there no fresh departments of any kind no meat, no fish, no deli, it does have the best prices for produce, the onion area is a little sketchy at times with two many fruit flies, but man is it cheap and all of the packaged meats and fishes are generally very good.
On the whole it has the same stock as the other two you have to compare the prices between the three and see who’s selling what,
My biggest complaint is there’s little if no policing by the store of the handicapped parking spaces, and they are frequently filled with people who are not handicapped, generally the store is very handicapped accessible otherwise. Parking on the weekends van be a nightmare.
Also because you have to buy bags people use old boxes and block up the front of the store loading their cars.
But the staff and managers are generally very nice.
like all the other store in the area the recycling machines are always occupied by crazies.

I can’t believe that I actually found my Dominican food products in a supermarket located in Sheepshead Bay!!!
They had some excellent deals and bought back tons of memories from when I was a kid and didn’t have to worry about my weight!!!
At first I was a little skeptical because of course it was a mad house in there but after being there for about 10 minutes, I see why!!!

Can’t believe I forgot to write a review for FOOD BASICS.
Bottom line they have really good prices. I used to go here often then I stopped. I don’t know why. You know how some things are you go for a while then fall off.
Cornish hens are cheap, around 2 for $ 6 which is unheard of. They really have all your basics for low prices. This place really is a gem. I wish there were more locations ’cause it’s in the cut.
Oh and like the other reviewers said– bring your own plastic bags or they charge like 15 cents for each bag.

The store always have great sales on name brand items. Plus a friendly staff willing to help which is nice. There are plenty of items where the other local stores will rip you off. The America’s Choice line are quite tasty too. In these tough times Food Basics is a big help when trying to save a few bucks. Remember bring bags or take boxes they charge for the plastics but they are worth it!

A great place to shop and save money. The store brand items are a great savings. Their beef hot dogs are the best I have tasted. I always enjoy the potato salad. It’s the best place I have found to shop for food in Brooklyn.

This store has been slowly improving since it first opened. But it has great deals, and I think it’s prices are comparable to places like BJ’s and Costco without the membership fees. Just remember to bring your own bags and to eat your Wheeties that morning for breakfast to deal with the crowds if you go on the weekends.

When i went there the first time i was pretty confused because it looked like a small 5 aisle store without freezers or dairy until i realized the extra aisles on the side.
After shopping there once i have been going there again and again… the prices are –amazing-​!! Especially if the item is on sale… you know you have a bargain!

This place started out dumpy in fact it was abandoned for a few months after Waldbaums shut down, but with VAST improvements over the past 2 years, have doubled the store size, added a (quality) meats section, and cleaned up the joint, to make a completely legit alternative to Key Food. The neighborhood gets some flack for being projects on one side and co-​ops on the other, and some of the kids hanging out in front to help people load groceries are a little too aggressive, but it’s not a dangerous area.
The food is well priced, and sales are *insanely* cheap. When they want the stock, especially fruit and vegetables, to move, you’ll make out awesomely. They have the off brands and even with the big names, it’s not overpriced like its competition. The express lines are usually choked up with foreigners with 50 items who reply ‘yes yes’ when you interrupt their cell phone call to point out they should go on a regular line, then not budge, but when they are done, open their coach or fendi bag and oull out crisp $ 100’s or their Benefit card. Even if I have 10 items I go to a regular line. Even a big shopping trip usually only takes me about an hour at most.
You won’t get a 16 year old cashier wearing a low cut Hollister shirt and a manicure which costs more than your groceries ringing you out, but at least you won’t hear her screech «I need the key!» every 2.1 seconds. It’s a give and take, I guess.
You have to bring your own bags (I use TJ ones since they’re sturdier), but since everyone’s got a chubby for going green, I’ll tack on that final 5^th star for that, so more people will be inspired, not just to save money, but the environanament as well. Good job, FB.

This place is one of the more convenient grocery stores in the neighborhood. It’s one of those places that tries a little to be «green», so they forgo the plastic bags and ask you to either bring your own canvas bags, or use some of the cardboard boxes they stack against the walls near the exit. They also have a couple of those self-​checkout machines, which I could honestly take or leave — they sometimes back up lines more than they’re supposed to help, but on a good day it’s pretty quick. If I had to compare it to another massive grocery store, it’s a little something like Shop & Stop or a good Waldbaums. No complaints here. :)
