This is as bucolic as Brooklyn gets: walking through Fort Greene park at sunset being tickled by the collard greens and cilantro overflowing from your bag. The Fort Greene CSA offers weekly and biweekly plans. You come to the park Wednesdays and pick up bundles of fresh veggies: greens, squashes, herbs, roots, and some wild cards(kohlrabi and squash blossoms!). The food comes from Sergio Nolasco’s farm in New Jersey, and it’s local, organic, and pesticide-free. The CSA team sends email newsletters with updates about Sergio’s farm and recipes and guidelines for how to use that week’s schwag. Every week I get to have cooking and eating adventures, feel good about staying healthy on a budget, and stay connected with my environment and community. The CSA offers low-income memberships and payment plans that make joining easy for a diverse crowd. Snag your share in late May if you don’t want to end up on the waiting list!
