Horrible customer service!!! The guys who run this place have absolutely no respect for the frequent customers. Very pretentious and rude! Wine selection is not the best, plenty of better options available in south slope.
I live close by, and used to come here frequently. However my last experience visiting the store proved that I won’t be returning there again.
I came in to the store with a friend to purchase a bottle of wine for a dinner party. I left my purse at home, and only had a credit card in my pocket. When purchasing the bottle of wine, one of the guys requested to see my ID. After realizing that I do not have it on me, my friend offered to pay and show her ID. The repose that she received from the guy behind the register was extremely rude. He said «no you can not purchase wine, because you brought her with you (meaning me)» I felt extremely disrespected. My friend offered that we both leave the store, and she returns to purchase the wine, to which the guy said no. We are both working professionals in mid 20s. Not to mention that I came to this wine store many times before, and should be considered a valued customer.
I suppose this wine store does not care about attracting customers. Won’t be returning there again!

While the guy there is always very helpful, he’s also a bit rude. I’m sorry it’s not my job to know everything about every wine. So when I ask a question, there’s no reason to respond condescendingly. I am still a customer, whose business you should value. I will be bringing my business to acme wines on 12^th and 5^th. Better prices, nicer people, more selection.

I am horrified that Fresh Direct is bringing in cheap nasty liquor and wine. I can get this cheaper at Bay River! What are they doing?!

Give credit where it’s due, and it’s certainly due here. I have actually been in here before and was talked out of buying a more expensive bottle of wine because they thought that I would actually enjoy another (less expensive) bottle instead. I was glad I listened and got that bottle because it was wonderful. I was pleasantly surprised that they care enough about the products they sell and their customers to do this. P. S. we also once got talked into purchasing a polish honey vodka that is now a family staple — SHOTS!

Drinking an amazing Zinfandel as I write this. Great wine, great hours.

This place is amazing. The owner is hilarious. I came here looking to get a bottle of goose and they didnt have it. They had a cheaper polish vodka which was way better. He will even let you sample the vodka before you buy which i liked very much.

Adam’s has the best selection in the neighborhood. And the customer service can’t be beat.
You can tell that the owners are passionate about wine, and I love supporting a mom and pop shop that cares about the people in our neighborhood.
And thanks to the guy with dark hair who works on Sundays — Appreciate the great vibe and recommendations.

The store was fine – small, but with an adequate selection. However, the man behind the counter was unnecessarily rude. We had unintentionally pressed the buzzer twice (the door was locked anyway, mind you, with nobody in sight during normal hours), and when he eventually let us in the first words out of his mouth were, «You only need to use the buzzer once,» in a snippy and condescending tone. Abysmal first impression when it comes to customer service and friendliness. We made fun of him during the entire walk back to our friend’s house after that. Be polite to your customers; we weren’t trying to rush you at all!

I can’t say enough about Adam. He knows his wine and will take the time to explain his recommendations. Whether I need to run in quickly and grab a bottle for a dinner party or I am taking time to pick out something new, Adam and his staff have the answer. I wouldn’t buy my wine from any other store!

I can’t say anything more than exactly what is already posted but this place is all the experience that they say. It’s just terrific. And I bought the honey vodka. How could I not? It’s delicious.

I haven’t been back to this wine store in way way WAY too long. But I figured to walk over on a day off from work for the hell of it and grab my favorite ‘fire wine’. That’s not actually called fire wine but is a spicy tempranillo: Garnacha de Fuego. Told you. Fire wine. Adam and the rest of his business partners and family are always super friendly, helpful, and informative when you come on by! If its during normal evening hours often he has wine tastings. If you’re lucky enough he will let you try his special honey vodka. It’s one of a kind. Everything is categorized by country in a neat and orderly fashion. They also have a discount punch card for if you purchase what i believe is 12 bottles, you get the 13^th for $ 1. I love this place enough that no matter where I’ve moved around to, I always find myself coming back out of curiosity to check on the place and pick up a bottle.

Highly recommended. Adam is awesome, and so is his staff. Very passionate about wine and always ready to help with a suggestion. One time I had a friend visiting from out of town, so we popped in to grab some wine and a particular bourbon that’s hard to find. We talked about the coming weekend and he gave us some vodka for the hikes ahead. He cares a lot about his business, and that’s why I love to support it. That, and the conversations are amazing.

Went here today for the first time and will definitely be back! Adam recommended a great cabernet sauvignon and merlot to go with the meals I was preparing and in my price range. Whether you are looking for a nicer, more expensive bottle or a cheaper (like less than $ 10) yet still delicious bottle, this is the place to go. Plus they have a punch card, so your 13^th bottle is only 99 cents!

I wanted to pick up a little something on my way to my friends’ house so I stopped in here before hopping on the bus. the guys here were super nice and helped me find what I wasnt sure I was looking for. It all worked out.

Don’t be swayed by the poor reviews. They come from good people who skim the waters of Adams like tourists riding jet skis. Me? I snorkel, taking a little more time to see what’s going on beneath the surface. And the verdict is in: I’ve been to Adam’s over 50 times now, and I love it just about as much as I do the neighborhood itself.
No matter how many wine stores you go to [the inexpensive but pretentious Big Nose Full Body… The rustic and friendly Slope Cellars… the scores of no-​frills, borderline rip-​off ‘wines and liquor’ shops scattered around the ‘hood] one factor remains constant — Adam’s offers an experience unlike any other.
If you accept the notion that you can find a bargain at any wine shop, then your competitive differentiator becomes knowing which wine shops make their bargains easiest to find. With that, nowhere makes finding a ‘diamond-​in-​the-​rough’ easier than Adam’s. The only catch is that you have to relinquish control to the man (Adam) who unequivocally knows wine better than you do. And relinquishing control, in general, is something that most wine consumers don’t tend to like to do.
It’s understandable, but most folks end up missing out. Adam’s is a true neighborhood institution, one that’s been here for over 30 years, and is owned and operated by generations-​deep family members. It keeps its shelves stocked with great wines from floor to ceiling and laces your retail experience with a personalized, fiercely-​local approach to service. Add to it the colorful supporting cast (staff) and undeniable convenience, and you’ve got one of the best (albeit one of the few) wine shops in South Slope.
All of that aside, if you just need a bottle of good wine at a reasonable price, Adam’s has you covered there, too. Go, if for nothing else than to experience something different.

Ha — was just about to write how rude this dude is when i saw it’s already been covered!
I don’t mind a wine-​snob, I think I can be to an extent myself — but dude, you sell mediocre crap at high prices and then act like you’re Gods git to liquor stores? Ok, maybe you’re the only game in town in South Slop and that sucks for people living in the 20s — but I’m equidistance to you and Slope Cellars — and it’s not even a comparison in service!

When I lived on 19^th street I visited Adam’s almost daily.
They have a great rotating wine selection. They will let you try stuff.
THEY WILL LET YOU RETURN SOMETHING YOU DIDN’T LIKE!
Of course they’ll let you return a bottle that was corked, but if they suggest something, and you didn’t like it, they’ll give you your money back.

Adam’s fills a need — it’s the only decent wine shop in the neighborhood. By «decent» I mean the staff actually TASTE the wine, instead of just stocking wine by brand, the way shoddy liquor stores do. Their selection is reasonable. .There are a few gaps, but that’s bound to be the case in a small shop.
The staff are also super friendly, although I felt a little talked down to — they seem to assume most of their customers are less savvy then they are. That annoyed me, as it felt a little patronizing. But their friendliness mostly overcame this.
The negative reviews here illustrate what’s going on with this shop: They’re located in a neighborhood where many customers are starved for a decent selection of wine and spirits, but others expect to be able to walk into any liquor store and find a cheap handle of JD and a magnum of Yellowtail shiraz. Adam’s only cares about the former type of customer. Which is fine by me.
Yeah, they have a little bit of an attitude, but when you’re the only decent wine shop in your Brooklyn neighborhood that’s understandable. It is still a little annoying, but I’ll be back because they’re really my only local option. And the selection is decent.

I went in with two friends yesterday to get some booze for our Fourth of July BBQ. We needed vinho verde (spelling? probably wrong) for a cocktail we were making, so we asked Adam if he had any. His response (basically yelled at us):
«I DO NOT SELL THIS POISON IN MY STORE.»
Oh! Well, that’s interesting. So Adam, do you have any other not-​so-​sweet sparkling wine? He told us no, he had a cheap bottle of Prosecco that might work for us (implication being we were cheap) for $ 14. Okay, maybe I am cheap but I think I’m just used to the massive selection of sparkling white wines under $ 7 at Trader Joe’s, but sorry dawg I’m not going to buy a bad $ 14 bottle of Prosecco after you just yelled at me.
We then asked if he had any flask-​sized bottles of gin because we only needed a little to add to this cocktail. He scoffed at us and pointed to a rather large bottle of Bombay Sapphire saying that it was the smallest.
We then walked out of the store and found another place up the street.
Don’t give this guy business. Crazily rude.

Adam was incredibly rude to me and my two friends when we went in on July 4^th to pick up a bottle of vino verde for our party that day. I think he looked at three young women, heard my request for verde, and made some snap judgments: that we didn’t know anything about wine, and that we’d still buy from him if he basically spit in our faces. He yelled at me (literally — not an exaggeration) that he didn’t carry «poison» in his shop and continued for about 45 seconds before I cut him off. Extremely unpleasant.
Also, the store doesn’t carry any small bottles of hard liquor. We wanted a small flask of gin, and the only large bottle they had was $ 30. Go down 5^th to the liquor store near 15^th street, and avoid Adam and his prices.
