Gateway Center

I love coming here since the expansion. I mainly stay on the new side of the outdoor mall. It’s the prettiest and easiest to navigate. I love that there’s a bus stop on this side and there are lots of lovely stores and two supermarkets and some higher end and discount stores for everyone. I come shopping here at least once a month and just walk around and enjoy the shops and the open space. They have a food court in a sense that there are like 3 restaurants all in the same place. I think’s it Panera, a burger place and a pizza place but there’s also Applebee’s, Red Lobster and the like located on the property. When I don’t feel like going to Queens Center or Queens Place, I come here and it’s always a nice time.

I am thrilled that I have this location in Brooklyn. It was close to home and a change from Atlantic Ave mall. Finding the location was cool, parking was even better and the stores I visited had great prices and way lower compared to similar stores at different locations. Yes it was crowded and driving on our way out was congested, but it’s to be expected it’s a mall. Be ware if you choose to settled down and grab a bite to eat at Applebee’s service was not impressive. The staff seems to be tired and annoyed and confused as to what to do with you when you walk in. Other than that I love locations with multiple exits and entrances and that have merchandise in stock. Although they can use help organizing and cleaning up some of the Dept. Overall, be wise selecting a time and day to go to avoid crowds and mayhem.

This mall is very convenient and well maintained since long time. Recently they are adding up stores and the supermarket for the near by local residents as well as for job seekers. It is very nice and covers everyone’s needs.

I don’t like this Mall, because the stores are not connected like a regular Mall. As a result, each store is separate from the others, so when you’re done with one store, you have to leave it and go to the other. There is also more than one building, so sometimes it can be a 3 – 4 minute walk to get to the other building. I most likely wont be back.

Since moving to South of Queens, it’s convenient for me to pass by and get something quick. Parking is free and the Super ShopRite there is one of the biggest ones in NYC, so big that you can find the same item in different isles of the store. The thing is that if you’re not driving it’s an incovenience to walk to the back side of the shopping center. They probably didn’t know that this was going to be a hit and did not know they might expand over the years. With that said if you are coming here in public transportation pack light and prepare to walk A LOT. Many restaurant options from from Red lobster to Smash Burger and a park across from the center where you can sit and relax or bring your bike and ride around.

I love that this mall is here so many store to choose from parking is always there food many options to choose from love it and for the holidays it got easier it’s close to my job they should put in a Spencers and an H&M as well to add to fabulous location

This is cool and very convenient mall in the community that has been maintained over the years. It recently expanded with additional stores and a huge supermarket and its great to see my old neighborhood being uplifted and providing jobs for residents. But like any other shopping area, it gets cray cray on the weekends and/​or holidays and I try to avoid the area like the plague. Sooo many cars trying to get in and out and it can be a hassle. Forget about trying to get something to eat in one of the restaurants on the weekend, long waits.
Overall I love being able to drive to Target and/​or Best Buy for something quick. Its definitely worth checking out especially with the free parking. There is also a public bus that stops in the immediate area and seems like a short walk to the shops.

This mall is ridiculously hard to get to if you live in Queens. When I look on the map — Gateway Mall is SO close to my apartment. Unfortunately, the MTA made it a 2 transfer trip. I have to take public transportation in the wrong direction, instead of the right direction adn the route you’re forced to take is shaped like a giant ‘C’ shape. The real distance is only 2 miles. But because of the highways, and the marsh, and the MTA, the trip takes well over an hour. The MTA shows that the route takes 45 – 50 minutes. In actuality, they have you traveling over 6 miles and it takes well over an hour. The MTA provided some decent options if you’re approaching from Brooklyn. But if you’re coming from Queens, forget it.

This shopping center is nice, but I have a major issue with the cleanliness here. At this location are a variety of stores here for everyone’s needs, but the trash that is seen on the parking lot is unacceptable.
A couple of weeks ago, I parked close to where I saw a woman and her daughter eating chicken wings and throwing the chicken bones out their window onto the parking lot. Aren’t parents supposed to be a role model for their children, why would she commit such an act and encourage this behavior? I was so disgusted by it; I wanted to say something to them but walked in disbelief.
I figured it was probably just that day, but I was so wrong.
Last week, I parked near GAP clothing and as I was walking towards the nearby shops, I witnessed another horrific image. This person had a white car and his driver door was open, he was urinating on the parking lot and he figured that he could use the driver door as a way of being discrete. Why are people not civilized? There are plenty of stores nearby that provide a clean bathroom.
Then yesterday, I went to Shop-​Rite and noticed trash in their parking lot. Shop-​rite is such a nice supermarket and provides a great deal of variety of foods. But seeing the trash on the parking lot was just another dirty sight.
I don’t blame the storeowners but people themselves and the security guards who pretend to patrol the premises. All they do is sit in their cars and watch videos on their phones. I feel for the person who has to pick up the trash every night to tidy the parking lot again. This is a nice shopping center and we ourselves are ruining it.

This mall is super close to where I live in Canarsie and that’s a HUGE bonus for me when I want to do one stop shopping. I have to confess though my weakness above ALL the stores is Super ShopRite. It has EVERYTHING under the sun and every time I go I have to walk down each and every aisle so I can feast my eyes. The cooked food, especially the chinese bar is REALLY good and better than most Chinese take out or eat in for that matter. The whole store just heaven to visit and even with a prepared list of what I need I always leave with more… the major dept stores like Target, Best Buy are great however JCPenney is TOO small and offers as a result very few selections. I am spoiled with the Manhattan Mall JCP so nothing will ever compare as far as I am concerned. Micheals is GREAT for the creative folks out there like myself… and you can also find so great stuff at the massive Burlington Coat factory too.
The only draw back for me is that just recently an entrance was created for easy access to the front and back side of this mall. There is only one and should have more of these access way for the pedestrian/​bus riders who make up a huge portion of the shoppers that come to this mall. If you are a pedestrian you have to plan out what part of the mall you need to go to first so you can get off the right bus stop. If not, you WILL be walking so wear comfy shoes for you will need them. Overall, this is my go to spot for my creative, food and bargain shopping needs. On a really fast day I can get to GMall in 20 minutes with a transfer… that’s darn good!!!

Great improvement. The selection of stores are way better. Everything you need is in one parking lot. The parking isn’t scarce and it’s still free! Hopefully they add a Crate and Barrel and chipotle and we’re all set. The Pier 1 is a great addiction along with Outback. Oh yeah there’s a Bank of America there too!

This is currently my most loved location for shopping. I used to go to Kings Plaza to shop because it was the most convenient place for me. It was close and has many shops. Unfortunately, the recent changes made to the mall made it hard for me to find things I like. My sister decided to drive a little farther and we found the Gateway Center. Its great!
It is not too far, has a great parking lot, a variety of food, and many places to shop at. Majority of the shops and restaurants here offer great service.
I highly recommend this place for people living around the area (especially lazy people like myself). Why bother traveling far into Manhattan or even farther to Queens or NJ when you have something so close haha.

Soooo I decided to pay this Gateway a visit. I can honestly say I enjoyed my shopping experience. The area is clean. I was able to find parking. There are so many different stores to choose from. Gateway is really nice for a family shopping day.

I love this shopping mall. If you need something and don’t want to travel far, then this is definitely the place for you. I love the new renovated look of Gateway Center. There are so many stores to suit your every need. This is the best thing in East New York right now.

I always liked the mall, even when it was much smaller. Now it’s pretty top notch since they’ve added an entire group of new stores at the back of the old mall running its entire length.
This Shop Rite is probably the best supermarket in the borough. It has a small food court/​lunch bar and a Duncan Donuts where where a simple hot meal can be obtained. The worst thing to do is food shop hungry. Now you can have a bite to eat first. Gets very crowded on weekends. Make sure you have a quarter on hand because you need it to release a Shop Rite cart. Of course you get the quarter back, but it’s annoying when I can’t find a quarter and have to ask an employee to free a cart for me.
If you want to have a more traditional sit-​down meal there is an Applebee’s and a Buffalo Wings just opened. I’ve eaten at both and they are what you would expect — good.
I’ve enjoyed shopping and also browsing in the J.C. Penney’s, Micheal’s (crafts), T.J. Max, Petco, and Pier One. Pier One is an oasis of calm and beauty for me. I purchased the most exquisite hand crafted ornament there before Christmas, and fantastic earrings. Love to browse there as well.
As others have mentioned, the parking lot can get crazy, but I’ve never had a difficult time finding a parking spot close to whatever store I chose to enter.
Target, Bed, Bath & Beyond, and Famous Footwear are my favorites among the original stores (facing the highway). I have a wide foot but can always find something that fits comfortably, looks good, and doesn’t break the bank at Famous Footwear. I can’t tell you how many things I’ve found at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Right off the Belt Parkway and huge parking lot. This place gets very busy during peak hours. On the front side, there is a Home Depot, Target, Best Buy, BJ’s, Marshall’s Babies R Us, Bed Bath and Beyond, and I think a few more. There’s also a Red Lobster and Olive Garden and a Long Horn Steakhouse?. The other side now has a Bank of America (with drive thru), Shop Rite, Buffalo Wild Wings, Burlington Coat, Raymand Furniture, Game Stop, Aldi, Petco, Smashed Burgers, JC Penny, GNC, DSW, Nordstrom Rack, Apple Bee’s, and a bunch more. TONS of Parking. It’s busy though during Peak Hours. I never have a problem finding a spot. It may be a little further from the store but you can always find a spot.

Brooklyn, stand up! So proud to see the extension of this mall in Brooklyn. Finally we don’t have to drive out of the borough for certain stores. This mall now has stores that you will probably find in Long Island or Queens. The parking situation I admit could be crazy but I tend to come during off peak times so I don’t deal with the parking drama that the other Unilocalers have mentioned. You can always find a goodie at my personal favorite, Nordstrom Rack, shoes at DSW, bargains at TJ Maxx, home goods at Pier One and Raymour and Flanigan, groceries at ShopRite and dozens of other stores that should please every shopper. At the end of shopping you can now go to Applebee’s if you do not feel like driving to the other side of the mall to eat at the Olive Garden or Red Lobster. I applaud my borough for adding these stores on this side of Brooklyn!

I definitely love the upgrade of the mall. Gave it a lot of class. Its not as ghetto as it could be. Its huge!!! Touch screen maps. .taxi stands! For a quick second u forget ur in east new York

Loving the new expansion at gate way mall, always going to atlanta to shop at aldi’s for cheap can food to pack my barrels now it’s in Brooklyn same prices can’t beat that at all

It’s a mall with stores and restaurants. They are expanding right now to bring in a Shop Rite and a furniture store among other things.
The speed bumps and stop signs are on the wrong place, they aren’t at the correct distance from the crosswalks.
