Dr. Herskovits has 33 years of experience in the dental field as well as more than 1400 hours of continuing education credits (a rare achievement.) He graduated from the New York University Dental College in 1981. Since then, he has lectured and taught dentists on Halitosis treatment and cosmetic dentistry. He is an internationally sought after breath specialist that is serving patients in the Brooklyn area with expertise and care. Dr. Herskovits has been awarded many times for his contribution to dentistry and the dental profession. He is part of the Invisalign 100 Club, which is a special honor, because it means he has one of the top 100 offices in the country.

If I could give zero stars I would. He is a crook and a liar. First of all the receptionist said that he takes my insurance on the telephone call. When I arrived I was told that he does not. I decided to go ahead with seeing him since I was desperate and in pain. He gave me a price for the work and then charged me a good 30% more when I was done. He is a blatant liar about price. He also told me I needed 3 teeth filled because the fillings were falling apart. Well, when I went to another dentist THAT ACTUALLY TAKES MY INSURANCE AFTER CLAIMING THEY DO ON THE TELEPHONE CALL ALSO, he stated I didn’t need any work in the 3 teeth stated by Dr Herskovits. He doesn’t even deserved to be called a dentist. He basically robbed me.

Herskovits’s office is hardly a nightmarish place. You can certainly do worse. But, overall, I think you — and he – can do better. He was gracious, even merciful, with some insurance and financial problems I’ve had. I received a root canal from a specialist there that has held up, but I’ve had complications with Herskovits’s work. I can’t necessarily blame these complications on him. Dental work is just that: dental work. It is not magic. There are lots of contingencies with these things. That said, here is where I think Herskovits can improve:
1. Establish clearer communication with patients about options and pricing: too often Herskovits rushes through things, or even begins a procedure without being clear on these very important matters. Informed consent, after all, is a pillar of the field of medicine.
2. One way to improve would be to print out treatment plans defining procedures and prices ex ante (before starting procedures or even x-​rays) so we’re not surprised ex post (after procedures).
3. Don’t be so adversarial with patients; we’re all on the same page: we want to give you money to make pain stop; you can make pain stop and want money. You’ll have less problems if you improve on points 1 and 2 above.
Herskovits’s is a no BS guy. I appreciate that. Many probably don’t, and I’m sure many patients give him BS. One way to fix all of that is to improve on the above.

Just followed up with a real root canal specialist, Dr. Ancselovics (amazing). Turns out he never did a full root canal on the tooth. So he charged me through the insurance company and didn’t do the work!
He spent nearly in hour drilling on my tooth, no pain killers for when the anesthetic wore off and all the time he was pretending!

Don’t ever go to this dentist. He will rip you off and try to convince you your mouth is such a mess so he can do unnecessary work and drain your insurance. I and my wife went to another dentist for a second opinion, we were told no work needed to be done… Scumbag!
There seems to be a need for me to edit my post. I’ve been receiving emails from the office with my X-​rays (haha)… What I failed to mention is that it was my wife’s mouth he was gonna rip open for no reason to drain her insurance money and charge us 2500 outta pocket when another dentist said no work needed to be done. (His price would be 1200). I never bothered to go back to him to fix my tooth of course because this dentist couldn’t be trusted.

The services were poor starting with a root canal. The dentist missed the nerve and numbed my eye — started work on the raw nerve.
I was called in by Dr. Herskovits to complete the crown and was told I had no insurance left and I needed to pay for this in cash. I am very admit about following my benefits and what I have remaining — After some back and forth the Dr himself got defensive and nasty with me. He is unprofessional to say the least.
I recognize everyone’s experience is different — be sure to keep track of your benefits is all I will say.

This dentist is sure not in the profession to help people as much as his pockets! He charges for things other dentists do not. Example: He charges $ 2,000 for a small amount of gel you put on your teeth every night for a month. (What’s in it gold?!) –Just run for the hills people.

I Had to do another review!!! My daughter had an appointment to get sealants. She needed 3. She was definitely a trooper throught the whole procedure. But Dr. Herskovitz made he experience that much better! The best part was when he had to numb my daughters mouth and he did such a great job that she had no idea he even stuck a needle in her gums. She was In Shock when I told her! He uplifted her and kept her positive during the whole procedure telling her how great of a patient she was and how proud he was of her. I’m not gonna lie I was quite surprised and proud of my daughter for handling everything with such courage. When it was all over, As we were packing to leave. The Dr. calls my daughter In The hall and presents her with some beautiful pink tulip flowers because of how GREAT she did. I’m so blessed to have found such a great dentist for my family. He’s so good in fact, that I will drive from Long Island to Brooklyn to be seen by him. When you’ve found something good, u can’t let it go! Thanks Dr. Herskovitz for giving my daughter such a great dental experience!

I came here back in August. I had been experiencing some gum pain. I’ve only had one cavity in my life. Dr. Kerskovits did some Xrays and proceeded to tell me I have 8 – 10 cavities. One needed to be filled right away or I’d need a root canal. Everytime I’d ask him a question he’d respond very indifferently saying he did not know anything, he was just seeing me for the first time. Very vague and he started rattling off how much fillings are with my insurance. I was shocked. Overall he was not personable or compassionate. I like to trust the person who puts their hand in my mouth. I got a second opinion and was told I have no cavities. I would definitely say to think twice before going here. And to top it off one of the office employees was very rude and when I told the dentist he shrugged it off.

Called yesterday and made a 9am appointment, they took down my insurance, my name and SS#… Come there at 9am and they take my card and then tell me they don’t accept my insurance… So why take it over the phone if you wont do what you took it for and call them to ask if they cover what i told you over i was coming in for… had to leave…

I go every 3 months for a cleaning and once a year a follow up visit and have my X-​ray taken.
I can say Dr Gary H is one of the nicest guy in the industry he is here to help and not take my money. He goes the extra mile to make me happy all the time.
If you are looking for s honest and reliable dentist that give you a pain free treatment, he is worth a try.
While I was getting my cleaning done, there was a slightly mental retarted patient with his mother there, I over heard the situation Dr Gary H treated him and gave him the attention and Paitence which I don’t think anyone else would of given this guy, was very impressed the treatment he gave him.
No he didn’t ask me to Unilocal him or review him.

If I could give Dr. Herskovits 10 stars, I would. This man is so kind, professional and accommodating I can only wish all dr’s were like him. I have had a toothache for a week now (on and off), with no dental insurance I was afraid. I went to see him, he took x-​rays and could not see any cavity or any reason why I would be in pain. He charged me a minimal amount for the x-​rays and even went over dental insurance options with me.
He told me that if my tooth continued to hurt to come see him the following week. Well, that Saturday at 7pm my tooth HURT! I called his after hours service and they gave me his cell number. HE PICKED UP! told me to come in on Monday, before work, 7:30am and we would see what was going on. By that time my tooth did not hurt anymore. He was willing to start a root canal but told me that I should wait to see what happens. He could’ve easily told me a root canal was necessary and charge me up the wazoo (again, no dental) but he didn’t. I am going to wait until my tooth actually hurts for more than an hour and go back.
I would recommend this man to anyone and everyone.

I needed emergency dental work and I could not find anyone who would slot me in as a new patient. I found Dr. Herskovits through military friends of mine and I gave it a shot. The rest was history, he literally took me out of my mini-​depression due to a front tooth that fell off, and talk me through my options. His calm and professional demeanor was evident when he personally felt my anxiety and restored my confidence when the tooth was finally repaired. He did not know me or certain I would ever come back to his office, but he was concerned with getting me the treatment I needed. If you are looking for an experienced, gentle, caring and passionate man in dentistry, I fully endorse this guy. No work too difficult no task he hasn’t accomplished. I need an implant in the near future and I’m going back.

Since I have posted this review the doctor has become very concerned and has contacted me through Unilocal about 5 times over the course of several months.
In every email Dr Herskovits insists that this review isn’t for him, because he practices in New York and I live in Los Angeles.
I have written him back 2 different times assuring him that I have the right doctor and I used to be a New York resident. Somehow he continues to be in disbelief.
I guess the doctor has never heard of someone moving!!!
The last time he contacted me he still insisted I have the wrong doctor, but he would like to make me happy. He said I could come in for another halimeter reading free of charge and he wants to make it «right».
Sadly, I live across the country and cannot take advantage of his damage control.
Thank you for the offer. Oh and for the final time I HAVE THE RIGHT DOCTOR. I LIVED IN NEW YORK AND MOVED.

Dr Herskovits is a gift to NYC!
Rewind the clock almost ten years… I wake up with a swollen jaw and less than desirable breath (my roommate even asked me if I ate a dragon)! A quick Google search led me to Dr Herskovits. I’m so glad it did. Understanding my emergency, he saw me almost immediately and quickly diagnosed my problem. 4 impacted wisdom teeth which led to a minor infection! We scheduled an extraction date, and in the interim I was thankfully given treatment for breath that could melt butter. The extraction went easier than expected! Dr F, the surgeon, was an efficient expert and handled this boxer’s jaw with no problem. The best part, I did not feel Dr H’s needles! No BS people, this man has skill.
I have been a customer ever since that initial visit and have had fillings, cleanings, and even Invisilign done there. Also, Dr H has treated most of my family and even some ex girlfriends. Going in today for a routine cleaning and another positive experience. Thanks Dr H!

Of course my post was deleted as well. I guess Unilocal isn’t as reliable either. I was in a similar situation as Albert. Although, Dr. Herskovits seemed friendly he was indeed a deceiver. I went in for a consultation and he took x-​rays of my teeth, did not inform me that their would be a huge fee for four x-​rays. He, than proceeded to tell me that my mouth was full of cavities when my regular doctor said I only had about three in total. Once I was ready to leave, I was furious at how I was deceived by this doctor only to be approached by the nasty receptionist who demanded I pay. I proceeded to tell her I did not have the money (which I did but did not want to pay because I was deceived), and than she asked my aunt who was with me, to pay for my x-​rays. How rude! I left and did not pay because of the way I was treated. Months later I was still being billed and charged an extra fee. I did speak to the doctor in person and he made no effort to remove the fee he charged me for the x-​rays in which I was never informed I had to pay to begin with. Word of advice, go to a place where patients are placed before money because this doctor and his staff do not give a s*** about you or your teeth.

Simple «in and out» dentist. Informed me I had started to develop gum problems; gave me a deep cleaning and some medication; and, recommended cleaning methods. My third visit back I have a full clean bill of health. I would strongly recommend a visit.

Unilocal removed my review, which I can only assume is because Mr. Herskovits (I refuse to call him doctor) complained. Well, I am going to re-​write it as many times as I need to, because I want to warn people that this so-​called dentist is indeed a crook and he deserves to lose business. Please note, for anyone else reading this – there used to be about five one-​star ratings here. Now there are only two. I wonder if the others got erased by Unilocal after «mysterious» complaints as well. Hmm. A note to the wise dentist: If you are so averse to negative reviews, perhaps you should do your job well.
I went here to fix a very minor problem with one tooth. Herskovits roped me in by offering free X-​rays, which later showed up on my bill, of course – and because it was only a verbal promise, I had no proof and so I was stuck paying. He then nearly convinced me to get my wisdom teeth pulled, at a ridiculous cost. I am uninsured and I knew I couldn’t afford it on top of the other procedure that I originally went there for, but he made it sound really urgent. There was something about him I didn’t quite trust, so I got a second opinion and was told that in no way do I need any teeth removed. He also convinced me to purchase a special electric toothbrush, again making it seem like if I didn’t buy it my teeth would fall out right then and there. I bought it for a couple of hundred bucks and guess what – it didn’t work. I had to return it directly to the company because of course the dentist’s office refused to give me a refund.
Now, about my actual dental procedure: I literally spent thousands of dollars here and got nothing in return. The problem that I have with my one tooth is still very much there, and I have evidence to prove it. Herskovits was too darn busy to ever listen to any of my complaints, and I got into an argument with the receptionist here after I made an appointment to see him and he refused to look at my mouth. I know he might not care about one silly patient, but I spent good money to have him fix a problem and not only did he not bother to fix it, he didn’t even pretend to care.
