I have been coming to this place since I was a kid: I remember my aunt would take me here on Sundays for gelato! It was the best part of the day. I have always ordered my cakes from here– The service is great the staff is pleasant and the price range for a cake is moderate. My 2 favorite pastries are: The Blueberry Napoleon!!! Heaven! and the Éclair– It reminds me of my childhood. Highly recommend getting a cake from here, they can make anything you want, cut out, pictures, regular. Great place!

When I first walked in I saw the assortment of bakery items inside the display cases. I’m obsessed with cannolis and the lady behind the counter recommended their African cannoli. It looked tasty so I decided to try it. Wow am I glad I did! It’s a vanilla sponge filled with some sort of chocolate mousse and covered in chocolate. It may sound like it’s going to be really sweet but surprisingly it wasn’t. I wouldn’t recommend eating the whole thing all at once because after eating just a third I was full. I will definitely be back to try some their other pastries soon.

I’ve tried this bakery on various occasions and the quality of the desserts is always subpar. The red velvet cake is very artificially colored, noxiously sugary, and does not seem to be made with cream cheese frosting. Cookies are all generally similar… dry and leave a greasy film on the roof of my mouth. A gelato cake I ordered melted extremely quickly even when it was cool out and I only had to transport it for a friend’s birthday to a restaurant, which was only 20 minutes away. After giving Fortunato’s many chances, I stopped going because the quality of their desserts is terribly poor and the service is rude. If you ask more than one question, servers generally become exasperated, even if the shop is not busy at all. Save yourself time and money – go to Veniero’s, Brooklyn Cupcake, Martha’s Country Bakery, or Sugar Sweet Sunshine for baked goods and go to Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, Sundaes and Cones, or Häagen Dazs for ice cream cakes. Fortunato’s just does not make anything good.

I love their cannolis, napoleon cake, cream puffs, and the fact that they’re open late!

This is officially my favorite Italian bakery, ever. Fortunato Brothers bakery is nestled in a charming North Williamsburg neighborhood. Upon walking in at 8:30pm on a Sunday, we didn’t have much of a wait, so we stood completely mesmerized by the enormous selection of treats. I needed to feed my whole family dessert, so I bought a dozen Neapolitan cookies, a slice of tiramisu, a cream puff, and a lovely large cannoli. The service was efficient and not overly friendly, but still great. We quickly filled up a box of our treats and decided to take them to go. The seating area inside is great, and there were many people enjoying a cappuccino or espresso with their dessert –I overheard one pair enjoying over a conversation in Italian! We got home and opened our delightful box of treats that was tied neatly with string. Right away, my husband dove into his cream puff that was adorably shaped like a duck! No quacks about that one — the cream was light and perfectly sweet, and the puff had a perfect body to hold the cream with a nice flakiness. The tiramisu was not overly saturated, and the coffee flavor was not overwhelming. A noteworthy tiramisu and I wish I had more! The cookies were also perfect — nice and moist with a delicious fruit filling between layers. Finally, the cannoli Grail. Oh my, what a perfect cannoli. I dreamed about what it might be, and it did not disappoint! The cannoli filling was unbelievably creamy and sweet, and the nice crust made it a perfect pairing with my coffee. I wanted moreeee! Next time, I will bring boxes home to share with you all. If they make it home :-)

The entire staff are wonderful people. I felt welcomed, got great service and they were happy to answer all of my many questions(I got my baby shower cake from them which was excellent by the way). The one disappointment I encountered was the desserts I had at the bakery. Although the pastries looked perfect, they weren’t very fresh. The texture and taste of the cakes were like they had been refrigerated for some time. The coffee was really good though. I would recommend sticking with their made to order cakes which are always incredibly delicious and fresh!

Great great traditional Italian bakery. As a New York native, this is as good as it gets. Tiramisu, cannoli and all the classics. Everyone raves about famous Ferrara in Little Italy but it ain’t got nothin on this place.

Hazelnut cannoli was so good but did have more of a cake taste to it(spongy) but I did enjoy it. I also like the other Cannolis and baked goods they had.

You guys are killing us. We ordinarily love the pastries but this is the second time you unload your stale pastries onto us at full price on a holiday weekend. Either sell your old stuff at half price, and give us a choice or accept being called disonesti!

Fortunate Brothers is a Williamsburg institution. It has been here since 1976 and I hope it will be here in 2076. I can’t believe I have never reviewed them before! 10 years ago I got the cake for my 30th birthday party here. If you have to bring desserts to a gathering and are in the area definitely check it out. It is old school Italian pastry stuff. This is not gluten free. This is not organic. This is Fortunato Brothers and when you have a cannoli you will be a fan for life. There is table service in fact if you want to eat in there is only table service they take VISA/MC($ 10 min) but prefer cash for tips.

After reading other reviews, I will have to unfortunately agree with some of the complaints… Service was awkward and disorganized(one girl took my order and brought it to us. But another rang me up and I had to wait after a few people got serviced AND paid… If I have to pay a little more to eat-in, why do people who pay less get serviced better than me, and they are taking out). Next time I’ll take it to go and just eat in. The service was friendly though. Also, no signage! No prices for coffee, pastries, cookies, and other non-cakes. They pretty much only price quote their cakes. There were a lot of people who seemed like regulars, and I didn’t wanna annoy them by asking a million questions about prices especially bc it was a little busy. So we just picked our items and hoped for the best I didn’t see the girl who took our order glance at us to check in, so I went to pay and was ignored until I was the last man standing(thank god I have patience of a saint, lol) I definitely won’t go there for a quick grab, more like if I have time to kill. I liked the pastries though, and the coffee is real good… So they get one star for being friendly, one for tasty pastries, and one for good coffee! Coffee is kinda colombe priced, but kinda good like colombe too)

Never visited this bakery but our workplace has been fortunate enough to receive numerous deliverers. By far the best Italian Pastries I’ve ever experienced. Beats«Little Italy» and«Arthur Avenue» hands down. The cannoli cream here is unsurpassed. The Sfogliatelle and Cream Puffs — outstanding. Worth the calories and the heart failure…

Are there better bakeries out there? Probably, but this place is still pretty good. A couple friends and I came here for dessert after dinner. Service was friendly and there was plenty of seating. We ordered a bunch of things to share so I had a little bit of everything! I wasn’t really a fan of their gelato as it was kinda melty, even when we ordered it. Everything else was good though, sweetness and fluffiness of cake, flakiness of pastries, and smoothness of custard. I will definitely stop in to pick up some baked goods the next time I’m in the area.

Its very sad that racism is still a part of this society. I visited this bakery today, & there was 3 female workers behind the counter. At no point did anyone of the workers ask me, If I needed any assistance. They never acknowledge me even in the bakery. Of course I’m the only black person in the shop. So I kindly helped myself to the exit.(Undercover Boss plz help) They need a serious change in attitude.

Great selection of Italian pastries and baked goods. We have picked up an assortment of pastries and baked goods here several times and they are all always delicious. From the Cannolis, to the Eclairs, to the Napoleon, all money. They also have full size cakes, like 25 gelatos and coffee.

Love their expresso coffee and cappuccinos! Wish they were closer to me. Their desserts are great. I usually stop by if I’m in the area and order their cannoli to go to take to my parents. They love them. Their Gelato is delicious as well.

This place makes me miss so many things at once. Living in Brooklyn for one, Italy secondly and the list really can go on and on. But you’re here for one thing and one thing only right, how the heck were the pastries? They were friccin’ amazing and I loved every moment of this space. Only in Brooklyn can you walk in a half hour before closing time and nobody flinches as you scoot toward a table after ordering everything in their window. My friends and I started off slow, first it was the red velvet, and then we thought what about some cannoli, this then became a full table of cookies, sweets, and coffee galore with four shameless people just soaking it all up. Every bite of every pastry, every cookie, every cake slice was perfect. Our servers were adorable and quick to suggest other treats as we happily ordered everything like we had only just been introduced to sugar. All in all a lovely way to end a night after a yum Thai dinner not too far away. It was good to be back home.

Fortunato Brothers is an order at the counter, sit down, and enjoy kind of dessert shop. They had an entire store length showcase of pastries and gelatos. They all looked good, but me and my friend decided to opt for the gelato since we weren’t that hungry. For her, she got the red velvet gelato. For myself, I got a scoop of tiramisu and a scoop of pistachio gelato. Both flavors were really creamy, smooth, and just melted in your mouth. The pistachio flavor was more subtle. You could only taste a slight nuttiness after you’ve had a big spoonful. As for the tiramisu, you could definitely taste the alcohol.(But you won’t get drunk off of it, don’t worry). My friend loved her gelato too. She wants to go back for more already! It’s a pretty chill shop. And the servers greeted us warmly when we were looking at what they had to offer. They then brought our items to our table, and there’s no sense of rushing us to leave or pay up.
