Really good food! I can say it’s the best Chinese food I’ve had. Very fast service too.

LOL — I have been ordering delivery from here since 2002. Suddenly they want to charge $ 1.00 extra for any sauce on the side. Already the food has been on the decline and now this? They need to go out of business if they feel they can’t keep the family business going — not nickel and dime us to death and cut corners on quality to try to turn a profit. Do yourself a favor and order from Lichee Nut over on Montague Steeet. Nicer fami. y and better food anyway…

Middle of the road Chinese restaurant. Went there for lunch, very affordable sit down at $ 6.25 per combo. Portions small then normal which meant they weren’t huge very appropriate. Fried rice was good and so was the general tsos but the sweet and sour chicken was lacking.

The food wasn’t the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had, but it was meh. Portions are small when you order to go. $ 6.25 + tax gets you rice, a greasy entrée, and a soup or salad. I ordered the wonton soup, which was ok and came with two wontons. The entrée box was 80% rice, however, so while the $ 7 price is good, you’re not getting much for it! But seriously. You’re mostly getting rice. Also I’m preeeetty sure there is MSG in the food… I definitely had a strange after taste and huge headache afterward.

Pretty much consistently good food at decent prices. Food and restaurant here is much better than you standard«Chinese take out». Would recommend this place.

From a holistic standpoint, Fortune House is a very dependable source of food be it lunch or dinner. Their lunch combo is extremely cheap at 7 bucks and you get not only a filling meal but also a soup and some fried chips that Americans call lo mein. I live down the street and I can go pick up food I ordered on the phone within 10 minutes. From an authenticity standpoint, only the most critical of Chinese foodies would be offended. There are plenty of not-far-off options such as the Shredded Pork w. Dry Bean Curd & Pickled Cabbage, Chinese Eggplant in Garlic Sauce, and Teriyaki Salmon. Downsides are there are not enough special Chinese dishes and desserts for Chinese foodies.

Very basic neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Service was prompt but slightly overbearing, asking us three times within 10 minutes if we were ready to order(while semi empty). Luke warm and diluted green tea, few shrimp in my chicken and shrimp entrée, and had to pay a $ 1 extra for sauce(although still very reasonable for the price– well, BK heights prices). Would come back for the wonton soup and lazy days when going around the corner is all I have energy for, but definitely not a culinary destination.

Definitely above average as far as NYC Chinese food goes. So not disappointing, pretty good overall.

Much better than I expected! And much cheaper than those chi restaurants in Manhattan!

We live in the neighborhood so we are happy to be able to walk here. However we have stopped eating here in the last few months because the food is tasteless. We could only figure out that they must have changed chefs. I have spoken to a few people about the restaurant and they agree the food has changed. We are hoping they improve, we would be really happy to return instead of going elsewhere to eat.

I’ve had their lunch special a few times. Their only good soup is their wonton. All of their entrée’s seem to be pretty average or a tad below, nothing inedible. Lunch special is super cheap, 6.25 plus tax. So it’s pretty hard to lose. But there are way better options that may be a bit more expensive but are way, way more satisfying.

Food tasted fresh and delicious. For an appetizer we had shrimp shumai which was very good. Not too salty. My main course was the famous Gen. Tso chicken which I throughly enjoyed. The chicken had a slight crispiness to it but was still very tender. In NY it’s hard to find an authentic«sit down» Chinese food restaurant. Most Chinese food rest places here are take– out orders. But at the Fortune house you get that old school feel. Also, The waitress we had was very friendly. We’ll be back for sure.

The food is «hit or miss». It was better a few years ago and I’ve noticed it’s more of a «miss» than a «hit» now. In addition to the inconsistency in flavor, there is an inconsistency in the amount of food. Sometimes you get more chicken… sometimes you need to search among the vegetables… Because of the convenience — and limited take-out food choices in the area — I sometimes order from them and hope for the best. Because of their rudeness at the counter, and over the phone — I won’t be taking my chances on a «hit or miss» meal anymore. The woman at the counter has no patience, no manners, and is flat-out insulting… You can actually loose your appetite dealing with her… So, if you don’t want to spend money and don’t want to be hungry — politely ask a question and be prepared for the snarling, witchy rudeness that she’ll unleash. You’ll leave feeling fed-up.

There was one night with friend when we just wanted to have a good meal and have fun in a good environment. We were lucky enough to find this place. Food is excellent I loved the sesame chicken! Is delightful! Good place! We were from Venezuela, Italy, Germany, Japan and Korea and we all loved it!

I like the freshness of their food, and the friendliness of all the staff, from the managers to the waiters and waitresses. I have eaten here for many years of living in Brooklyn Heights and that is a recommendation in itself. It is also quiet, with tasteful background music, so always possible to chat with a friend while having a delicious meal.

How on Earth is this place surviving with the meanie up at the counter? Seriously? I almost thumped her on the neck. Here I am being all polite and asking questions(no one was behind me waiting) and she is about to have a fit because I have interupted her soy-covered daydreams. Whateva. Anyways, I asked if there was MSG in the food and she looked annoyed and shook her head no. Really? All of sudden you cant talk? I didn’t believe her but I ordered chicken wings(5 drummets) for 4 dollars and change. And let me tell you– the MSG was live and in affect. It made the roof of my mouth itchy, gave me a slight eye ache and a weird after taste. Yeah, no thanks.

Great Chinese food from a wonderful staff. They use traditional ingredients such as lotus root and Chinese squash. If you’re looking for a great lunch and superb service, look no further. It’s been a while since I’ve had their seafood, but they always had really fresh seafood and I always looked forward to the crab that they served. It was cooked with garlic and scallions and was battered and fried perfectly in a soy, ginger sauce. The way the Chinese do crab and lobster are very different than the average American eatery where they just steam it or boil it; so if you’ve never had it, get out of your comfort zone and try it! I remember the steamed fish was always great too, the soy sauce with the oil drizzled on top of white race and eating the soft fillets of white fish were always a good treat. Always nice to see a legit hole in the wall keeping up good traditions.

They have great lunch specials. I have frequented this place for more than 20 years. But whatever you do, don’t get take out. It is horrible. As long as you eat in, you will enjoy your food.

This place is great for eat in, but not so great for delivery. I always enjoy the scallion pancakes and baby bok choy dishes, but when delivered, everything comes out watery and a little bland. I think it’s from the steam in the packages — not sure how that can be avoided. When I eat in, however, I must say it has never been anything but good. The décor is pleasant, very clean, fast friendly service and the food is certainly above average with plenty of healthy choices, not the typical fried fried FRIED stuff you find in the majority of Chinatown. This is a really great option for a quick dinner before a movie at Brooklyn Heights Cinema down the block. Lastly, the price is reasonable for what you get — if you want a lot of crappy Chinese«fast» food for cheap, try Great Wall down the street instead.

Not much thing to say. Almost worst Chinese restaurant in NY. Reason is that the waitress and the hostess are really b i t c h. Asking for tips and everything.
